Promo Results 18th-20th (inc Bookbub)
« on: July 19, 2020, 08:34:26 am »
So, there's been a dearth of promo threads as of late, so I shall, boom or bust, put mine up here for people to see.

This is a free promo on a permafree 1st in a nine (will be ten in a week or so) book humorous fantasy series. Book HAS been promoted before, but never with Bookbub, and it was last promoted a year ago.

Stack is as follows:

18th - Bknights
19th - Fussy Librarian and ENT
20th - Bookbub US&Intl (in the Humor newsletter, as every other time I tried for Fantasy I couldn't get in)

--------------------

18th of July: Bknights

Bknights performed very poorly compared to how they have done for me before. Usually I get a nice 150-300 freebie downloads from a Bknights, making them amazing bang for the buck.

Yesterday, 73 downloads... Whether they haven't increased their fanbase much since last year, or whether it's because my book was featured quite far down their page and required some serious scrolling to find, I don't know. Still, though disappointing, it gets the ball rolling, at least.

19th of July: Fussy and ENT

Newsletters from Fussy and ENT have only just gone out about an hour ago. Already at over 200 downloads for the day and climbing. Four sequels sold too, which is nice, though they're later books in the series, so probably nothing to do with the promo itself. I'll update later in the day as more downloads roll out. A big Freebooksy and ENT one-two combo got me well up into the Top100 free last year, but I didn't get a chance to book a Freebooksy this time round, so Fussy will have to be ENT's partner in crime today. I doubt I'll be getting 3k+ downloads like I did that time, but anything north of 1k will do me fine.

EDIT make that 13 paid books now. Someone who downloaded the freebie has bought through the entire series.
EDIT2 15 paid books, 384 freebies so far.
EDIT3 423 freebies gone now. Pretty damn slow compared to Freebooksys and ENTs I've done before. Even Fussy by themselves have shifted more than that by themselves before. Hoping things will pick up this evening. Rank not updated yet, still #1793 free. And, for some reason, #1 in Cell Phone Cables and Adapters... how's that happened?
EDIT4 17 paid books gone out now. 487 free downloads. Hoping it'll be double that by end of the day. Ranks have started to update. At #168 Free overall, #1 in all subcats.
EDIT5 (I will stop editing today's results at some point). 25 Paid books, 550 downloads. Not going as quickly as I wanted, but still steadily enough I have to admit.
EDIT6 Last update for tonight. So far ENT/Fussy have netted a combined 723 free downloads, 27 paid sequels. Currently #151 in free.
FINAL UPDATE FOR 19TH Woke up this morning on the 20th, to find yesterday 1257 free downloads had gone out and 38 paid sequels. Rank #105 in Free. So you know what? I'm not actually too unhappy with that.

20th of July: Bookbub

Today's the Bookbub.

EDIT  The Bookbub email has been out for about two hours now. Currently just over 5k freebies gone out. 47 paid books from today alone. Currently #77 Free overall, though that's definitely not updated yet haha.
Average downloads for Humor is 12k. Nearly halfway there after two hours. I reckon it might make it.
EDIT2 6840 downloads so far. 78 sequels sold. Rank holding at #18 overall.
EDIT3 Over 8000 freebies downloaded. 98 sequels sold today. #14 free. It's slowed down a bit, so doubt I'll be cracking the top ten, but we'll see.

Gonna nip out and buy some beers now... Now drinking these beers.

Yesterday, after a slow start, I ended the day on 1250ish freebie downloads, and 38 paid sales of sequels, landing at rank #105 in Free, which I'm not too displeased with tbh, considering the book's been promo'd with ENT and Fussy before.

Today, however, is the Bookbub. Never been promo'd with them before, so be interesting. I shall update when results start coming in!

Good luck Gareth. Hope it works out for you!
I've heard a lot of buzz about BookBub and am curious to see the results.
    Cheers,
    Marco

P.S. I've applied for an ENT ad myself and would count myself lucky to get anywhere close to the numbers you've got!

Branding is important. I'm glad to see you're cornering the market in cell phone cables and adapters! You've got some humorous fantasy right there!

Best of luck with your promo!

Damn straight - the hilarious thing is, it doesn't even show in that category when you click on it! No idea why it appears between the other two subcats!

Thanks my friend! It's still going, and obviously there'll be the usually second day flurry of downloads too, from people who haven't opened their email yet.

8.5k downloads, 106 sequels and #13 free now. I'd imagine it'll still be going after I've gone bed, it's gone midnight here in the UK, but still evening in the US.

I'll definitely be updating with whatever tail I see over the next few weeks.

    Pfft, tell me about it.

But yes. So far I've given away 11.5k freebies, reached #12 in the US store and #8 in the UK store, and I've sold over 180 sequels. And it's only just gone the first day!

Very happy so far. Hoping another couple of thousand freebies will go out today.

But what I'm interested in is seeing whether I see much of a tail from this. Smaller promos in the past have seen sales pick up nicely, so hoping similar happens with this one too!

Thanks guys! Currently at well over 13k freebies downloaded and heading towards 300 sequels sold, two days after the Bookbub. Page reads are spiking massively, and I have four new reviews on book one (two 5 stars, two 4 stars) and 1 new 5 star review on book two.

Feverishly working on book ten now. 95% complete and aiming to get it released next week to capitalise on the rush.

People always get sales with Bookbub. But do you mind saying how much you paid for the promotion and did the sales pay for you Ad? What was the price of your book? I guessed one would have to sell hundred of books to cover the cost of a Bookbub Ad if the price of your books is under 3.99

Hi Mary Rose. The ad cost $289 and was a promo for the free first in series.

It paid for itself in sales of the sequels within 24 hours. Everything since is pure profit. Cheers!

I thought Bookbub ads costs in the $1000+ range? What kind of ad is for $$289 because that's fantastic for the return you're getting.

The price depends on the genre. Large genres like romance will cost more. G was in humor, which is a smaller category.

It depends on genre and price.

Humor is a smaller category (only 1.2m subscribers compared to say Thriller with 4m+) so costs less than a bigger one. Plus a Free promo costs less than a discounted promo. It's promos charging 0.99c or above in larger categories that you see costing $1k or more.

Sorry, should have continued updating this.

Yes, I was selling maybe one book a day before the promo, maybe a handful of pagereads.

Been making over 100 a day every day since the Bookbub, and it doesn't show any signs of stopping. Got the tenth book ready to release on Sunday/Monday too, so that will boost things further, a new release always does.

      So yeah, very very worthwhile.

I am VERY happy to hear this!

      Haha thanks guys.

Unicorn - what's annoying is that near;y I got to this point two years ago WITHOUT a Bookbub, by steadily releasing sequel after sequel. The sales jumped every time a new book came out. But then life happened, changes of jobs, moving house etc, and I just stopped writing for nearly two years.

So this unexpected Bookbub will hopefully be the thing to get the ball rolling again, and I can keep working on this series, keep releasing new sequels, and hopefully grow it even further.

That's the plan, anyway. We'll see what happens lol!
