Well....my Kindle 3 bit the dust today. Wouldn't wake up, couldn't power off, and couldn't reset. The image ended up half gone with lines both horizontal and vertical. Customer support announced it dead and is sending out a replacement, but I won't see it until Wednesday. Not quite as much fun reading from a cell phone, but it works.
This will be my 3rd unit since September. The first one developed a hairline crack on the inside of the glass somehow and they replaced it.
No clue why it happened in either case.
Anyway....customer support is great.
Meanwhile, I'm sharpening my eyes reading on a 4" screen of my Motorola Atrix.
