Interesting article about print book sales increasing and a sharp increase in teen and young adult sales.

If you don't want to click on the link it is on the Publishers Weekly site under Booklife. Not too hard to find.

It's indeed interesting. I'm not sure how much of the YA fiction spike was driven by the new releases of Suzanne Collins and Stephenie Meyer. But even if the category was rocketed by the brand authors of The Hunger Games and Twilight, it's still noteworthy that so many copies were sold in print, versus ebook.

One possibility is that it's actually older people purchasing, and they prefer paper books? So it's YA fiction category, but with adult buyers?

I'm particularly struck by the YA nonfiction. 36.5% increase? Whew. The top seller is by someone I've not heard of, but then I guess I'm not in the demographic? Description says

Live is about stepping into the life God has for us, instead of the emptiness the world offers. Whether you just need a reminder of the joy in life, or are in the dumps and cant currently see any hope left, there is something in this book for you!

Best Sellers Rank: #2,588 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)
        #1 in Teen & Young Adult Self-Esteem & Self-Reliance Issues
#1 in Self-Esteem for Teens & Young Adults
#3 in Teen & Young Adult Christian Inspirational

    And that's hardcover! $12.

    What a year.

Hmm...my popular YA fantasy series did well for awhile and flat-lined out, but then picked up again to smaller sales. No paperbacks for them to speak of. The biggest surprise was a huge uptick in paperbacks for all my adult stand-alone fantasy thrillers. Unreal. I can only attribute that to my real author name tag, and not the pen name tag for my YA stuff.

I knew damn good and well that Collin's book was going to take the fair. I just knew it. Hadn't followed Meyer and didn't even know she had one poppin' out.
