Not Quite Kindle / Happy St. Patrick's Day!!
« on: March 17, 2010, 05:40:00 PM »
Happy St. Patrick's Day Kindle family.

I invite you to come over and visit my blog to view a Irish Blessing video.

I am very curious to know the effect the e-reader has had on THE LOVE OF READING.  I suspect it has encouraged MANY to read, who were not avid readers before.

In my case - The e-reader (Kindle) was responsible for me becoming an avid reader.  I did read books for enjoyment before the Kindle, but few and far between.  I mostly read for educational purposes.

« on: January 17, 2010, 09:44:27 AM »
I have a new page at my blog "Writer's Desk" where I intend to consolidate helpful information and resources pertaining to self publishing.  I know I have spent hours searching and researching this subject as I recently took this journey.  I plan to add posts over the next month and half.  I welcome the experienced authors here to add your comments, suggestions and experiences.  This will of course include Edward Patterson's ebook Are You Still Submitting Your Work to a Traditional Publisher? which is just packed with helpful information.

Stop on by periodically and check it out.  BTW, I have also made by blog accessible by smartphone so you can check it Mobily (is that a word?).

Let's Talk Kindle! / A SAD MOMENT
« on: January 11, 2010, 05:13:14 PM »
A coworker of mine lost his Kindle - he left it in the seat pocket in front of him on the place.  :'(

WARNING TO ALL - Never put your Kindles in the seat pocket of the plane!

Also - He did contact Amazon and de-registered it, they told him that since he lost it they would not re-register it to anyone else (making it a dead unit).  I found that interesting because I thought I read here that when others have tried to do that they were told by Amazon that they were not allowed to NOT re-register it to a new owner.

Let's Talk Kindle! / How do you correct small font on PDF's
« on: January 10, 2010, 06:14:49 AM »
A couple of my Kindle buddies have come to me with a Kindle question I can't answer - since the upgrade they have uploaded PDF's to their Kindle 2's and find the font is extremely small.  Does anyone here know about this and how to correct it?

Does anyone here have a recommendation for a nice Christmas story to read?  Seems appropriate this month.

The Book Bazaar / "The Legend of the Seahawk"
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:58:43 PM »
I am extremely excited to announce the release of my book The Legend of the Seahawk in the Kindle Edition at ($2.50)!  The paperback will follow shortly.

Owning the Kindle contributed to me getting back to finishing this book, which I started back in 2005.  Being a Kindle owner I decided to have it formatted professionally for the Kindle (he did a wonderful job); I like to see our Kindle books formatted properly.  It includes all the Kindle navigation capability.

About the book- It is a Mystery Novel with a Paranormal Twist -
In the small Connecticut seaside town of Stuart Cove, David, a young ambitious professional takes a short leave of absence from his job at the New York Daily Press to settle his elderly aunt’s affairs after her death. On a visit to the Fishhook Pub, an old fisherman approaches David. This old man has a story to tell—a story about a lighthouse keeper named Danny and the loss of the fishing vessel, Seahawk. She went down during a storm back in 1956, but as the old man says, “That doesn’t tell the whole story.” David finds his life, and the lives of others, forever changed by this tale and the spirit of the Seahawk’s captain, Scott Spear.

This is hot off the press, I can seach on the title and author (Adele Clagett), but not on the ASIN yet, therefore I am not able to insert the picture link to the store.  Therefore I have to include this extremely long link instead.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Will she like it??
« on: November 20, 2009, 02:22:40 PM »
I bought my sister a Kindle for Christmas, the thing is she didn't ask for it - I'm just assuming she'll love it, like we do.
We may be celebrating Christmas during Thanksgiving, so I may find out soon.

The Book Corner / How the Kindle has Changed my Life
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:34:32 PM »
I'll have to say the Kindle has had a large impact on my life.  I got my Kindle 2 back in March and began reading like never before.  I stopped watching TV (except one show a week).  I also decided to finish writing a novel I began a few years ago, it is now with an editor and hopefully not far from publication.

That is how the Kindle has Changed my Life.

The Book Corner / Fairy Tales with Illustrations?
« on: June 22, 2009, 06:40:54 AM »
Can someone recommend a good Childrens Fairy Tale book for the Kindle that has a Table of Contents and Illustrations?

I had this question in another post, but it should probably be it's own topic - I have a question for you Kindle owners who have both the 1 and/or 2 and the DX - Do you use both - one for a particular purpose and the other for another purpose?

Introductions & Welcomes / Kindle Addict from Maryland
« on: June 21, 2009, 06:00:48 PM »
I have been reading these boards for some time now and have done some posting - Now I'm finally introducing myself.  I bought my Kindle 2 in March and have not been able to put it down since - I was some what of a reader but now I read every chance I can get.  If I am not reading or doing those necessary things like working and chores then I try to spend a little time viewing these boards.  I must say I am very impressed with the folks here - the conversations are top quality.  I learn, I laugh, and I relate. :)

The Book Corner / No Cover or Table of Contents
« on: June 21, 2009, 05:32:12 PM »
I have a question  :-\  Why are some of the Amazon Kindle books missing a Table of Contents and the Cover?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Hotels Lending Out Kindles
« on: June 21, 2009, 04:28:07 AM »
IBD - Trends & Innovations Section - 22 June Edition - "Hotels began lending handheld reading devices such as Amazon's Kindle and Sony's Reader digital Book to their guests to use during their stays.  The Algonquin Hotel in N.Y. and Gansenvoort hotels in three locations have started such services.  Guests at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami can borrow pre-downloaded iPods."

I suspect that will help sales - as we know, once people use a Kindle they will want their own.

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Auto Reboot
« on: June 09, 2009, 03:49:26 PM »
I have a K2 which I have had since March, occasionally it reboots (approx. 8 times or so) right when I'm in the middle of searching or doing something else besides just reading.  I was talking to another K2 owner who noticed this on his for the first time the other day.  After the reboot it puts me back at the home page.  Others have this issue or happen to know what causes it?? ???

The Book Bazaar / Adding Kindle books to your Wish List
« on: June 08, 2009, 01:08:13 PM »
I am trying to implement a suggestion seen here to create a Wish List for monitoring specific book prices (waiting for them to go down to $9.99), but I do not see where I can add a Kindle book to a Wish List  ??? - I'm sure someone here knows the answer.

I thought I read somewhere here that you should check for upgrade/updates to Whispernet - if correct, how do you do that?
