Foreign ISBN at KDP
« on: September 15, 2020, 02:40:58 am »
Hi, I've got a technical question regarding ISBN for KDP paperbacks.

I have a set of ISBN numbers purchased from a Polish national agency. Should I register them first with the book title and author name somewhere outside KDP?

Because I understand that KDP checks with some international database if the publisher / author name are in accordance with what you put in in the KDP dashboard.

Yes, assign the title and author in the ISBN database maintained by the Polish ISBN agency. You should've received information for this database when you obtained the ISBNs.

Thank you! So, I don't need to input that data by hand into Bowker's database? I read somewhere that KDP depends on Bowker's when checking the ISBN info.

ISBNs are global. Each country has their own authority for issuing ISBNs to their citizens/residents. Bowker happens to be the US authority and you'd only use them if you're from the US. (And correspondingly, if you're from the US, you would only use Bowker.)
