    Nice launch and informative post!

Congrats. Here's to your book sticking for weeks/months.

I didn't see you mention it in the above post, but one thing that helped you IMO is that you have Book 2 available for pre-order, which demonstrates commitment to the series and actually sells more Book 1, I think.

Thank you very much for posting this. I wish you the best of luck in your books.

I like your strategy and it would be very similar to mine if I had more books written. I'll have to use some of the discount emails sites at the beginning to just get some eyeballs.

Question for you... how much do you interact with your readers? Do they often send you messages of any kind?

Very interesting, thank you and well done!

That's quite a large spend, good luck making it back (and much more).

That's a great post. I would be happy with those numbers too.  You've outlined a nice strategy for those of us who are not on our first books and have a healthy inventory -- but also aren't hitting the bestsellers. THANKS!

Congrats! And I love that these covers show the dresses. As a historical reader, I love when I can see the full costumes and rooms/backgrounds. :)

Thanks for the informative post. Really interesting.  And congrats on your best ever launch!    :)

I was wondering how many of the 45 ARC reviewers ended up posting a review, and did you remind them to review, or did you just leave it up to them to post or not to post.

Quite a few reviews mention that they're ARCs, but I don't keep track. I send a reminder email when the book's live, along the lines of: 'If you've read it and you'd like to leave a review, now you can.' But that's it. If they don't want to review or can't for some reason or (as I've done myself!) take a year to get round to reading the book, so be it.

Ah, I see.  Good to know.  (And thanks for answering.)

     :)

Great info and strategies.  Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm very curious about your comment regarding spending more than you're making in order to position the book for later sales.  How long do you tend to hit your books with advertising in order to do that, and then, how long do you expect them to maintain good sales ranking?  What kind of advertising maintenance do you do in the long run?  Is it mostly PPC ads, or do you use email promos?  How often do you do those kinds of things and what kind of budget do you allot to them?

    Thanks!

Fascinating. Looks like you're maintaining that ~1,500 position in the store at $2.99, which is nice. Also like how you've steadily built over the years, brick-by-brick. That seems to be the most sustainable solution, for those taking notes. I've read almost every one of these launch threads for years, and while the massive rank-topping surges into the Top 200 or Top 500 for a midlist/new author turn heads, they're often ephemeral and have little impact on long-term success. Of course, even the steady path is hardly linear - there will be setbacks and series that don't meet expectations - but it seems to me that sustainably having good, profitable launches is really about methodically building your platform and backlist.

Which isn't exactly news, but it's easy to get sidetracked. I spend most of my time searching for what ends up being fool's gold.

An alternative to $0.99 for the next launch might be hitting the promo sites at $2.99 for Book 1. IIRC, Ram of Book Rank mentioned this year that his clients had been having success launching at $2.99 with promo sites. I found that interesting, because common knowledge suggests that $2.99 is a dead zone for promo sites. Might be worth exploring if the $2.99 price is still serving you well at that point in time. I've been wanting to test this, but I'm still in the mentality of IMMEDIATE FIRE SALE on a new release Book 1. But I'll get around to it, I hope, eventually.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the numbers and congratulations on the successful launch.

    Nick

Such great work! This is a great use of ads and gives me renewed optimism that I should keep working on them with my sci-fi trilogy. Thanks for sharing.
