Look Inside
« on: June 29, 2020, 11:01:44 am »
For the second time since I began publishing two years ago, KDP has placed my entire novel of 471 pages within Look Inside for anyone to read.  This is unacceptable and I am p*ssed!  I have already questioned KDP through their Contact Us on my bookshelf page three times now.  Their reply from the first two contacts was "Your entire book IS NOT being displayed within Look Inside."  WHAT?  I looked again.  Not true.  Still all there.  So, I spent a full year writing a novel and they just put it out there for free?  I am truly incensed.  As I stated, this is not the first time this has happened.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Could you be seeing it all because it's yours?

    Shayne,

    Why would that be?

I believe that KDP has fixed the situation now, but it got me thinking.

Why are paperbacks dealt with so differently than eBooks in Look Inside?   For eBooks, the prospective reader gets to see anywhere from 10% to a little more from page one, yet with paperbacks, the Look Inside is a fragmented mess, offering ranges of pages here and there.  That makes no sense.

For example, after their correction, here are the pages omitted from my paperback in the Look Inside:

    Pages 7-37, 43 and 44, 49-53, 59-68, 74-76, 81-85, 91-92, 98-107, 110-11, and 115-457 are omitted.

That just seems arbitrarily odd.  Why aren't paperbacks handled the same way as the eBooks?  It should be the first 10% to 20% and that's it, period.  If the prospective reader wants to know what happens next, he or she can purchase the book.  Doesn't that seem to be the correct way to handle things?

I will now step off of my soapbox.  Thanks for listening to my rant.

    Shayne,

It was just an idea odd the top of my head, based on you saying you could see all of it, and then not. Did you buy a copy when you first published it, to check for errors?

When I first read this subject, I kept getting "Pour Some Sugar On Me" stuck in my head. I that's "Step inside ..." but, what can I say, my brain works in strange ways.
