My Atlantic City Boardwalk Water Ice Shop Opened Friday
« on: June 12, 2016, 07:20:09 am »
We opened our Polish Water Ice Shop on the Atlantic City Boardwalk two days ago. This has been my life since January. When we started, this was a gnarly t-shirt shop. It's been crazy, but I've definitely met a lot of future characters along the way...

Based on googling, it sounds like Italian Ice -- aka sno cones, slurpees, and Hawaiian shave ice.

But I'm sure Dave's version is much better than any of them. ;)

It's pretty popular up here in Jersey.  I'd never heard of it when I was growing up in Maryland...

Well, yeah, I could have Google'd it, but I thought I'd, you know, engage in conversation.

Yeah, they're pretty common here in NJ. This is the one that constantly tempts me by the train station:

Yeah . . . that was a new one on me as well. . . . . sounds at once redundant and oxymoronic. :P

I've sometimes even heard "Italian water ice" just to cover all bases.

In Germany we called things Wasser Eis. Water ice, like the ones on the stick that are made of water and sugar and flavor or whatever was in them. No fat, not made with milk.
Or the ones you squeeze out of a tube. Mostly though we ate the ones on the stick.

    Now I want some. Hmpf

Congrats Dave. May your business be awesome this summer and beyond. Sounds yummy.

Dolomiti was one of my favorite, they still have them it seems

Even the ice chest at my tiny tiny village at the local public house had that one in stock. yum.

    Yep -- on a stick they're Popsicles.

Otter Pops were the frozen juice in the push up plastic stick pouch -- but that was a brand name and there were a lot of generic versions as well.

Thanks, Betsy.  It's going pretty well.  The further we get into summer, the busier we are.  It's rather exhausting, though.  Hopefully we'll be loading up on more employees soon.

Here is a picture from last night...

Where on the boardwalk, I live in Egg Harbor Township.  I am fifteen minutes away from AC.  Let me know where you are.  My favorite flavor is lemon.

Oops, sorry Genie, I guess I haven't been around here much.  We are at Texas Avenue, halfway between Tropicana and Boardwalk Hall.

About that lemon -- we learned that we need to always have it!

Water Ice? Is that an East Coast thing? I've never heard of that out in California. We have popsicles, yeah, but not water ice. Anyway, sounds good. It was 101 degrees here yesterday. I would've gladly jumped into a tub full of water ices.

I never heard of it even growing up in nearby Maryland (I'm sure it's bigger there now).  But don't go by me.  I'm such a non-foodie that I never knew what a bagel was until I got to college...

Aha! I knew college was worthwhile! I wasn't sure until now. I hope you learned about the blessed combination of cream cheese, lox and bagel.
