Which cover do you like better?
« on: July 19, 2017, 12:28:36 am »
I'm working on redesigning all of my covers. Some are being redone professionally, while I'm trying my hand at a few others. Both of these were created by me. Just so you can get an idea about the content of the book; Cruel Intentions (Les Dangerous Liasons) with lots of smut 😝

I prefer the first one, but only because the second won't show up very well in a thumbnail. At least I don't think it will. I do think your author name on the first one needs to be heavier because right now it is too faint.

The author name is definitely getting changed on the first one, but I wanted to test out the new cover before I do that because my GIMP file is corrupted and to do so, I'll have to redo the cover. Another issue is that this is a 4 or 5 book series, and it's hard to carry the style of the first book over to the rest of the series. As a whole, I like the original design better myself but I'm trying to think what's best for the series.

Additionally, I've tried for a BookBub 12 times with this book and rejected every time except for a U.K. only ad once. The book has a 4.7 rating with 36 reviews. While I know that's not a lot of reviews, I'm trying to figure out why the ad didn't do well in the U.K. It's either the cover or the blurb, so I'm just trying to test a few things out.

    I prefer the first one.

The second cover makes me squint - and if you're squinting during sex you are most likely doing it wrong!

I vote for the second cover if you can tone down that pink.  Otherwise, I'm worried it will wash out in thumbnail size.

The first one - as long as they don't penalise you for the large cleavage...

I think the first one is sexier, and it definitely gets the topic across. I do however agree that you would want to change the author name.

I kind of agree with everyone. Both are good in there own way. As is, I'd go fir one with more bolded author name. However, number two is fabulous, just TOO pick. It makes it look trashy, instead of sexy, in my opinion. I do like the contrast of the pink background and white title, especially the font, but could you just have the back wall be pink, leave the couple in grey scale and the title in white?

That might be just pink and contrast-y enough and in my head it looks awesome.

*apologies in advance for typos/grammar/errors, I have a traumatised puppy sleeping on my good hand. Its cute but unprofessional and impractical.

The pink is so blinding on cover 2, it's hard to see how that one would compare with 1 if it had normal coloration. Both have merits.

I'm jumping on the #1 bandwagon.  As noted, the second one is waaaaay too pink.  Plus, good luck getting an AMS or FB ad with that second pic.   ;)

The first is better to me. Stronger concept and subject matter, and the obscene amount of pink in the second one kills it.

That's interesting that you say that. The current book is ineligible for Amazon Ads and I've had week-long fights with Facebook over ads because the woman's boobs are so prominent. It's one of the reasons I'm looking to change covers. Of all of my books, only one is eligible for Amazon Ads. I'm not sure that I'm going to find a happy medium when it comes to Amazon ads due to genre.

Well cover 2 looks more racy than cover 1.

Another vote for the first one.  Visually it has more depth and interest than the flat pink one.  Agree that the author name is too delicate to read.
