I had to click on that link to see what it was and I noticed something I had not noticed before... When the page came up there was a gold banner above the book stating:It's newish.
Water for Elephants: A Novel and over 190,000 other books are available for Amazon Kindle – Amazon’s new wireless reading device. Learn more.
When I clicked on it I was taken tot the Kindle version of the book. Has that info always been there, or is this something new they have begun doing?
It's newish.I like it! :)
Odd.... I have always used Shift+Insert to paste. Do both work?
That's a good idea, cush. I'm sure there's a way but I'll have to research it.
In the meantime, I added a link to it in the "News" line that is now at the top of each screen. So at least that provides a direct link to it from any forum page.
Can't get any clearer than that! Way to go Pidgeon!
One correction (which simplifies things): the "link text" field can have *any* text in it - and usually will contain the title of the book. It doesn't have to contain the URL for the Amazon page. Whatever text you type in it, will become the clickable text in your post.
What do you do with the generated link that you have copied? Where do you paste it?
Well, not on my end. I get a URL without img brackets as output from the Tool. Give it a try. I have to do as I described to get the cover image to appear in my post.
Holey Moley Pidg, them is sum gud instruckions. Since it tuk me daze to lern to kopy pic wil skip this.
I did this and the picture came out really big. What did I do wrong.
I tried the link maker 2 (and 1 for that matter) to create a picture link to this book The Little Lady Agency and the Prince but couldn't even find it in Link Maker 2

Still not sure how to get this book to work for v2.
I am trying to use the linkmaker to make a link to the kindle version of "still alice," by Lisa Genova, but it keeps telling me no such thing is found. Help?
The Link-Maker 2.0 uses a database that does not have all of the Kindle books in it. Unfortunately, no such database currently exists. You can use the original link-maker 1.0 and create the link manually. There is a link to that at the right side of the Link-Maker page.

I tried to use both the old and the new link-maker to get Rogue Hunter and neither would work. But instinst found it for me, so I'm really confused now!I used the old link maker, don't know what I did different than you.

Last week when I typed in my name "Christopher Meeks" to Link-Maker, I received both of my books of short fiction. Today when I wanted to add a link to a post, neither book showed up. Am I doing something wrong?
As an Amazon Affiliate (and I'm probably not the only one) I was dismayed to find today that I am no longer permitted to include Kindle books in my aStore, nor to link to them directly via the usual Affiliate methods.
I am having trouble with Link Maker 1.0. Are there different instructions for a Mac using Safari to get the picture link?

Yes, Amazon has restricted the searching of the Kindle Store from external websites.
1. This thread has a workaround you can use for text links: https://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,13290.0.html
2. Or you can use the old version of Link-Maker (https://www.kboards.com/link/link-maker-1-0.php) to make your links, but it's a bit more tedious.
3. The Kindle Store search box fields at the top of the screen do work, but they just drop you into an Amazon search page; they don't help in terms of making links in your posts.
I've tried about four times to add a link to my book, but nothing happens. When I search for Carl Melcher Goes to Vietman, using this tool, it comes up empty?(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/416KigsMB8L._SL500_AA246_PIkin2,BottomRight,-16,34_AA280_SH20_OU01_.jpg) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KE5UO0?ie=UTF8&tag=kbpst-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002KE5UO0)(http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=kbpst-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B002KE5UO0])
thanks.
Thanks for responding, Dana, and to Pidgeon92 for PMing great instructions! Last question ... How do I resize those buggers??
It worked for me:
Behind the first img tag, you add width=200 (200 being an arbitrary number, change it to whatever is best). I will update your images for you.
Apparently I'm not the only one still having trouble with the links. Even after I was told how to do it, they sometimes work and sometimes don't. I think the forum ought to see about setting up an easier way to make a link. Don't you?The issue is with Amazon. They have made it very difficult to link to Kindle books for some unknown reason.

I think the forum ought to see about setting up an easier way to make a link. Don't you?I have made links to hundreds of books for KB and I think there was only one that did not work. The system was set up to allow readers to tell other members about a book they were reading or suggest to be read, not just for authors to promote their work.

Hi Harvey
Neither the automatic or manuel link will work for several of my books. Loving Large--Yours, Only And Always, Hunter's Passion, And Any Time, Any Place, don't come up on a search for my author name (Marilyn Lee).
Do you have any suggestions for correcting this?
Thanks.

I've tried the link maker many times and it will only pull up link info to my paperback books? The other one is clunky and doesn't work very well. Why won't this link maker pull up the link to my Kindle version? The "clunky" one is the only one that works for ebooks because of a change that Amazon made for searching on their site.
thanks,
Paul Clayton
The 2.0 Link Maker is not working because Amazon changed how access is allowed to it's Kindle book database.
Here's a link with a video tutorial that Verena made last November on how to use the Link Maker 1.0. . . .Verena, perhaps you can chime in and/or update it. . . .

Hoping for some help with link maker. I've followed the instructions, but the image link I'm getting just creates a small red X where my image should be.

This is a test! This is only a test! This is nothing but a test!
Well it said that it made the three links, and they worked when I tested them, but they didnt appear here!!!!! CRUD!
First, the framed box that holds our signature block (in our profile page) will not "hold" steady when I scroll down to the bottom to adjust the img to make it smaller. I pull down the scroll bar and it "jumps" back up to half way. Any remedy?
Second, I notice that several people have eight or nine images displayed in their signature block. How did they overcome the 1,000 character limit set in the signature block box? I cannot get more than three images to appear. Thanks to everyone.

I used the older version of Link Maker, several times, but no soap. I guess I could add a tiny URL link to the book's Kindle page but I'd really rather have a clickable image like everyone else!
When you mention a book in your posts to this forum, you can provide a link to Amazon's Kindle Store for that book. You can even insert a picture of the bookcover and make that a clickable link to the Kindle Store. It's convenient! And cool!
And we've developed a tool that makes it fairly painless. Better yet, the tool embeds our affiliate info, so that helps keep our site working for you.

I'm brand new on Kindle Boards and just did the bookcover and title links, but am a little in the dark about what to do with them. ??? My book is Learning to Lean (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004WKUUIQ?tag=kbpst-20). I think I understand the text link except that you need to go back to the linkmaker to find the link each time you want to use it. Right?
The signature bookcover picture has me totally confused. This is my first post and I see no place to put it. So I'll put it here. Obviously it worked, whether the right way or not? I'm just not understanding how to keep the links where I can find them and I'm probably not making much sense.

And we've developed a tool that makes it fairly painless. Better yet, the tool embeds our affiliate info, so that helps keep our site working for you.
Check out our Amazon Link Maker at https://www.kboards.com/link
Thanks for using the Link Maker tool!
Sorry, but that Link Maker can't spell. I search for my book, Animaia, and it finds Animalia. At least this version did: https://www.kboards.com/link. I did use another version, on other Amazon boards I think, and it worked okay.Worked fine for me, found the same book as in your signature.

Ok, I went to kindleboards link; the only links I saw on my Amazon book page were email, facebook and twitter. So I manually created a link following the instructions of linkmaker. The link came right up in the preview space. But when I reopen the Amazon page for Resistors, there is still no identifiable link I can copy and paste into a posting...like this one! :-\ I know, I know, I'm a Boards idiot. I'm a writer, not a techie. Would help to be both, yup. peter t
I just used "Leon Chameleon" in the link-maker. . .and both titles in the series came up . . .you don't always have to put the whole title. . .just critical words. . . . .Even easier use the ASIN.
I found the link codes, but I'm new at this and lost as to where to post them.
thanks for replying so quickly, I really appreciate it:) I do have a link to the cover on my website: http://christophercousino.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=129232370 Hopefully it will work:)

Okay, trying this.
This is my next try.

I have searched with the ISBN numbers and such. By name, all sorts of combinations. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong. It has been the last couple months I have started having problems with link-maker. Can't keep The I want this book on kindle forum up to date if I can't use link maker. :(
Sorry.
Marie
It's not you, Marie, it's a problem with Amazon's data for non Kindle books...I haven't been able to get it either. I'll create a link for you manually....
Betsy
When you go to the linkmaker at the top of the page, if you scroll down there is also a link to the 'manual' linkmaker. Open that and the Amazon page for the the book (or other item) you want to link to. In the product details section is the ASIN or in the case of your book, the ISBN, that Amazon uses as an identifier for all their items. Copy that into the proper place in linkmaker. Then get the Image URL for the picture. In firefox, you right click on the image and choose "copy image location." Paste that in the correct spot on Linkmaker, and it will create your links.

Hi Betsy,
I think I'm ALMOST there! I followed your instructions, which were incredibly easy and clear. The mistake I had been making all along was to search for my title in the box above the Linkmaker 2.0 headline. It took me directly to the Kindle store's catalog page.
However, I have pasted the new code in at the top of this post and expected my book information to appear but it didn't.
I'll go back and see if I can figure out what I did wrong.
Thanks. You are a tremendous help.
Marg
What if the book can be read on kindle but is on Smashwords? My book is supposed to be in Amazon but they have not published it there yet. Since last year, more than six months ago.
Also, it's kind of a pain for those with small monitors so it's probably smart to realize that. . . .you might be annoying people by using it. :-\
:P back :D
No, I meant by my humongous pic earlier in the thread. ;)

Is it just me or is the link-maker not working today? I tried to search my author name and nothing came up in the Kindle store. Um, I know I have nine books there... ???It returned 8 of your books for me. Maybe you spelled your name wrong.

I used the link maker and posted the image link but it won't load. It goes to amazon as if it's loading then it never finishes loading. Am I doing something wrong? It works for me.

When I do a search, the link maker only returns the paperback edition of my book, but I'd rather use the Kindle edition. I have the skills to tweak the URL so it works for my Kindle edition instead, but thought I'd mention the problem in case there's something that can be done to fix it.The Link Maker returns your Kindle edition if set to search for your last name or for the book title in the Kindle store. What criteria were you using?

You're right. I used my name and the Kindle edition comes up. When I enter the book title, the paperback edition comes up. I tried using the ASIN, but that didn't work at all.The title worked perfectly for me in the Kindle Store and in Books. The ASIN wouldn't work if you use the paperback ASIN in the Kindle Store or the Kindle ASIN in Books.
Since I'm trying to make a link for a specific book, isn't it most likely I would type in the book title? What would be ideal is if both editions were displayed so I could choose the one I want. For now, I'll just try to remember the name trick.

I was able to duplicate your success in Kindle Store, but not in Books. In Books, I still get the paperback edition (which may be how it is supposed to work). That is, indeed, how it's supposed to work.
I was able to duplicate your success in Kindle Store, but not in Books. In Books, I still get the paperback edition (which may be how it is supposed to work). I guess we'll have to mark this one down as user error. Being a software developer myself, that doesn't happen too often. But now that I think about it, the most sensible thing for me to have done would have been to select Kindle Store and enter the book title. That would have given me the right results the first time.
Thanks for taking the time to assist.
Amazon's link maker doesn't recognise the ASIN of my eBook, THE BOY FROM BERLIN. I can find it on the old link-maker, but it's a lot of hassle. So how come the new one can't find me but the old one can?Are you looking in the Kindle Store? I found it by title and by ASIN.

Yes, I looked in the Kindle store so that I could copy the ASIN number into the link maker box.No, I mean did you select Kindle Store from the drop-down in the Link Maker. It works fine so you're doing something wrong.
I bet you're using the Spain store ASIN.Good catch. I completely missed that.
Where is the "link code" on the right side of the page? What does it look like? Is this it: The+Cheaters:+Turning+Vegas+AroundTo begin with, your email address is always visible to you but you have it hidden from everyone else.
This is on the left side of the screen. Is this it? I also am trying to put the image of my book cover in my posts, but haven't been able to figure it out.
And I'm trying to remove my e-mail address from my profile and have had no luck with that.

Thanks so much Betsy, for fixing my row. I worked on it for ages before I gave up.Ain't she wonderful?
While my wonderfulness is not in question, ;D, Jeff did all the heavy lifting on this one!Glad to help. You're always appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff...I'm travelling and can't always be online right now--I appreciate your jumping in to help!

I tried this and what I ended up with was the code in my post, not an image. I hit select, the control C and control V. Is there some other way to do this?
Thanks!

OK, I tried this too. Typed in my title & got error message:
"API call did not execute successfully. "
I checked my title is there. Its Amazon page is up & running, the book is available.
So ... What do I do now?

I've never been able to figure out how to post the cover of a book that hasn't been published yet.Harriet,
The cover for my newest book is finished and I wanted to post it, but there's no way to make a link since it's won't be on Amazon until sometime this summer.
I've seen other writers post potential covers to solicit input on them, so there must be a way to upload jpegs, but I don't know how.
Help!
Can someone help me. I go to the Link page, then I find my novel and click on CREATE LINK.
From there I get an option of which link I want, so I click on the image link, but nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong? Why can't I get my book to appear in my signature?
Link Maker doesn't seem to recognize me or any of my books. Is that a common issue authors are having?
I did Corona of Blue, but it didn't recognize it. I tried Body of Immorality, too, but that didn't work. No biggy.
for a reason that's beyond me - my three books used as images that link back to Amazon - are stacked up vertically instead of in-line like everyone else's I see...I would guess it is because you hit the enter key between each image, instead of a space or putting them next to one another.
help here?
:(

I've noticed the link to online sample in many of the KB books pages is not working. It says 'beta' version so maybe the problem will be solved eventually.
My questions:
Why does the link work for some but not others?
Is there a schedule for the upgrade to full release of the linking feature?
Is there anything that we authors can do to fix it in our own book listings?
Wow, Betsy. That was a quick response. :o
Here's a link to my book that does not work:
https://www.kboards.com/sample/?asin=B015RL35F8
And here's one to the book listed immediately before mine on the KB author book list. This link works and the look inside opens fine:

I'm trying to make a link to my free book promo for THE MAGPIE MASQUERADE (Part 1) but it keeps providing link (and image) to Amazon's description of the book as a series (all 6 parts) I've tried including Part 1, Part One, with and without parens, but the linkmaker still keeps popping up with only the entire series.
It's only Part 1 that's free -- and today only -- so I'd like to post a link to Part 1, and not the whole series.
Any suggestions?
FWIW, here's the product/book link to THE MAGPIE MASQUERADE (Part 1) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V02GWN6
THanks for any advice you can offer! :-D
You might try putting the B00V0 or ASIN specific number in the link-maker instead of the title.

People have told me how difficult this is, but I didn't believe them until I tried it myself. I went to Link Maker, entered the book's Amazon URL, got "No matches found". I went to Link Maker 1.0, entered the ASIN and all the little URLs (once I figured out where to find the "image" URL), cover image came out about twenty times larger than it should have.
Any ideas?
I can't get Linkmaker to work. I'm using a Mac. I'm trying to post the image, but instead of the image, the code is being published on my post.

I'm having a problem getting one of my covers to come up in the image link maker. All of the others are fine. It's I'm Losing You: Book Four in the Stafford Brothers series.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Susan, what are you trying to do? The covers look good--are you planning on putting them in your signature? The best way to do that is the author signature tool found in the top menu under "authors."
Betsy
Link-maker not working for me. Very frustrating.
The link-maker has not worked for at least 2 weeks, maybe slightly longer. I don't know if it's an Amazon problem not allowing the connections to be made because of availability of non-digital items, whether Admin has larger problems on their plate because of the world-wide pandemic, or they just don't care about KB as an on-going site. :(
Re: link maker.
It's true there's a problem pulling info from Amazon for the automated version. But the old manual version still works. See the italicized note below the search box on the link maker page. The word 'here' is a link to the manual version. All you need is the ASIN for a text link or do a 'copy image location' and enter that for an image link.
Thanks. Bit of a mission to get used to after having the simple version ::) ;)
Just saw this on an Amazon Affiliate page:
"If you have been using Amazon's Product Advertising API (PA API), you must upgrade all of your applications making calls to PA API 4.0 to Amazon's Product Advertising API version 5.0 (PA API 5.0) immediately. As of March 31, 2020, we have completed shut down of PA API 4. After this shutdown, your applications calling PA API 4 will no longer be able to retrieve Amazon product information; and you will receive an error message when your applications make calls to PA API 4.0. Please ignore this message if you have already completed the upgrade or have never used PA API."
I expect management DIDN'T upgrade and that explains why the link maker isn't working. I don't check the page that often -- don't get a lot from the affiliate code I have and don't care that much -- so no idea how long the announcement has been there.
Thanks. So will management be doing the upgrade? :)
I'd say it's extremely unlikely.
Do they even know about it? ::) Has anyone requested it? :D
The link maker was developed/coded by the original owner of this site, who died several years ago. It has since been sold to an organization that apparently makes money by owning bulletin boards. NONE of the coding/design/navigation has been updated since (except to switch to their own affiliate links). Specifically, Amazon changed something in how such searches work to link items on their site. Of course, current ownership has not updated the link maker, which is probably why you are having problems.
However, there is a manual version that, as far as I know, still works. See the italicized note below the search box on the main link maker page. The word 'here' is a link to the manual version. All you need is the ASIN and Title for a text link or do a 'copy image location' and enter that for an image link.
If THAT doesn't work, I'm afraid you're out of luck. You can try emailing the ownership, but they are generally pretty unresponsive. But I did just try it with a random book and it seemed to work.
