Message from KDP about a change in UK Kindle prices
« on: June 26, 2020, 01:42:51 pm »
I got the following message from Amazon regarding the prices of my Kindle books in the UK. Did anyone else get the message? The prices of 3 books were changed.

"We are contacting you about the UK list price for your KDP titles. We discovered a technical issue which caused a change in the list price for some KDP titles on Amazon.co.uk. We ask that you please confirm the UK price for all your KDP titles is what you intend customers to see when they view your detail page."

I got it as well. But I can't check it out because I can't see prices on Amazon UK. They're not visible to US authors unless you've ordered and sent gifts to UK addresses.

I mean, isn't it as easy to going onto Amazon UK and looking at the pricing? I checked out mine, and there is a different price for multiple books that are of the same USD price point. Not sure if that's pertinent.

If your books are at the same price point in the US, they should be consistent in the UK as well.

That's what I was thinking. I'm guessing I run $2.99 USD into a currency converter and then tell Amazon in a reply email to make XYZ books all that British Pound price? I'm not sure what they are normally, to be honest.

Here's how I get in to http://amazon.co.uk/ from US:

UK Author Central > Books tab > click on a book > View on Amazon.co.uk

Here's how I get in to http://amazon.co.uk/ from US:

UK Author Central > Books tab > click on a book > View on Amazon.co.uk

^This should work, I am located in the UK but can certainly view US prices anyway.

However, if you still have trouble, go to a proxy site (Google it) and view your books in the UK store anonymously, through the proxy server.

Amazon.UK just answered and said to log out of my account there and I can see them. I had to search to find the log out button but when I did log out I was able to see prices and they're all over the place. It's going to take some time to figure out how to fix it.

    Decon,

Use a free VPN like Tunnel Bear that will let you see prices in the UK.

I got the same message. It seems this is not the fault of authors but a KDP glitch.  I replied asking how to authenticate our KU prices, and that we couldn't do it without some direction on their part.

I got another email 3 days ago saying my UK payments were being held and I should put in my banking information again.  I have had my account information on the site for years.

My prices look fine, but I suddenly notice they are in pounds, not euros any more. depends on the exchange rate between pounds and euros I guess. I made some equal, the pound & euro are still close in value.

It is difficult to sort out, because they don't specify if my account has the problem and neither currency is familiar to me.

I do the same as I'm also registered on .com. Once you are on a book on .UK if you click on your name all your books come up with the UK prices.

Well, I'm in the UK so yes, it does. If I go to Amazon.com by simply putting it into the address bar, it says 'go away; you're English. You don't belong here' - I have to go via the bookshelf if I want to look at the .com site or any of the others. I use this method to get onto the Australian site because my daughter lives there and I can order stuff to have sent to her.

I corrected the price of one of my books in the UK on June 26, and the price still hasn't been changed.  Amazon sent me a "no reply" email saying the price has been changed. There is no way to contact them.

You might want to check your books again.

I haven't had any such email! I'm based in UK, but I've just checked my emails again (in a panic!) and my Bookshelf - and nothing! Is it because I'm so new? A single-book author? Was it something I said...?  ???

The prices of 3 books were changed.

I think it's because the UK have just cancelled VAT on ebooks, so the actual base price of your books will now be different.

E.G. If your book is listed as 1.99 it used to actually be 1.69+0.30 VAT. But now it is actually 1.99+0.00 VAT.

So Amazon are just alerting you that the base price for our book has changed.

It could be because you've only just published. I've had the email and I'm getting 38 back!

I don't think it has anything to do with the VAT. The prices posted for the books on the Amazon UK website changed. The prices of 3 of my books were changed. I was able to get two of them corrected. I have been unable to get the third book corrected even though it is correct on my bookshelf. Others could be having the same problem as well.
