Let's write a Novel!

Here's a novel idea. It's never been attempted before in the history of the web, as far as I can establish.

Goal: 50K meaningful words. When we finish, KBoards owns the rights and can do whatever they want with it.

Rules: You get to write 1 paragraph and then someone else must continue the story. You can dip in at a later stage, provided at least 10 other people have contributed since your last post.

Paragraph Length: It's entirely up to you.

Chapters: You Decide. If it seems right, start a new one, create a title and write the 1st paragraph.

Word Count: Count your words.  (This site is useful Add it to the previous count and post at the end of your contribution.

YOU could be a part of something that is a world first ...

I think it might be fun!

I'll start ...

Chapter 1 - New Beginnings

In the cold light of day, John realised we was a jerk. He had been told many times before and never believed it, but now he was convinced that it was, in fact, true. He was a complete idiot. He had everything: a fantastic job, a wonderful house, a beautiful wife, heck, he even had the dog. But now, he had lost everything and he could see no possibility of ever putting things right.

Current Word Count: 74

OK - over to you!

It started with good intentions.  As a benevolent side job, Jack assisted the doctors in the only free burn clinic in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Due to 16 straight weeks of drought, there was a spite of fires that started in the mountains, that later found their way to the log cabins in the small touristy villages along the mountainside.  There was an unusual number of burn victims that were brought to the clinic on the 4th of July that year.  And Jack was there the whole weekend to help out as much as he could.  He was a medical equipment representative by trade, and because of this, he was able to build an extensive network of surgeons.  At the clinic, he was assigned to help the burn victims get scheduled for follow up treatment and surgery in hospitals as far as Phoenix or Scottsdale.  Mrs. de la Torre was one of those victims.

    Current word count = 74 + 151 = 225

Mrs. de la Torre had been sleeping, alone in a cabin by an arroyo, when a fire swept through the brush and caught the laundry she had left hanging on the porch rail. The tinder-dry wood had fed the flames so fast that she barely had time to escape with her life, let alone her possessions. She didn't have much with her - a few clothes, her dead husband's coat, her laptop - but everything was gone. Except the strange map her husband had drawn just before he died.
