Reply from KDP re: Permafree

So I asked KDP if they could change the price of my novel to free and this is the reply I got

Quote

Hello Steven,

Our price for your title, Glimpse is now $0.00. You can confirm the price here:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CA3JQYG

Which is great, except when I followed the link the price is as it's always been. It's not free. Anyone have experience with this? Is it just a matter of waiting for prices to change or something?

Now I'm totally confused, b/c I just clicked it again and it's still not free for me... weird. Perhaps something to do with me being in Canada?  ETA: hmmm, not if Rue sees it as free too.....

You're in Canada, so you automatically see the .ca price, even if you type in .com. Happens to my perma-free, too.

It's likely that your browser is loading a cached version of the page. CTRL+F5 to refresh or clear your cache settings should do it.

ETA: just checked the .ca and it shows $2.99 so yeah, never mind.

Did it just take a bit of time? I see yours as free now. I just don't want to do any promoting until it's across the board free.

I was really confused when I set mine to perma-free and it still showed with a price when I looked myself. But the customer service guy assured me that it was free on .com, and that me being in Canada was the issue. And that day I started getting free downloads, which is the green line on your KDP report graph, so I guess he was right.

Just did the same with mine two days ago and used the "Make it Free" link today. No answer yet and still showing $.99 at .com.

Can I ask how long it took you to get that email from KDP, Steve?

    6 hours.

I emailed the KDP support email address and just asked (Very politely) if they could please consider matching the price. I heard that Apple was the key to getting the match, so I linked to Apple, Kobo, and Google.

I also asked people to use the report link (which I did for your book btw) so I don't know which was more effective.

I have the .com site set as my default site for ebooks, plus I've got a US shipping address, so Amazon basically views me as a US customer. So I can see it's free on the .com site, but no price on the .ca site (tells me I need to go to the .com site).

    Hope that helps!

Hmmm. I did the same and linked to B&N, Kobo, and Apple, but so far nothing. May have to poke them again but I'm tempted to give them another day first. Thanks for the report!

For what it's worth it is 1.90 on amazon UK at the moment.
Thought it can take a day or two for perma fees to get to all the stores.

Heard back from KDP again. They said it takes 3-5 days to propagate the new price to all the amazon sites, but that .com is first, and is free now. They've been quick responders, so that's nice. Glad it happened so fast

No, not in select, just making it free across the board. I want to set my book for free through the holiday season. Kind of a experiment...
