There was a reason this thread came up. My daughter has been having brain bleeds. Three in the last three months. This last one was pretty bad but it stopped so they sent her home yesterday. We had to bring her back today. She can't swallow so she can't eat or drink or take meds.

Between the brain headache, bad enough, and sciatica, she's in constant, terrible pain. They can't give her enough meds to even take the edge off because she's non responsive. We have hospice standing by.

Please pray for her husband and daughter. They need the strength to help her through this and for after.

There's no hope but I continue to hope.

Thank you.

SJC, I am sorry about your mother in law. Praying.

Gertie, I will pray for your daughter, specifically that the pain will stop.

My friend with cancer (mentioned in a previous post) passed away a few weeks ago. It was pancreatic cancer that had spread to the liver. At the end, she was in a hospice-type nursing home with pain management. Fortunately, her family says she died peacefully.

    The power of prayer.

DD knew me last night. She woke up, her eyes were clear and she was able to say "Hiya, Mom." The two most beautiful words I ever heard. This morning, she passed the swallow test and was able to eat. Coffee, a cookie and some applesauce.

See, I didn't lose hope. DD isn't out of the woods. She'll never be out of the woods, but we thank God for every day we have with her.

I will keep all my KBoards family in prayer.
Especially remembered in love at Christmas time.
SJC - praying for your family.  It is always hard.  Good to have lived a blessed life.
Gertie - every day we have with our loved ones is precious.  The best news is that they will be beyond pain and in the Loving hand of God.  And that we will see them again.  I pray for peace.

I have been experiencing some vertigo.
Have done the Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT) thing.  Now the Neurologist and have had the head MRI done.
Waiting for the MRI to be "read".

Hello all. Praying daily. It's been a tough year. I don't frequent the boards as often as I should but I do think of you quite often and I do keep you in my prayers. GeoffThomas... I went through thousands of dollars and a battery of different tests for the same thing. I diagnosed my vertigo on my own. Onions!!! Very difficult to pinpoint because you do not get the reaction when you ingest them; but you choose to three days later. Severe vertigo often accompanied by vomiting in the worst migraine one can imagine. Prayers...

Geoff, hope (and praying) that you are doing well.

Now I have a serious health issue. I have a pulmonary embolism. Had a CT angiogram with dye on Friday, simply to check out any possible problems because of family history of CAD. Cardiologist called me right after I got home to tell me. I thought "now I'll be put into the hospital." Also "how am I not dead?" But no, she prescribed blood thinner, suggested two and I took Xaralto.

Had a long episode same day trying to get my prescription filled. Started with Duane Reade (Walgreens) and when they failed by having it filled at a downtown location, I switched to CVS and even there they did not have the starter kit and needed the doctor's permission to fill with two bottles with different dosages. Finally got to pick it up at 10pm.

I have not had shortness of breath, but I wondered why I've been quite tired after retirement. I am no longer spending 10 hours a day, 5 x a week going to and being at work downtown. I'd told the cardiologist in December that the 4 flights of stairs to my apartment was not as easy as it once was, and she thinks that was a sign. I doubt that. I do think it could be hereditary (going to hematologist who is my internist this Wednesday) and will have the blood tests for that. I looked up Evista (Rolaxifene) last night and DVT/PE is a common side effect. So I've stopped without asking the GYN. I had been taking it since last August. Also I had a tripping fall last September and my knee is still not completely healed, which could have caused DVT.

When my brother Russ died in 2005 at age 59, the autopsy showed pulmonary embolism as cause and diabetes. I do think his case was quite different (if you knew us both it would be obvious). I do not have high blood sugar, and my blood pressure was lower than usual prior to the CT angiogram (109/71) and heart rate 55 (it's usually 60, I think).

    What happened to this thread?

I posted earlier about having a pulmonary embolism from March 2nd. I had a CT scan last week and the PE is gone. Very happy about this, although I still get tired and occasional shortness of breath with excessive exertion. Doctor told me that my heart is back to normal size. I am still taking anti-coagulant for at least a few months. In November at next doctor visit she will reconsider whether or not to continue taking it.

Glad all is well. I had one after a month in the hospital. The doc was just discharging me when I suddenly couldn't catch my breath. I was lucky. I only had to take the thinners for six months. I hope it's the same for you.

    Thanks Gertie, Geoff, SJC.

I have been taking Xarelto since March but dosage was halved in September. I hope to be off of it soon. Depends on what my doctor thinks. I don't have any genetic factors, but my doctor had some doubts. I reached the donut hole in my insurance last month, so it costs a lot more now. I can afford it, but I would like to be free of this. I think the pulmonary embolism was caused by another drug (Evista -- synthetic hormone for bone loss).
