The link maker was built by the original owner of the site who died some years ago. The site was subsequently sold and the new owners have not kept up the code. Amazon changed some protocols probably 2 years ago and the automatic link maker hasn't worked properly since.
There is a manual one -- on the link maker page, there's a line that says:
(Note: the older, manual version of Link-Maker is available here.)
On that page, the final word -- "here" -- is a link to that version.
edited to add: the whole discussion may soon become moot because they forum owners have announced they'll be changing/upgrading the forum software, probably sometime late this month. Who knows what features will be available then, or how (whether) they'll work?
