Title: Am I the only one?
Post by: 911jason on October 17, 2010, 05:01:45 pm
...who gets really annoyed when someone posts a new thread with no content and just a link to their latest blog post?

This seems to be a growing trend and it's driving me nuts!

Okay, rant mode is off now.  ::)

No, you are not the only one, include me in this. I will not go to the linked blogs. If they want me to read their efforts, they can post them on KindleBoards.

I totally don't mind threads based on blogs, since I don't keep up on reading blogs, but I wish they would post the content in the thread, instead of just a link to it. I don't think I've ever clicked through the link to read a blog. It just feels too much like an advertisement.

I agree with everyone else. I do not click on links or read any blogs and if someone has something I want to read I'll read it on a KB thread.

I've been guilty of this - once  :-[ but only because I was looking for feedback on the way I'd set the blog up.  After that I figure if people are interested in the blog either they'll find it or they'll go back.  It's not really a KB thing after all  ;)

Oh I don't mind looking at websites/blogs to give feedback on how they look! That's the exception. :D

I agree that is a growing and troubling trend. I wonder if y'all feel the same way about a thread I posted recently about a review I'd received. I felt odd posting the content of the review in the thread. Hmmm...

From Forum decorum (https://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,36.0.html).
Quote
Do not re-post Amazon reviews here. If you do have reviews of your book at other sites, you may include a link (don't repost the whole review) to that site.

I don't have the same problem with reviews. It just bothers me when it feels to me that someone is trying to take me away from the KindleBoards site to try and sell me something.

Thanks for the decorum reminder, intinst.

I don't mind links to a blog, I just can't stand when that is the entire post. At least post the first few paragraphs, and then provide a link to the full post.

Glad I'm not alone in this! ;)

Can I add to the annoyance (is that a word?) those people who open a new thread every time their dog farts?  I mean, look for the Dog Fart thread and post there for pity's sake.  I hate clutter and these little one or two post threads about inane topics drive me crazy!  Thanks for allowing me to post here.  Now please follow the link below to see more my favorite rants... just kidding. :D

I'd really prefer you start your own thread about dog farting instead of farting in my thread.

Thanks for your anticipated future cooperation.

Would you prefer the threads be more dynamic and include human farts as well?

Did you get back to me on that word immiscible or was that someone else? Human flatus is fine as long as it is substantive, relevant to the topic and interesting, yet not linked to an external blog expounding the advantages/disadvantages of gassing friends and relatives, random store aisles, bus passengers, movie theaters and people standing in line at Wal-mart.   :D

But would it be relevant?  :-\

I didn't - basically it just means that things won't mix.  oil and water are "immiscible".

Thanks, Mr PLD.  I could have looked it up, I guess.  I like words like that. They are fun to pull out on unsuspecting victims.

I'm sorry,  I have been guilty of this. I am trying to get some traffic for my blog because I'm focusing on grammar for indie writers, so I thought the Writer's Cafe might be a good place to do that. I did not mean to annoy you. I am really trying to help. I'm sorry.

I see yet another thread that had good intentions was temporarily hijacked for nonsense again.
 :'(

I do agree with the OP that header-less posts are especially annoying.
There is a thread for the posting of blog url's.
I think Carolyn Kephart started it.
It serves a useful purpose.
And many have a link to their blogs in their signatures.
So there is no need to "remind us".
However if there is a significant point to be made, as IntInst has said, please post the content here - we would be delighted to read the content.

Just sayin.....

I'll sometimes try to direct traffic to my blog, "Kindle Taproom", but never by simply asking people to go there.  I'll always make an effort to say something interesting or amusing in the Kindleboards post itself, as well... or at least clearly tell you WHY I think you might enjoy a visit to my blog.

For example, I just attempted a serious review of a Kindle erotic title, "Under Mr. Nolan's Bed", by Selena Kitt.  It would be nice to see what a few of you think of it. Haha, and you can also vote in my "Who do you think should win the World Series?" poll.

Personally, I don't want to read some blogger's "novel" on a message board. I would rather they post a paragraph on the boards, and the link to the full article, should I wish to read the rest.

That would be perfect for me as well. I'm not asking for a complete article to be posted here, just more than a link. Something to entice me to visit your blog.

I'm totally guilty of this, sorry.  I usually try to at least give a headline to the post, so you know something about the content, but there is a non-nefarious reason for a blogger to do this.  I like to send people to the blog itself because the post usually includes some sort of formatting, like pictures or videos, or attention to detail that I want the reader to see, not simply the text of the post.  I'd also like you to look around at the rest of my work on the blog, which you might not do if you can just read the post here.  I'm not trying to sell you anything (I'm not monetized), I'd just like to increase my visibility.

Typically I've only done this when I post a book review for a book that doesn't already have a thread on KB, so at least it's relavent.

Well, that sort of turned into a defensive rant, didn't it...if you want more defensive rants visit my blog at ......... :)
