Swagbucks....
« on: January 15, 2009, 08:32:01 am »
I searched the boards for this, but didn't see anything.  Has anyone heard of SwagBucks?  It's a search engine, powered by Google and Ask.com, but the best part is that with every search you run, you get a chance to win a SwagBuck.  Or more than one.  There are also codes that appear on the main page that you can use to get free SwagBucks as well.

Okay, so what can you do with SwagBucks?  Well, for 45 SwagBucks, you can get a $5 Amazon Gift Certificate.  After a friend told me this and showed me proof she actually got her first Amazon GC, I signed up.  Less than a week and I'm already at 30.  So close.

Here's a link to sign up - http://swagbucks.com/?cmd=sb-register&rb=288477 (that is a referral link for me, but if you don't like the idea, just go to the site yourself and sign up - it's worth it!).  Today's code is GreenThursday, if you want to get an easy extra SB.  Enjoy!

This may be an easy way to *earn* gift cards, but it proved to also be a very easy way to *earn* spyware!! At least that is what happened to me. My laptop is once again *clean* after dealing with all the garbage swagbucks added to my computer last week. Unless you have very good protection, or don't mind the constant ads popping up and the tracking cookies, I would recommend that you stay away.

I checked it out too, if we sign up under the link you provided you get free swagbucks, although you did suggest going to the site on our own. It takes a lot of searches to get a $5 Amazon gift card. I think I will stick with Google because I know it is safe for my computer. You have to be careful with offers, many of them have some kind of catch or leave you wide open for spyware as Angela stated.

Thanks for the post though, there may be some takers.  :)

Yeah, I wasn't trying to insist that everyone use my referral link - that's why I specifically said that it was a referral link, but you should check it out on your own if you don't want to use my referral link.  You don't know me, so I don't expect you to do anything to benefit me! :)

I have never had any trouble with spyware or any sort of attack on my computer due to SwagBucks, so I'm sorry to hear that happened.  I do have good virus protection, and of course, the site has ads (nothing is actually free) but I've never had any harm come to my computer from it!

I am a member of many online survey panels -- Harris Poll, LightSpeed. Many offer Amazon GC as incentives. I had saved up about 10,000 Harris Poll points (HIpoints) and it was worth $75 in Amazon GCs. It's part of the way I paid for my Kindle. Of course, that took doing about 2 surveys a week (average) for over 6 months but there was nothing I wanted more than the GCs. Of course you can get them more often in smaller denominations but it keeps a constant flow of money in my Amazon account.

I am on a survey site too, I make an average of 50$ a month and an additional 20$ in Amazon Gift cards. That's how I got my first Kindle.  ;D

Now I use it for books and maybe to get K2 down the road. Some sites are great, others not so much. Always check out the TOS first before signing up for any of them.

I use SwagBucks...no problems here. I have two people signed up under me and have made 123 SB from them. So far I've made enough for $20 in Amazon gift cards. It does take time but if you're going to search for something, might as well earn something too :-))

I've been using Swagbucks, too (and I'll give out my referral link too, like the OP did: http://swagbucks.com/?cmd=sb-register&rb=427633 if anyone feels like signing up under me... but no pressure!! :))

It's been a week. I have 9 swagbucks. It's not that hard, I mean - I just installed the Swagbucks search as an option in my browser (firefox). So now if I do a web search, I can choose to do a Swagbucks-sponsored one as opposed to google or one of the others I have in there (I don't even remember what others I have in there) and sometimes I win a swagbuck or two. Eventually I am sure I will get up to 45 and then have an amazon gc available. Woo hoo. I figure what the heck, it's free, and it isn't hurting me or anyone else. A friend's sister really actively promotes Swagbucks and actually gets a lot out of it. There doesn't seem to be a downside, except of course looking kind of foolish when you try to promote it... ;)

LOL...I have to ask if that is a helmet on the cat in your avatar? My daughter likes to "torture" Max, our mini dachshund by putting her knee pad on his head pretending it's a crash helmet. Sadly...he lets her do it  :P

Back on topic...I have enough for another $10 worth of gift cards :-)

OK, FWIW, I am now up to 15 whole swagbucks. So obviously they don't add up THAT fast, but still, eventually I will be able to get a $5 amazon GC which is better than getting nothing.

Don't give up...you just have to remember to use them as your search engine. Also, when you do bring up a search page, turning to the next page will sometimes fetch you a SB. Referrals help too. :)

I've been using it for about 2 weeks and have 30 swagbucks. I've been happy with it! Installing the toolbar really helps. I also installed it on the work break computer. It doesn't take over the toolbar, it just adds it to the drop down menu so you can choose from it. Having it on the toolbar means by husband will use it, too.

It's fun when you get a buck. And I haven't noticed any difference in how my computer is running (no additional pop ups, etc. ). thanks for sharing with us!

Do you know about metroresearchservices.com ?  It's not online, Metro Research does "live" focus groups in NoVa....  they call me every couple of months, and if I fit the needed demographic it's an easy (and usually fun, too!) way to make a little extra money.  It's ranged from two hours ($50, as I recall) to all day ($200), usually with a snack or a meal included.  Muffins, hand lotion, radio stations, and once a mock trial, and a few others.
