At first glance "the cypher" and "girls of brackenhill" and "spellbreaker" look promising.

I picked Spellbreaker because I've read some of Charlie N Holmberg's books and have enjoyed most of them.
I'm not sure about a second pick; I'll wait for more reviews.  I did try the Wendy Webb book a few months earlier and I just could not get into it, so I'm hesitant to try The Haunting of Brynn Wilder.

Spellbreaker called to me, too. Also Brynn Wilder until I read the blurb and then it didn't appeal so much. I'll definitely see what reviewers say. Brackenhill is also a possibility.

I'm looking at Spellbreaker too. I enjoyed her Paper Magician series (both Kindle & Audible), thought it's been a while.
I remember them as good fun & diversion.

Ah, yes! I hadn't completely realized it was the same author. I enjoyed that series fairly well also.

(And, of course, now, I see it's written right on the cover! Doh!)

Exactly the same list this month in the UK.

Despite the option to choose two this time, I can't say any of them really appeal to me.

for those considering Spellbreaker, be aware that it is the first part of a "duology" and leaves a lot of loose threads at the end.

I enjoyed the book. It was not a cliffhanger exactly, but it seemed like it ended just as things were starting to make sense.

i finished "the haunting of brynn wilder".  in a word, sad.  in a three words, sad and disappointing.  it starts out good, but goes way down hill in the last 2 chapters, and leaves some major issues unresolved, and in my opinion, kind of idiotically done.

and in my opinion, it is not "gothic", nor is it really all that suspenseful, and there were many times i wanted to slap the lead female.   but there were a couple of good pop cultural references i enjoyed.

Two picks this month and I can barely find one to be enthusiastic about...

Update: I went with The Magnificent Dappled Sea and Spellbreaker.
