Drinking my first Puerh today...... it smells and tastes like fish. Is this a bad one or is that kind of standard? Maybe I'm getting my Omega 3s

One of our favorite uses is actually making our own bone broth. We save all our bones in a bag in a freezer and when its full, we make a batch of bone broth and freeze in mason jars

If the book sounds interesting but its not one I've heard anything about I am more likely to pick it up free and if I like it buy the rest. I have read many indie series that way. If I'm not sure and it's 99c I have to be really interested or see some good reviews I trust.

Part of that is backlog....there are currently more books on my Kindles than I will be able to read before I die so it takes a lot to get up the list

I have no problem with the mods or the forum decorum. But this will probably be my last post here because of the new ToS.

I write in a vacuum. I have trouble getting anyone in my family, even my husband, to give me feedback. Usually, my posts here were of the brainstorming type - I'd write myself into a corner, and ask for hellp - and I always got it.

But with the new ToS I don't feel it safe anymore to talk about plots or characterization, because I don't know how VS would use the material. I'll still lurk here, because sometimes there are good business discussions, but I'll do my brainstorming elsewhere.

I just can't imagine an ad company taking the time to steal parts of an independent author's book and resale them, no matter what the ToS says they can do which wouldn't stand up in court anyway. If the books are selling well enough to make it worth the effort they will also be popular enough to have fan backlash if they're stolen...I just don't see any financial upside for them.  This is a fear that seems unfounded to me

I mean a lot of the WC posts are about how nigh impossible it is to make a living selling and marketing your books full-time....I don't see the forum owners putting that kind of effort into it for that kind of payback

Seems like most indie authors can barely get anyone to read a novel they give away for free, but.. apparently some forum members fear that Verticalscope is going to cash in on the tremendous commercial value of their forum posts  ???

I can certainly understand the principled objection to the TOS, but as a practical matter.. sheesh. A truly silly thing to possibly ruin the community over.

If someone wants to compile all the posts I've ever made on the forum, wrap them up in a book format and then try to sell them on Amazon.. hey, good luck to you.

I'm dying!!

but seriously don't stand in the way of a good internet mob outrage'll get flattened

Im with Atunah and Wisteria, there has been way too much drama and assumption that everything Kboards does and is should be about helping indie authors. There was a nice organic growth into that, but there is a real feeling Kindle readers get from the WC side (I've been here since the K1) that the entire board was created and exists only to promote and support indie authors and FLAME ON if anything occurs on Kboards that does not seem to be expressly promoting and increasing the market share of indie authors. I'm sorry but it is a real feeling that comes across. Which is a shame because I have greatly enjoyed learning more about the writing process, finding new authors, etc.   but man SO MUCH DRAMA.

Honestly I can see the problem on their side with post deletion. I like Kboards, its function to me as a member goes down a lot if the 10 years of threads and conversations I have been involved suddenly make no sense because half the posts have been redacted. It would essentially make the site unusable and illegible.

Good points Twisted Tales....not being an author I am not nearly as upset as some and I'm not sure how much of the drama is that most TOS sound very bad when you actually read them. VS has been around for awhile and I'm not sure yet that I've seen evidence that they actually steal peoples work and make derivative novels from them even if it could technically be ok per the TOS

Before KBoards Harvey had started Zune Boards.  It was . . . . less successful. ::) :)

That's hilarious I forgot about Zune Boards.  I remember the great influx from Amazon forums to Kboards in 2008 and Harvey couldn't access the site to set stuff up for quite awhile.

Ha yes Betamax. My uncle had betamax, my brother put his bet on Video 2000. Don't think that was a thing in the english speaking world though. Course neither won that one in the end.  :P  HD DVD, not sure what that is. Is that just regular DVD's as suppose to blue ray? I had one of those video dvd players long time ago. Movies came on huge disks that looked like LP's. Someone gave that to me and 2 movies. That is all I ever was able to get on it.

Seems like kindle technology seems pretty simple compared to all that. I hope at least it stays around as long as I live. Can't read on tablets.

HD DVD was the BluRay competitor
yeah I worry about Amazon giving up on eInk

yes, I think so. Although I am not sure still what that is.  ;D. But then I never had a music player thingie like that. That is what it was, right? I a music player, like a ipod is, just not an apple thingie.

Yes it was the Microsoft competitor to the iPod that went the way of the Betamax or the HD DVD

Ah yes, I have one of those Insta Pots too. Because of Kboards. And mostly though because of crebel. She talked me into it when it was a deal. Was it black friday or prime, I can't remember. But its her fault.  8)

Don't have a Keurig. I went the other way. Tassimo in the past. Not anymore though. But it felt like when we had Video 2000, Betamax and VHS. I always go for the one that doesn't catch on.  :P.

Lol....wasn't it Harvey that was the Zune fan?

A lot of what I read over the last few years has come from recommendations in threads right here. Lots of the tea I have drunk came from here. Well, not the tea, but the knowledge of that tea.  8)
Lots of my smiles have come from here. And on days when I felt really not so great, I came here.

We aren't just words on a screen. All those connections, even if they seem trivial to some, it adds up. For years. Its like a web of teeny strings and one realizes just how much one values those connections when its threatened.

So much tea.....and Instant Pots and Keurigs......  and book deals!

Sad Day.....I've been a member here since 2008 but looks like 10 years is the limit.  I understand selling after Harvey was lost....but I don't see the great community built here surviving as a big Corp spam list. I don't think it will matter to Verticalscope either....they already got our info to sell

The Book Corner / Re: Best Source of Christian Biographies
« on: February 15, 2018, 05:24:43 pm » is another good one

I donít agree. Perhaps Iím a rare bird, but for fiction, it is EXTREMELY difficult to get me to buy a book from an author I donít already follow. It does happen, but not often. That is creating problems for me, since Iíve been reading science fiction for a long time, and most of my favored science fiction writers are dead now...  :'(

I think hstarkey may have been replying to the earlier comment that a site with better terms for the author on payment would make someone switch....whereas the average customer will not take that into account

Ok still being nitpicky (I hate being that guy) but you can't have free falling gravity bombs in space..... that self sacrificing crewman would have pushed the button and the bombs would have just floated there...

Ok I'll add specifics since we can spoil more. In the first battle there are like 4 regular star destroyers and the giant battleship thing. The 4 star destroyers sit there not firing a short or launching fighters while one x-wing shoots out all the cannons on the giant star destroyer, then do the same as a a flight of bombers slooooowwly makes its way over the big ship and drops bombs. None of the star destroyers even move toward the enemy cruiser which is just sitting there.

In the second battle which takes half the movie its a running chase sequence where a whole fleet of star destroyers chase the rebel fleet for like 2 days....but never get closer or farther away and can just stay at extreme range which keeps them from being able to do any damage to them. They would have to be going the exact same speed for 2 days...and again they didn't have like a thousand fighters they could have launched?  This only existed so our heroes could leave the ship, fly a shuttle halfway across the galaxy....get captured....escape.....etc.... and return while the chase is still going on...  It was way too obvious they changed the rules of battle to allow their story despite previous setups that showed it would not have occured that way at all. Instead of setting up the battle so it had to occur that way...maybe one crippled star destroyer whose fighters had all been destroyed elsewhere?
