Title: Looking forward to the Book Klub!
Post by: Dana on March 25, 2010, 07:10:05 am
I recently purchased all 3 after sampling Elfhunter.  Finished Elfhunter a few days ago and really looking forward to participating in the club.  :)

This series is a new genre for me, but wow.............  so much fun.  VERY well written!

Good to see you here Dana.
I KNOW you will like all the books.
And you will love C.S. Marks (archer here  in KB).
for background check out some of her threads and skim through the posts.
This will be as much fun as Boyd Morrison's Klub or Mike Hidks' Klub.

Hi folks, I split out Dana's post and started a new thread with it to encourage discussion here!  Have fun!

I too am looking forward to this -- just finished the trilogy but am still looking forward to going back through it and finding out what I missed as I was swept along the first time.  Be interesting to see if others saw the same things I did.

I've met Archer and was a prize winner in one of her giveaways...  She's a very talented and sweet Kindleboarder. The excitement of her readers in her giveaway thread was contagious and now I'm hooked too!  :D

Same here, I also won DTB copies of the first two books in archer's recent giveaway. I've read all the books once but I'm really looking forward to going through them again with archer.  Also, anyone that wants to engage in some off-topic chat with archer and friends is welcome to join us in the Not Quite Kindle thread Elves just want to have fun! https://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,21638.0.html (https://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,21638.0.html)

Ooh! I've got goosebumps! I can hardly wait. Discussing my world with my friends...it just doesn't get any better than that! We might even make some new friends and pick up new readers, too. I'm trying to talk my friend Carie, who drew the gorgeous maps, to join in!

(I'm so glad you liked Elfhunter, Dana. Just you wait!)

I've never done a book klub before, so I'm not sure how this works.  Do I need to have the whole book read by April 1st or just the first few chapters?  I'll probably read the whole book anyway since I have trouble stopping if the book is really good, but just thought I'd ask in case things get hectic between now and then and I do have to stop for such mundane things such as work and cooking supper.
Title: Re: Looking forward to the Book Klub!
Post by: Archer on March 26, 2010, 01:28:44 pm
Stacydan:
Oh, my heavens no! You don't have to have any of it read by the first, as we'll be starting then. You can read the first 'block' (I have yet to figure out how much of it that should include) and we'll 'discuss'...just like a book club does. I'll think of a few questions to get you going, but I expect most of the discussion to originate with the readers.

You can start reading any time, though...and if you HAVE read the whole thing by the first, you won't be alone. I know many have read the whole trilogy already and are now re-reading.  :)
This should be lots of fun! I'm looking forward to sharing with you and getting to know you.
(FYI--Elfhunter is about 500 pp in print)

In the past I have been involved in many DTB clubs.  I like the interaction of
the group bantering about. I am going to attempt this only because I do have
all three books and figured this would be a good start.  I have been anxious to
start this series and this is a great way to get my feet wet.

The only hard part about this Klub, and it will affect quite a few of us, is that we're going to have to be really REALLY careful in our discussions.  We want to make sure we limit ourselves to only talking about the parts that the Klub have read. And that might prove to be very difficult....

I can just see a discussion: "I like Gaelen, and I think she'd think about that this way because remember when she did something!  .... OOPS .... she hasn't done something yet has she???"

Sometimes a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing....

I know, but that's the risk we take. The little black boxes (which are ever-so-tempting to mouse over) come in handy.
We can't read your post until you submit it, so you can employ the ol' spoileroo!
:-)
I have divided the book into eight parts. Working on questions for part 1. By the time the first of April rolls around, I'll have 'em all up.
You can go to whichever section you're ready for that way. You can participate in many different ones at once if you want to.
You can dance in a pink tutu (just don't post it on YouTube).

Oh my gosh, just minutes ago I was trying to decide what book to read next. Then I decided I should read Elfhunter.  On a whim I came to kindleboards (usually I only make it to the free book page as school keeps me very busy but on spring break this week) and look what I find!!! An Elfhunter book club!

I look forward to dropping in and seeing what people have to say as I start school on Monday and don't know how much time I will have to stay on top of the reading. Not to mention taking time out to take the nieces (2) and nephew (1) to Greatwolf Lodge on Wed/Thur next week so lots of reading to do before Monday!

I should call my sister, I gave her the signed dtb that I received.

My Bentley is a Brussels Griffon. I made my living for the past 14 years by owning a Doggie DayCare.
We retired last March (hard to believe its been almost a year).  We now do it out of our house but
on a much smaller scale..  Our speciality is small dogs.

Ok, Archer...you've extracted your first tear.  It took all the way through Elfhunter and 73% of the way through Fire-heart, but when Gaelen came back from seeing the Scourge for the first time and put her head on Finan's shoulder it got me.  I do love a book I can "feel" as well as read.

Awwww. I love a fella who's not afraid to admit that he's a little tender-hearted.

There are a few of those moments in the books for me...but most are at or beyond where you are now. There is a scene in Fire-heart, and another in Ravenshade, that gets me no matter how many times I read it.
Thanks for sharing.

If you have only seen the movie, you simply must read the book.  You will absolutely love it.  There is so much more to the story than what is shown in the movie.  Move it to top of the TBR pile!

I hope Amazon keeps their 33% discount on the print version. Makes it ever-so-much more palatable--and I'm not sure I'd hand my 'precioussss' over to teenagers, either!

Geoff - funny thing about employers, they give you a paycheck and not only do they expect you to show up, but to actually work while you are there!  Hmph, Personally, I think I just have entirely too many books to read to be at work, but alas, I fear they are most unsympathetic to my plight.  But we do have our kindleboard friends who can empathize with us!

Started my 2nd reading of Elfhunter today, and thinking about archer's questions.  I'm trying very hard to treat the book as though it's my first time through, remembering my initial reactions - though it's hard to get the image of Gorgon that I developed over the series out of my head.  Will do my best not to use any foreknowledge of events when discussing chapters.

Archer, thank you for posting the questions for all of the sections at the beginning of the Book Klub journey. I put all of them together in a text file that I put on my K2 so that I could add my thoughts as annotations to that file while I was rereading Elfhunter. That way I do not have to worry as much about commenting on what is ahead in the book. It also lets me record my thoughts before I can be influenced by other posts. :D

Welcome aboard, kkay5!  This is the first book klub for many here, so I'm guessing it will be pretty fluid with the "rules".  Probably more of guidelines, actually, but I'm sure nobody will be left behind.  I believe Archer has some initial questions posted for the first few chapters, all in different threads included in this forum.

Learn the whole klub thing "with" us, ok?  And don't be shy to speak up...it's a great group of folks here!

Hi, kkay!

Ibrew is right...lots of us (including me) are new to the idea of a book klub online. I took my cues from another author who designed his klub so that folks could participate at their own pace. If you look at all the topics in our little book klub you'll see the book divided into seven sections. Each one has several questions to stimulate conversation/discussion, but as far as I'm concerned you can go anywhere you want to. You can ignore the questions, make up some of your own, whatever you will enjoy the most.

We're a fun-loving, happy bunch in general. I'm really looking forward to this! SO glad you're here to share with us.

--'Archer'

PS: Wow, Annalog! Your organization is a shining example to us all!  :)

I promised that I would get a signature line banner created.
My good friend Mike Hicks (In Her Name author) made it for us.

I will post tomorrow how to add it to your signature, if you want to.

Just sayin.......

I've heard such good things about 'In Her Name'--I want to read that one when I whittle down the 'pile'.

That's so cool, Geoff! I am the biggest techno-boob in the world. Fortunately, I'm married to a techno-wizard, but he doesn't have time for my little forum failings. So glad I've got friends like you to help conceal my ineptitude.

Before Geoff:  :-\ :P

After Geoff:  :D

In order to add the banner to your signature line:

The IMG code is:

Code:
http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo151/kreelanwarrior/book-klub-elfhunter.png

Copy that and press the insert image button (3rd from the left on the second button line in the post editor). Then position your cursor between the two [IMG][IMG] and paste between them.

And then all will know that you are participating in the Elfhunter book klub.

Just sayin.....

Testing this out....

How do we add it to our signature?  ETA - I figured it out!  After you use the 3rd button and insert the link into the brackets, copy the whole thing and go to your profile and paste the whole thing in the signature box.

I love it...everyone's smart enough to figure this out except me! It didn't work.  :(

Winter...be sure to tell us how your meeting went, okay?

It's not difficult.

First you copy the thing. then you click the image box over this :  ;D smiley. then you paste it inside the image things. then you copy all that into your signature tadam!
