Rie, The onions and garlic are not a requirement. Try it without--add basil, thyme, a little rosemary...should still be good. Can you eat chives? I suspect not, but they would be good, too.

    Oh...I'm a lumberjack and I'm o-kay...

Here's another of my favorite recipes--rice pudding (Without disgusting raisins! Ugh!)

five cups milk (2% works fine)
    seven T white rice
    1 tsp vanilla
    3/4 cup sugar

Place in 325 oven until rice is cooked and milk is thickened wonderfully. There will be a nice, light brown layer on top.
Uh, oh. Now I want one!

So what's a good elvish recipe that Gaelen might make?

WHEW!!   WOW!!   AMAZING!!  Oh Crap what next???

Okay so I really don't know how I feel.

I've not been on a journey such as this since I ventured forth with the likes of Garion or Sparhawk.  An epic journey to say the least!
Archer, M'Lady, I owe you a great debt of gratitude for taking me along on this journey.
I am somewhat sad to see it come to an end a stopping point.  Leaves me a bit bewildered on where to go next.  I suppose I'll take a wee little break and then decide my next journey but I'm doubtful that I'll find one very soon to rival the one I just finished.  THANK YOU Archer!!

Hi, Winter! I can totally relate to your being tired. Hope you can join us today.
(I had no idea I'd be so hassled while on Sabbatical!) When Jeff-o is gone, it's hard to get everything done and get enough sleep.

    An Elvish recipe? Gaelen?
Hmmm...let's just say that Nelwyn might be a better choice. No lembas in Alterra, but Nelwyn can make a killer flatbread featuring delicious seeds and nuts, with a little dried fruit (and a touch of honey). It will definitely stick to your ribs. She adds just enough butter to make it go down EASY!

Now, Gaelen can cook outdoors. She has an innate sense of how to roast 'critters on a spit' (she's probably tried most of them, including Tuathan squirrel-rats). A few wild herbs, some tubers roasted in the coals, and a little wine (chilled in a running stream)...with a side of Nelwyn's flatbread. Hoo, boy! Sounds great after a tough day in the rain.

Nelwyn makes wonderful soup, too. The water in Alterra (depending on the source, naturally) is very clean and pure. That makes a big difference. All ingredients are fresh, and Nelwyn's taste is very discerning. Gaelen would comment that her cousin could make soup out of an old boot and it would be delicious.

Ah, Tip, my friend, you are an optimist. I hope you are right.
Okay...now I have to know. Who was your favorite character?

(That question may be answered by anyone else who wants to) :)

Why ALL of them of course!!

Hmmm, how to word this without spoiling anything....
Actually my favorite character was Gaelen/Gorgon post ring -- the "blending" was magnificent.

Think I have to agree with Tip10 on that one - and I still want to know what Gorgon chose in the end!

Ah, k, if only I knew! Alas, the only one who can know of that choice is the one who makes it.
Starting work on the next book...today is a writing day. I'll check in later. Must go an explore the further complexities of the Outcaste's legal code. It's fun...trust me!

Y'know, when I consider the question, I go back and forth. I tend to be an optimist, but it's a tough choice for someone who has been 'comfortable' with the opposite choice for so much of his life. Pride is a very difficult thing to forsake.

The point of posing the question at the end of the book is that a. no one can really know the answer until the choice is before him, and b. every reader will have a different opinion, based on his/her own outlook and prior experiences. I don't answer the question because I can't. :)
    Does that make sense?

    Done study-reading for today!

I now listen to The Seventh Scroll. I love Wilbur Smith! Truly recommend his Egypt-series! And I read Gone With the Wind for march reading game. The reading game is so fun! :D

Looking forward to dwell with elves when we get the books Archer :D I could read them now when I finish Gone With the Wind, but I want to do the reading together with my sister, then we can discuss it while we read. Might have to wait a little though. Don't know if she has reading projects on her shool now. Well, we will get to it, I look so forward to being able to discuss the elves with you guys :D Do you know when they will get here arch? Are they sent? Sorry, I don't mean to nag on you ;)

Okay, feel really stupid here, but the Boys wanna have fun song has really stucked in my head, just the boys are switched with elves and I'm singing :P

Makes perfect sense, archer.  I just wasn't sure whether that was a teaser for a future book; sometimes that kind of question at the end of a book implies the author might answer it later.  I can just let my imagination go with it now.

Here's wishing you a writing day where the creative juices flow freely!

Don't look Brew -- but even if you did i do not believe that they will actually spoil anything -- might make you go huh? but I don't think they really give anything away.  We're just trying to be extra careful....

    A couple of thoughts here,

    1.  If you run out of ElfHunter books to read, you couldn't do better than to read the Ryel Saga consisting of Wysard and Lord Brother by our own Carolyn Kephart.  (I too love Wilbur Smith) (Sorry archer to cross-over authors here (please forgive).

    2.  While I, of course, love Gaelen I found myself becoming very attached to Fima. (maybe I resemble a dwarf - actually more like a troll).

3   I am being a pain......but......when will Outcaste be generally available?

seeing that I made a reference a few posts ago about Terry Brooks' elves, it is only fitting that I should mention that the Alterran Elves are much friendlier than Raymond Feists Midkemian elves (dark elves too).

    Just sayin.....

    Geoff:
How true! I can also recommend the Ryel saga. CK and I are friends, too. We're happy that you love us both.  :)

You're not being a pain, but the answer is...I don't know when Outcaste will be available. I don't want to specify and then have to contradict myself. The good news is that I'm already working on the next one, so the longer we wait for Outcaste, the less time between installments.

Winter: You should have your books in 5-10 days. I reckon the Book club will have just about started then! You and your sister should be able to join right in.  :)

OKAY, OKAY...so no more spoilers. Wouldn't want to tempt you!

Geoff and Archer, your kind words made my day. Thank you so much!

For readers who may be interested in giving me a try, I recommend the complete one-volume Ryel Saga, which features many restored passages that had fallen to the cutting-room floor back in the duology's paper days. The Kindle duology is basically the same edition as the paper version, save for some minor corrections. Moreover, The Ryel Saga is only 99 cents for the month of March.

Archer and I write very different fantasy, but it all comes from the same place: the heart. :)

    Grateful good wishes,

    CK

Edited to note that I uploaded a new version (minor tweaks) last night and it hasn't been posted yet, but should go live in a day or so. I'm not clear on the procedure since my Kindle 2 is only a week old, but isn't it possible for you to re-upload the new version for free?
