Smashwords - weird metadata error
« on: July 24, 2018, 04:41:54 am »
So I uploaded new editions of my books to Smashwords, and I got a message that they need modification to be entered in their Premium Catalog, but I can't figure out what they want me to do:

" Please format the book title in your Dashboard: Settings to Title Case. This only concerns your Metadata, not your cover image or the interior of your book.

What does this mean?  I can't see anything in the Settings that matches up with that message, so I have no idea what they want me to do.  Can anyone explain it to me (pretend I'm a complete idiot and use words of only one or two syllables, please)?

Maybe you entered the series title in the book title field. So instead of something like "Book Title (Series Title Book 1)," it should be just "Book Title" and the series title should be added through Series Manager.

    I'll try that, thank you!

Assuming that's right, it would have been nice if they, you know, actually SAID THAT in their error message, so I didn't have to be a psychic to figure out what they want me to fix.

    It wasn't in all caps.

I trued taking the series title out of the title, in hopes that will fix the problem.

Smashwords seem to have tightened up recently on this: titles must have initial capitals (so no ALL CAPS or all lower case), no colons (but then they don't have a subtitle field, so they've basically forbidden subtitles)...

I was also bumped...once or twice. The Quick Hot Fix is to use this link to help you properly capitalize your titles: https://capitalizemytitle.com

EDIT: Amazon will let you slide, but D2D and Smashwords...Not so much.
