Sue Grafton R.I.P.
« on: December 29, 2017, 02:37:14 pm »
Sue's daughter Jamie is reporting within the last few hours that her mother has passed away at the age of 77 after battling cancer cancer for several years.

I'm going to miss her work. She's one of the very few authors that I used to buy the hardcover when it first hit the shelf.  :'(

I just saw this.  So sad.  A friend of mine has read all of her books.  I stopped about six or eight into the series...may have to try them again.

I guess the series was done through "X" from what my friend said...

Sue Grafton, the best-selling mystery writer who penned 25 novels with alphabet-based titles, starting with "A Is for Alibi" and ending with "Y Is for Yesterday," has died after a bout with cancer, her daughter, Jamie Clark, said Friday in a social media post.

    Sad. Seventy-seven just isn't enough years.  :(

Sad to hear. She was a very good writer, and yes, 77 is too young. Ironically, another giant of the PI genre, Robert B Parker, died at 77 also.

I'm very sad.  Fans have been talking about what she would start after "Z" was done, I do hope it was finished or well under way.  I have and have read everything from A-Y since "A is for Alibi" was published in 1982.

I did not know she had been battling cancer.  I wonder if it started when she was writing "W" as that is the only book of the series I felt was not written by her (or at least in a really different voice). Condolences to her family and fans. :(

I keep meaning to start that series as I always see it all over my pages. So sorry for her family and friends.

    Cancer sucks.  :(

Goodness, how unexpected. I had no idea she'd been so ill.

Kinsey Millhone has always been one of my favorite female sleuths. I did stop reading the series after a while. This would be a good time to pick it up again.

    What a legacy Grafton left.

It's poignant that the title of "Z"was supposed to be "Zero" and was never written. Therefore, a zero to punctuate the completion of the series.

Dang, that's sad to me.  I had a lot of respect for her.  She was a quality writer and a good person.

This is trite, but I'm sorry she never made it to "Z."

So no ghost writer will finish the series, eh?

Many of you also know that she was adamant that her books would never be turned into movies or TV shows, and in that same vein, she would never allow a ghost writer to write in her name, her daughter wrote. Because of all of those things, and out of the deep abiding love and respect for our dear sweet Sue, as far as we in the family are concerned, the alphabet now ends at Y. - https://www.twincities.com/2017/12/29/sue-grafton-writer-of-popular-alphabet-mysteries-dies-before-finishing-z/

Very different than the estate of, say, Michael Crichton which keeps finding new manuscripts on his computer. :/

I write, I teach, I drink coffee. And yes, I have a cat.
