I'd say your typography needs a lot of work. The author name is too small and the title font is very difficult to read. I'd seriously consider replacing that with a standard science fiction-y font.

The title font is difficult to make out, especially the word Rarity. As per previous comment, author font could be larger. Initially, the cover image made me think young adult. Then I read the description and the themes are very heavy. How did the previous cover look?

    I agree.
The previous covers were pretty bad, IMO. The back cover is now used to clarify that it is not YA, but that may not be good enough.

Right. But I think he was saying that your name is too small. Although now I'm not sure because his comment seems to have disappeared entirely.

Exactly this. Also, I think you need more spacing between the letters on the author name.

If you look at the back cover, the header is "A CHILDREN'S STORY FOR ADULTS." As commented by C. Gold above, maybe this should be on the front cover so that folks don't think it is a YA novel. What do you think?

Is the book selling? What do you sell more of? ebook or print? Obviously, your back cover is only relevant if you are selling print. For the ebook, as the others have said, that typography is just all wrong. Your name is too small and the title is illegible. And the font screams "this is not a professional cover." Not the you have to pay for a professional cover, but at least do enough research so you can add appropriate fonts if you are doing it yourself.

Thanks everybody. It sounds like there is a consensus that the font should be changed. I'll ask a friend who is an expert in book cover art if he knows somebody who might be interested in helping out.

In the pantheon of difficult-to-read fonts this one stands head and shoulders above the rest of the junk. Not only is it difficult to read but hideous to look at.

I realize that the horse has already left the barn, but that's not really a font, you know. It's a typeface. Every typeface has numerous fonts, one for each point size in roman, italic, and boldface.

But as Mark Twain commented, a rumor gets around the world before the truth can get its pants on. It's the same with the degradation of our language. There's a difference between discrete and discreet, between founder and flounder, and between career and careen, though the second term is generally used (incorrectly) instead of the first. It's the same with font and typeface.

It really, really helps to have worked in a print shop at some point in your authorial career, especially if you want to publish yourself.

It's an excellent image -- drew me in, aroused my curiosity. I even quite like the title font, makes it a tad more mysterious, warranting a closer look.  But I agree the letters in your author name might be spaced out a bit.

However, I am not typical sci-fi customer, apart from devouring Ira Levin. Not literally!

Upon further analysis, it appears that all of the Facebook potential consumers of my book were reacting to thumbnail. That's something to consider. The image that generates for D2D is nondescript on Twitter, but looks better on FB. Food for thought.

Cool looking title font, but yeah, it's difficult to read. And remember, a lot of potential customers are just going to see a thumbnail (on a Kindle or equivalent device) or the equivalent of a large thumbnail (on a computer).

The photo looks quite cool, though, as does the cover's tone overall.

I'll go against the grain and say that I don't hate the font -- but I'd boost it up about the middle of her back and make it as large as will fit. That would certainly help the legibility.

The new front cover is now on amazon but Lulu seems to be a mess.

Published today, the new front cover for my ebook now appear on sales sites. Lulu says that it just went thru an internal modification of its website and the newest cover may not appear for a file.
