Can I Just Say That I Freaking Love Bookfunnel
« on: July 26, 2017, 10:28:51 am »
Just sent out a request for ARC readers for Gryphon. In the past, this process has involved emails back and forth asking what file type they want and making sure that they didn't have any problems with the download. Now, one email, "Here's the Bookfunnel link."

Done!

Awesome sauce.

I haven't learned yet how to master Bookfunnel. Instafreebie is easier for me.

A question, how far in advance do you recommend sending out ARCs?
    I read, therefore I am.

A question, how far in advance do you recommend sending out ARCs?

I use the two services for completely different tasks. I have an Instafreebie account for getting new email list subscribers. I have a Bookfunnel account to distribute free copies of my book to people, both new subscribers and ARC readers.

I just sent out requests to my list today for a release date of 8/17. That's probably pushing it a little bit, but I made my schedule a little too tight this time. Ideally, I'd love to give them a month, definitely no less than a couple of weeks. I also make the paperback version of the book available early so they can leave reviews on that page. Once the ebook goes live, I send a request to Amazon to combine the two, and viola, all the reviews are instantly transferred to the ebook page.

BTW, we exchanged PMs a while back and I totally dropped the ball. I think you were asking me when I'd like to do an author interview, and I hadn't determined my release date yet. If spots are still available, around 8/17 would be fantastic.

    Thanks.

    Brian

I do the same thing!  It's fantastic and my ARC team loves it for the pure convenience. Haven't had any issues (except that one time I copied and pasted the Bookfunnel link with an extra space in it somehow and it didn't work...).  Love me some Bookfunnel!

Absolutely. It and Vellum are the two things I recommend without hesitation to anyone who asks.

I like BookFunnel a lot, too. They were falling behind there for awhile but with the new landing pages and the help with organizing promos, I think they are back in a great place. Definitely complementary to InstaFreebie. I use them both.

Me too! It was recommended to me by another author, NR Hairston. She also recommended InstaFreebie which I had and dropped because my initial experience was lackluster. Now, I'm love them both! I hope to be able to pay her advice forward.

Hi, Julian! Yeah, I use both instafreebie and bookfunnel, but for different things.

Which Instafreebie features do you like the most?

    I love the feedback here.

Is Bookfunnel equally effective for both FICTION and NON-FICTION/SELF-DISCOVERY/PERSONAL SPIRITUALITY books?

Bookfunnel's best feature is that they hold the hand of non-technical people. Their help is good.

Before I used them, about 1/50 people emailed me, and I had to provide tech support. Bookfunnel has reduced that to 1/1,000. Of course, I made those numbers up, but it's about right. I've only had one person ask for help, and even when I emailed him the MOBI, he had trouble.

I "preload" the help info in my email. Here's an email to winners of a LibraryThing giveaway (Ignore the meters):

What exactly is bookfunnel and how does it work?

Let's say you want to distribute ARCs or a free story to your mailing list. Without Bookfunnel, I guarantee you'll eventually encounter an email exchange that goes something like this:

You: Anyone what this free story?

    Them: Sure.

    You: What format?

    Them: Mobi please.

    You: Great. It's attached.

    Them: Uh, it won't open.

You: Maybe the file is jacked up. I did a new conversion. Try this attached one.

    Them: Nope. Still won't open.

You: You did copy it over to your Kindle App, right?

Them: I have to copy it over to the Kindle? How?

You: Okay. Here's what you have to do ... (followed by step by step instructions)

    Them: Nope. Still didn't work.

You: How about I email it directly to your Kindle? Please send me your Kindle's email address.

Them: My Kindle has an email address!?!

You: Open your Kindle App, go to settings, and ...

Them: Uh ... I did all that and couldn't find any address.

You: Sorry, can't respond right now. I'm at the hospital getting my head examined. Concussion.

    Them: What happened?

You: Banged my head against the wall too hard.

Bookfunnel takes your reader through an easy step by step process that downloads the file you uploaded (in some combination of epub, mobi, and pdf) and gets it onto their Kindle. So instead of the exchange above, you have something that looks like this:

You: Anyone what this free story?

    Them: Sure.

You: Here's the Bookfunnel download link.

    Done.

Saves a ton of money in emergency room visits.

hahahah thank you BWFoster that makes alot of sense. Can you like link it to your website or something to give free copies of the beginning of your book to get people into it? Is that the whole concept? lol
