Well....my Kindle 3 bit the dust today. Wouldn't wake up, couldn't power off, and couldn't reset. The image ended up half gone with lines both horizontal and vertical. Customer support announced it dead and is sending out a replacement, but I won't see it until Wednesday. Not quite as much fun reading from a cell phone, but it works.

This will be my 3rd unit since September. The first one developed a hairline crack on the inside of the glass somehow and they replaced it.

No clue why it happened in either case.

Anyway....customer support is great.

Meanwhile, I'm sharpening my eyes reading on a 4" screen of my Motorola Atrix.

sorry to hear about your K3! There's always Kindle for PC/Mac for a larger format..... Keep us posted!

Bad luck about the Kindle dying on a Saturday. When one of our K2s died, Amazon had a new one on the front porch the next morning. It was on a weekday, and maybe they shipped it so fast because we had Prime.

Good luck, I know how much you'll miss the Kindle.

Arrrggg ! That is awful, but one of the few reports of complete failure.....and as always, yet another great story about Customer Service.
I suppose you COULD read a paper book.....but that would be like using a dial phone, wouldn't it? Ha!

I don't like reading on the PC...much nicer on a K3 or an Android.

As far as my non-Amazon books ... they're on the PC

But, you're right....they do have GREAT customer service.

A paper book? What's that? I heard people used to have to actually get off the couch to change channels once, too

I hope I'll never have to face the death of my Kindle 3, but if I do, I have a couple of unread paperbacks tucked away for an emergency...

Or trying to roll a car window down.

A friend's son recently couldn't figure out how to get his grandpa's car window to go down because he couldn't find the button.

Just finished reading my most recent book on my Android. It is not a Kindle, but it worked

And Michelle....tell Rick to read "Deep Rough" by Chris Blewitt, if he hasn't already done so.

Now...excuse me while I go heat up my Jiffy Pop on my gas stove and listen to my some LP's on my record player.

Offhand it sounds like a broken screen. Do you have your Kindle in a cover?

The horizontal & vertical lines on the screensaver are what happened to my daughter with her K2. She had it in a backpack going to the gym and when she woke it up that's wehat she saw. She didn't have it in a cover, just a bag, and I'm sure it was a cracked screen. She was a month past the one year warranty, but Kindle C.S. was really nice to her and sent her out a replacement without any problems. She has been super careful with it since then and keeps it in a good cover - and not in a backpack anymore.

They aren't particularly fragile - but that screen is not unbreakable either. A firm cover is a must!

The customer rep said that it was probably the result of excess pressure on the screen or being dropped, neither of which I recall doing. Yes, it's in a cover.

My Kindle developed a spot, kinda looked like an ink smudge, about 3 weeks after getting it for my birthday. I called customer service and a new Kindle was on my doorstep 2 days later. Got all my books & such transfered over. I have to say that was the easiest exchange I've ever made.

I haven't received my cover yet so I only use my Kindle at home... have to keep a paperback with me. Turning the page is so time consuming! Not to mention having to keep track of the bookmark.

Along with the roll up windows and remote-less t.v.'s... remember push mowers? I try to be earth friendly but after spending my summers pushing one of those around the yard, I'll opt for a good ol' gas mower.

I had a really nice OLD electric push mower with a really long extension cord.

I had bought for $50 from someone when it was 30 years old. I ran it for about 3 or 4 years. I never ran over the cord either! Thankfully at this house, my hubby does all the mowing. (I was single when I did all the mowing - and I had a fairly small area to mow.) 60 foot extension cord...
