Google Play Book Store - Link for printed book option?
« on: May 19, 2020, 12:49:00 pm »
for Google Play Book store, there is a a "Link for printed book" option when you submit your ebook info.

Has anyone tested out putting your amazon paperback or hardback book link? Does it help your printed book sales?

I just skip the part but was wondering if anyone has tested out that and does it make more print book sales for you?
(On google, it says to skip it and google will automatically put in your third party link for printed books.)

Just wondering. Thank you.

Sure, add the link. It can't hurt.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with Google Books, now unfortunately called Google Play. If you make your book searchable, basically the whole thing can be read online. Does this help sell books? I'm sure it does. Does it make it unnecessary for people actually to BUY the book(s)? I'm sure it does that as well. On balance, I allow my books to be searchable.

This is probably less of an issue for novelists. After all, one isn't going to just go grab an essential page or two from a novel, as one might well do if researching a topic covered in a factual account.

As an example, look at the wonderful original (i.e., edited by his widow, Mary Hemingway) edition of Hemingway's A Moveable Feast: https://books.google.com/books?id=ohpj2Nl9EYQC&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false

It cant hurt to have links to other formats available. Some folks may prefer to preview it online and then have the hard copy.

You don't need to add a link to Amazon or B&N paperbacks. Google will automatically search and find it. That link space is for those who sell books directly from their website. If your paperback is on one of the main publisher sites, no need to add it. It pops in on its own after a week or two.
