Hypothetically...hookers as deductions

IF you write erotica, and this was on a trip to somewhere where prostitution was legal, it would be an expense and tax deducatable in US?

I'm not a lawyer, but I seriously doubt it. I'd bet that loophole would have been closed a long time ago.

Well, this was the tax advice from one article for writers\; "If you like sex, deduct the cost of sex toys, enhancement drugs, porn, trips to Bangkok or Nevada, hookers or gigolosand write about them"

What happens when you are flagged for tax audit? You need to take the hooker as proof?

I lived in Hong Kong for a while years ago and I knew a Thai woman who was an accountant for a German-Thai JV.

She told me that she had to create accounts and payments for not only bribes to officials to get things done, but also "entertainment" accounts which of course included fully paid trips to Patpong and Nana Plaza.

A German auditing company came to Hong Kong to try and figure out all these grey area payments and went ballistic when she told them what they were for.

The point is - yeah, it goes on. And it goes on a lot.

I checked with the Secret Service. They said it would be okay.

    LOL :)
    Take care,

I think that would go over about as well as asking for a tax deduction for crystal meth because you're Vince Gilligan.
