Changing from .com.au to .com
« on: June 14, 2016, 04:49:29 pm »
I use the Aussie store to buy and read and I have an author account attached to this as well. However, I was gifted four books that went to the .com store. I returned two for a credit but support said I'll need to swap my account over to use it.

Do I have to use a fake address to do this? I don't want to break anything trying to swap my account over, ten back again, for sake of $6!

There is no problem doing this. I went back to .com a while back because a number of features I wanted were not available for .com.au.

It doesn't cost anything to change. Just go into settings and change the store.

The only downside is every page will remind you that you can now buy from the .com.au store instead. Bit of a pain, but just ignore them.

The main practical difference is you get charged in US$, and when its converted on your Aussie credit card, the bank may be adding a conversion fee. All the same, I think I'm paying less in US$ than A$, since Amazon artificially inflates the A$ price.

I'm not quite sure what you mean.

I originally was with .com, changed to .com.au, then changed back.

There was no effect on what was on my Kindle in any way, and nothing different about "Manage my Kindle" page.

Okay - took the time to check.
When I changed from .au to .com, it looks like all my books were shifted. when I look at Manage your Kindle on .com, it is more up to date than what is showing on .au. Everything on .au seems to be on .com, but my recent purchases are all only .com.

So it appears your list gets migrated, and you need to use a manage your kindle link for the store you now use.
