Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: New oasis -- First Impressions

I like everything so far.  But I am worried about the battery.  It is better than the first Oasis, but so far, it seems to drain faster than my Voyage.  What are your thoughts?

I really like this one!  I had two bad experiences with the first Oasis.  I am hoping this one will be better.

I also like the cloth cover.  I would like the indigo, but I'm afraid it could have a slightly purplish tint to it when it arrives.  The picture looks very blue, though.  I know the merlot seemed to have a different shade in person than what people saw online.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Oasis dust under screen?
« on: May 09, 2017, 04:05:42 pm »
I decided to bite the bullet and try another Oasis since my wife picked up my Voyage and liked it.

I am noticing, however, that if I look at the screen at an angle, looking toward the lights, I can see white specks showing up on the dark backgrounds.  If I am looking straight on, I don't see them.

I did not notice it on my Voyage.

Has anyone else had that issue with the Oasis? Is it normal, or is there dust under the screen?

If anyone had that problem, and if you tried to get a replacement, did you finally get one with no issues?

Now that the Oasis has been out for a while, and many have had time to read and charge multiple times, do you find the Oasis and cover are still holding their charges very well?

I tried an Oasis (very, very briefly) but ended up sending it back when it first came out.  Today it is on sale for $50 off, so I am thinking of biting the bullet and trying one again (longer this time).

Thanks for your thoughts!

It does apply there, Ann.  These books were all purchased through Amazon's store, however.

I did more research and found another forum where several people are having this issue. Some glitch on Amazon's part, perhaps.

I can go to the "Manage your content" page on Amazon and send the book to my Kindle after deleting it, but it doesn't register as even being in the cloud from the Kindle itself if deleted.  It's odd.

Upon searching some more, I notice that some books I choose to remove say "remove from device," but some say "delete this book."  Weird.

My Kindle Voyage just downloaded a software update.

If I remember correctly, before the update, if I wanted to remove a book, I would choose something like "remove from device."

Now, it says "delete book."  I just did that to remove a book from my device, and it is not registering that I have it in my library.  If I go to the book on the store, it says to go to my library, but when I go there, I cannot find the book.

Anyone else having these issues?  It is update

So when I got him his own I decided it'd be easier for ME ::) to have it just open to what he was reading or his home page which has covers of books he might want to read. :D

Ann, that was too funny!

Thanks for the input.

When I originally got my Kindle, I paid $20 less and stuck with the ads.  The longer I have had it, the more frustrated I am getting with having them, not being able to just open and read, etc.

I am thinking of paying the $20 to have them removed, but I also keep thinking that is money I could use for books and so on.

Has anyone else decided later to pay to remove ads?  Do you not mind having them?  What are your thoughts?

I realize nobody can tell me what is right for me, but I like hearing what others have to say.

Thanks, Ann!

Thanks, Atunah!

I got about 7 hours when I tested this. Normally it would go in the cover in between reading sessions. But I did a test out of the cover until I about ran it down. So 7 hours, wifi on, light at 10. I read 2 books. 7 hours reading time.

Thanks for the info, Barry!

I tried the Oasis twice and decided to stick with my Voyage. The battery did drain fast for me with both Oasis devices. And, like you, my Voyage appeared to be much crisper. I even stuck my Voyage in a drawer and solely used the Oasis for a week. So, there's nothing wrong with the display of the Oasis, just that I was used to the crisper text.

Thanks!  I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had those experiences with the devices!

Forgive me for not reading all of the posts on the previous pages.

If you start reading with your Oasis (no cover) at 100%, how many hours of reading do you tend to get from the Oasis alone?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Question for those who went from Voyage to Oasis
« on: December 16, 2016, 10:41:44 am »
I own and love my Voyage.  I tried an Oasis, but ended up sending it back.  As I posted in another thread, I may not have given it a fair chance, however, and have actually considered ordering another one and trying again.

I do love the autoadjust feature for the light on the Voyage.  I leave mine on, and it really helps me as I read at night or move to a lighter room.

I have owned several of the Kindles before.  My current Kindle is a Voyage.

A month or so ago, I ordered an Oasis to try.  Immediately, I noticed the Voyage had a darker contrast (so the text looked clearer).  I also noticed that while my Voyage may have a slight color change from top to bottom from the lighting, it was less noticeable than the lighting issues on the Oasis, only because of the direction of the lighting.  When reading from top to bottom, I think my eyes adjusted to the change naturally, so I couldn't tell a difference; on the Oasis, however, since the lights are on the side, I could see the difference more easily every time my eyes shifted from left to right and back again on a line.

I also noticed the Oasis battery depleting very quickly when the Oasis was out of the case (which is the main way it is designed to be held).

I really only tried it for a few hours, max.  I ended up sending it back.  The contrast, the lighting, and the battery were huge issues for me.

After reading many of these posts, however, and reviews, I am wondering if I should try again.  I wonder if the lighting was more of a defect.  I also wonder if the battery may have been draining as a result of indexing more than just normal use.  I am second-guessing my decision to send it back, wondering if I gave it a fair chance.

Has anyone else noticed abnormally fast draining of the battery if the Oasis is out of the case?

I'm wondering if I should just stick with my Voyage and be happy, or shell out the money for an Oasis again.

I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

1) I currently have my Amazon account under an e-mail address that I rarely use anymore due to a large amount of spam.  My father also shares my account with me (his Kindle is on my account).  Can I go in and change my account e-mail address to the address I use most?  If I do, will both Kindles still be on the account and will all of the books I already have be kept.  Or if I change my e-mail address will I essentially start a new Kindle account?  I hope that makes sense.

2) I am a teacher, and I just got done with a training workshop that is asking me to get a few books on Kindle.  They are giving us an iPad to use, and they recommend that we start a new account for work through our district.  We don't have the iPads yet, so I thought about creating the account using my work e-mail, downloading the Kindle for PC app, and reading the book that way.  If I do, how hard will it be later to get the Kindle book on the iPad they give me?  Should I just wait until I actually have the iPad?

Not Quite Kindle / HD TV and BluRay question
« on: September 18, 2010, 10:43:24 am »
I'm hoping someone who is more technologically inclined than I am can help me with this question.

I just recently purchased a 40-inch HD TV from Samsung.  It is 1080p and 120 hz.

I also purchased a Samsung BluRay player to go with it.

When I set it up, I put in a DVD I am very familiar with.  It was definitely clearer and better looking, but it appears that the movement and everything is a little faster.  It's not as if it is being fast forwarded, but it seems faster than it used to.  The sound is not off or faster, and it is staying in sync with the video, so I'm not really sure what is going on.

I tried a BluRay disc last night, and I didn't notice any speed issues with it.  It seems to only be with DVDs.

Can anyone tell me why that might be happening?  Is it okay?  If so, is it just something I'll have to get used to?
