May Ku payout .0043?
« on: June 15, 2017, 09:44:00 am »
Maybe I'm calculating incorrectly, but May KU payouts are posted and I'm seeing the U.S. store at $0.00433.  :o >:(

Second lowest payout since KU2.0 went live.  The lowest was 0.04115 in January 2016.

I have so far experienced no regrets at pulling all my novels from KU and going wide.

Is there a historical graph anywhere about Amazon's infusions into the Global Fund? Nagging my mind is the memory that their infusions keep increasing.

It is unsustainable from a business standpoint, and Amazon ain't no dummies.

I saw that, too. My revenue increased after I left KU. Far more than made up for the loss.

Ironically enough, their new reporting system made that crystal clear to me. KU gutted sales, no question about it.  Whether prawnie me should leave KU is another question altogether though.

My current 90 day cycle for most of my books end this month. I may kick around the issue of going wide. KU may not be offering me enough incentive and sales suck anyhow.
Does anyone know if Amazon ads require Select enrollment?

No, it's not required. The two Amazon ads I have running are both for books that are not in Select.

    Indeed
Not without precedent though. It has dipped and risen before.

    They do not

It does require publishing through KDP (but doesn't require enrollment in KU)--here's the text:

To get started, you'll need to create an Amazon Marketing Services account. To be eligible for promotions, your book must:

    Be available on Amazon.com
Be an eBook published with KDP
    Be written in English
Meet the Kindle Author Creative Acceptance Policies for book ads

Upshot: you can't use an aggregator like Pronoun and use AMS

Okay, good to know. Still haven't decided about going wide but I like to review the decision every 90 days anyway.

Six books might not be enough to go wide. A bigger backlist helps as you can selectively promote.

I don't know, I suppose it's still possible with six books. A loss leader with references to your other books? Dicey.

You might want to stay in KU and I'm an anti-KU fanatic. You just can't argue with KU visibility.

I'm wide again for all my books in English. KU made me a bunch of money for a while, but the downsides now equal the upsides, and all things being equal, I'd rather be wide, for risk management and diversification.

But the wisdom is still, if you only have a handful of books, you will probably still make more on KU than going wide.  Right?

The contrarian argument here is that if you're patient and wait for the mass exodus out of KU, you'll get a bigger share of the pot that's left. Perhaps Amazon will go through a period where they have to up the amounts again just to attract exclusive content back.

And believe me, Bezos sees us all as content providers, and nothing more.

Bah, that's $600 I just kissed goodbye. I am not loving this trend, but it's not enough to pull me out while I only have one series, and it's an UF series. Come January, I may re-evaluate when I have four series running.
