I posted that BookBub doesn't take into account letters earned on multi-author box sets. I'd heard it from friends who'd earned letters on individual titles, but decided I should find out for sure and appologize if I'd accidentally spread hearsay.

Here is the complete email exchange:

A little bird told me that you no longer list USA Today / NYT letters if they're received from multi-author box sets.

Is that true?

Hi Carolynn,

Thanks for reaching out! That is indeed correct.unfortunately, its our editorial policy to only include individual bestseller statuses in our blurbs.

I do want to quickly note that, if it says "New York Times Bestseller" on the featured book cover, our readers will be able to see that in the email, so theyll still be aware!

If you have further questions about this, just let me know.

Best,

So if you change your covers it might help your BookBub, however it probably won't help you get the BookBub ad, and it won't be brought to readers' attention in the blurb.

Thanks for verifying that. It probably doesn't matter to some people, but I appreciate knowing about it.

I think that is a good distinction to know, especially if you were going to work really hard at getting on a list with the idea that it would help you with Bookbub.

Thanks for checking that. I'd heard it as well from multiple reputable people but it's good to have it right from the source.

That's perfect, thank you! The only reason I could think of to try for the designation would be for BookBub consideration. Now I know I never have to try.

I'm tempted to put "A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST OVERSIGHT!" on my next cover.

Interesting. I wonder if they plan to hand check every single person who gets a Bookbub with a "USA Today" or "NYT" bestseller tag associated with the book? It seems like a lot of work for what ultimately doesn't matter that much (since as they note, it'll be right there on the cover anyway).

No it's not "a lot of work". It takes less than 10 seconds to type a person's name into the search box on the USA Today website and see what title they made the list with. It would take longer to check reviews and averages of a title on Amazon.

"Not listing" and "not accepting" are two very different things.

Yep, they do this. I know because I have my NYT letters from a boxed set and they used to list it in my BB blurbs and now they do not.

Just put "Time Magazine's Person of the Year 2006" and you're golden.
