BookBub ad Catastrophe
« on: October 04, 2019, 01:19:07 pm »
I have an account with BookBub with 10 of my books in my real name. I just wrote my last one with a pen-name. I've been trying to place one of the big ads for the book in BookBub so it runs 15 days before Halloween. I don't know a thing about placing one of those bid ads with the bids and territories, audience and what the three-letter terminology--impressions, click-throughs and all that stuff. That's why I offered $50 to anyone who would place the best possible ad for my book in BB. I had no takers. My agent, my PR director, my publisher, her V.P and other friends have failed miserably on trying to do this for me. Even the massive tutorials I've read did not express this information to me in any precise manner. I must have special circumstances involved in my profile or stats that have somehow skewed the entire process on my site.

It's so simple it is incomprehensible: Buy an ad for a first-time pen-name book. That's it. I'll mess up the ad for sure, like I always do, but I can't even get the book listed for an ad. I'm  positive it was vetted by the BB staff and follows all rules and regs.

This message continues to flood my inbox:
Dear Chris,
Unfortunately we were unable to add Screamcatcher: Web World to your Author Profile. Reasons for this might include:

  • This title was written under a pen name
  • The author name on this book cover does not match the author name on this profile
  • We could not find a reputable source that validated your authorship of this work
  • This book is not an English-language edition
If you think this is an error and you did author this work, please let us know and wed be happy to investigate further.
Best wishes,
 The BookBub Partners Team

The bolded items are true, yet when I start to create an entirely new account (dashboard profile) by clicking on "Get Started" it throws me right into my old partner dashboard account--every time. I see my new listed on that sign-up page, probably because of a blunder my PR director committed. There is no button I can push or have seen to start a new account for this new book, so that I can buy an ad for it. I have an unusually large book give-away with 25 token prizes for a Halloween bash. If I fail with my BB ad campaign, I'll have wasted hundreds of dollars. Right now I'm at the point to start hunting down razor blades and a hangman's noose.
Does anyone have any idea what could have possibly gone wrong with this? I'm a hybrid author and this particular marketing is new to me?
Appreciatively yours,
the idiot.

You need a separate email for each Bookbub author account.

But also, you can advertise any book you want from a Bookbub account if you're talking about the click ads.

8 Pen Names. Genres: Non-fiction, Speculative Fiction, Romance.

I've been to "Help" three times in the past nine days. The only message I received was yesterday "It looks good on this end to me. Have a great day."

I have my new email account and password waiting in the wings.

You need to create a new account with Bookbub for your pen name with the new email address and add the book to your profile. Then you'll be able to run an ad for the new pen name under your new account. I remember reading somewhere on their website that Bookbub requires authors to create new accounts for each of our pen names before we can use their featured deals or ads.

That's what they told me 12 times in emails, only they just now apologized because they realized I'd bought the small click ad and wasn't applying for the big ad where your book has to be vetted, and the expense is in the hundreds. One of the customer service reps sent me a separate email apologizing for giving me the wrong information.  Nice BB glitch goof. Now solved.

Open up a PRIVATE TAB first, then create a pen name account. That will make sure no cookies or info from your other account will be accessed.
