Check this out: SelfPubNinja.com

We know self-published authors well.  It's a lot of DIYers, trailblazers, and loners.  When we saw what Magic did a couple days ago (Google it if unfamiliar), we wanted to put together a publishing-specific version that draws on some of what we're already doing for our customers and partner organizations now anyway.  We've lent a hand to many different groups and people already today since launching this morning.

Feel free to give it a try!  24/7!

Thanks!

Doing reviews takes away staff time from our core business, thus it's not going to be cheap.  If you want a $20 review, get your friend or family member to do it!

    Aw, shucks...

Every self-published author needs and wants reviews, and we do provide them for people we work with, but we do take them quite seriously and require whoever (on our staff) leaves a review to read a sufficient amount of the text (if not the entire thing) prior to leaving one.  Also, honesty is paramount...no softball reviews.  Thus the cost.

Reviews are not the main thrust of this service, but since everyone seems to ask for them, we figured we'd throw that example in there.  Not gonna be for everybody.

Someone on our end will be back on here tomorrow to see what entertaining responses have been posted :)  (Or you could just text us :) )

Absolutely people who text this number should have payment ready.  We're not working for free.  This is in addition to everything else we have going on that we're throwing this out there as an experiment of sorts.

No need to hate.  Just checked out your books, they look interesting.  Keep up the good work.

Oh, chill out with your exclamation points and your talk of 20 dollar family member reviews. If you can get someone to part with the cash, more power to you.

No need to focus on reviews specifically.  We just sent out two sets of edits and one Kindle / iBook cover set for somebody...at 2 am Eastern time.  And all three groups were waiting!  There's an interesting angle to the 24/7 part of this, and extremely rapid turnarounds, but it's mainly to help authors conveniently source needs.  Have had some educators show up earlier today and text us with some specific requests, but mainly authors.

We'll see what tomorrow brings as we continue this experiment.

Maybe someone with more experience can answer this, as I'm new to the boards and self-publishing, but I was under the impression that paying for reviews was against Amazon's Terms of Service and could get your account banned. Am I misunderstanding something?

How has this not been answered?

Why is it you think paying for reviews would get a user banned, when Amazon itself has likely the most notorious pay-for-reviews scheme ever conceived (the "Verified" reviewer)?

It may or may not be a EULA violation.  The buyer accepts the risk for this.  Amazon (like all companies) changes their terms all the time and without notice.

As for us, we'll write you a review, but it will indeed be a review, not a rubber stamp.  If you think there's something about this that's unethical, we'd disagree, but that's up to you.  Maybe you're lucky enough to find people to give you quality reviews of your work for free.

Paid reviews from professional entities should go in the editorial reviews section, not the customer review section.

Lucas, paying for a customer review is against Amazon's Terms of Service, absolutely.

I wanted to wait until my mortgage was finalized to post. I now have enough cash to pay you guys for 10 reviews!

Where do I sign up? Also, do you have any bridges for sale?

    Hey, thanks for the advice!

I'll get a friend or family member to do the review.
And some readers who buy the book and do the review for free.

    Great tip! Any more?

He said he was new to the boards and was asking a question. As a supposed "business" you might want to drop the snark. You're coming off like an annoying scam artist now.

I know, right? I was just thinking we hadn't had a snarky, pay me money thread in a long time, and look! Here one is!

Just as I start my low-carb resolution, and have no popcorn in the house. Dang it. :( I guess a breakfast burrito will have to do.

Paid reviews from professional entities should go in the editorial reviews section, not the customer review section.

That's were they should go, but I'll bet these go in a customer reviews, because, well, they did buy the book, didn't they? :P

So $750 is the going rate for a review?

Tell you what, just because we're friends, I'll write you one for only $675. That's a ten percent discount!

(seriously though, is this a joke?)
