"Most Read" kindle books, per Amazon

I guess I'm an outlier -- I've not read any of them.

And, actually, though the headline says "Most Read", the first paragraph says "best selling". Which, as we all know, ain't necessarily the same thing! :o ;)

I started reading "Hunger Games" but gave up on it fairly quickly. Didn't even start any of the others.

It seems I never like or want to read what the rest of the world "hungers" after.

Maybe we should start a top 98 (just to be different) outliers list.

Me too - it's the same as the Goodreads poll, I haven't read 99% of those either. I don't think I read really obscure stuff, but perhaps just not the most popular genres.

I think it's also true that people buy particular books because it's the "in" thing to do, like the 50 Shades series. But how many of those books are read, and how many of them do people actually like? As you say buying is not reading, or liking.

I was surprised to see I've read one in each category, The Help and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.  Both of which I read because I picked them up on Kindle for my mom as they weren't available in e-book form from the library in time for her book club. I actually enjoyed them both.

I've read Hunger Games (curiosity) and The Help (picked it up in library's "New" section, read the first page and was hooked, so didn't read it on Kindle). My high percentage ;) of those reads surprises me as I'm usually off marching to a different drummer in my reading as in most things.

This is an AWESOME idea! A KBoards top 98 -- or 67, or 43, or 26 . . . whatever makes the most sense.  Let me chat with Betsy and get back to y'all! If anyone has ideas on how to organize/track/control such a list, feel free to send a PM!

I can see those books as being top ten read fiction. I've read 9 of them. I never got around to reading the 3rd Fifty Shades installment and probably never will.

I've only read Unbroken from the non-fiction list. I'd like to read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, but haven't gotten around to it... it's been on my tbr list for the past 7 years.

Hah, that is me. I read the first 2 and just never felt the need to continue on. I felt closure at the 2nd, other than the twirling mustache villain still somewhere, I think. I can't recall exactly, its been a while.

Those two 50's are the only books I read from the list. I don't read non fiction at all so nothing there obviously. I also don't read YA so never had any urge to read the hunger games.

I did try to read Gone Girl and hated it. It was a DNF for me. I didn't get too far.

With access to the web site's database (or data files?), I could probably get some interesting stats from the Reading Page info. :)

that's a thought, Nog -- but not everyone has a reading page. We're discussing it in the smoke-filled rooms. :D

The only one I've read was Wild by Cheryl Strayed, which I enjoyed very much. It mainly appealed to me because I've always wanted to hike that trail.

Haven't read any on the list.

I would have thought that the classics would appear on the 'most read' list - even if you were made to read it at school  :P

I'm guessing that Amazon is going by their own sales and KU reads.

Right. And probably only since 10 years ago when the kindle was first released.
