Good morning from very cloudy NE Texas where it is 75 and a very strong chance of thunderstorms. Last day of finals here at Kilgore College and it is very quiet in the office right now!

Not Quite Kindle / Re: What gave your day a "thump" today?
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:45:12 pm »
My thump today was learning of the recent passing of Jeff Hepple when I was so excited to be back among my KB family after a year long plus absence. I can at least draw comfort in knowing he did not suffer long and that he has joined another great man in heaven, my dad.

OMG... My heart is breaking. I just returned to KB this evening and was so looking forward to meeting up with old friends. Jeff is one of those I went looking for in a thread where he always offered me encouragement only to find that he has passed. There aren't enough words to express what a great man he was and I will always treasure the books he enticed me to read that did not fit into my normal genre. I was so honored to meet him face to face May 23, 2010, and even more honored when he used a picture I took of him that day on the cover of one of his books. My heart aches for his family and I am so grateful and blessed to have know this wonderful man.

Hello KB Family... My name is Angela. I am a longtime member of this forum who has been away for over a year due to many circumstances beyond my control. I live in NE Texas where I moved in 2007 from Houston to help care for my parents. It was late 2008 when I purchased my 1st Generation Kindle and joined this forum while I awaited his arrival. In 2010 my father passed away and my first Kindle died a horrible death later that year and was replaced with the 3rd Generation Kindle (which is still going strong). My mother moved in with me in 2011 and the hubby who had remained in Houston to work while I took care of parent's finally was able to move north in 2013 and is now working out of our home. I got a Paperwhite for Valentine's Day this year and don't miss the reading lights one bit!! Anyway, a lot has happened that kept me away and out of touch. I hope to reconnect with my many KB friends & family as well as meet new people. Looking forward to getting to know you all again!!  :)

Dear Father in heaven, I lift up my friend sjc to you right now. My heart breaks for her and all she is going through. Please hold her close and remind her that You are with her in the good and bad. Comfort her and give her peace. Help her to keep her eyes on You. I know that You love her and I do too. In Your name I pray. Amen.

I have no clue, and since I am not the one who will have to live with the results, I'm avoiding my usual opinionated posts and avoiding offering an opinion.  I will say that if you already have version 4.1.1 as Ann does, I'd think twice about any upgrade.

That is why I am unsurenwhat to do... I am on version 3.2 and I want the upgrade! The 3.0 to 3.2 upgrade showed up as a message on my XOOM, just the way this upgrade notice, but it was in English. I may be stuck unless I can find another source for downloading.  :-\

Wish I could have joined you. Great pic!

I DO have a Xoom (WiFi only). . . .you can check for updates and if there is one ask to have it sent.  I think you want to go to settings and then 'device' or 'about Xoom' (I forget off hand what it's called) and there should be an option for 'system updates'.  Tap it and it'll tell you if there's one available.  My Xoom is on 4.1.x.

My XOOM is wifi only as well. When I go to settings, system updates, it sometimes tell me no updates at this time, or it brings up the Latin American one. I just don't know if I should proceed with the update.

14
I keep getting an update notice for my XOOM, but it is not in English. It apparently is for Latin America, since that is all I am sure about. I am a bit nervous about accepting this update. Are there differences in US updates and others?

Wow so much has been going on and I was clueless! Someone hacked my hotmail in June and it took forever to get it straightened out and I had stopped getting my email notices from this thread. Of course I still lifted you all in prayer, but I am so sorry it took me so long to get back online to see  what all has been going on. Harvey, my heart is saddened at your news and I am praying for you and your dear family. Geoff and Kathy, I am joining you in prayer for those you have mentioned.

I hope to be online more now that summer is over and the gkids have all gone home. My hubby retired July 1st and has moved home, doing consulting work. We still don't know what caused my chest pains back in May, or the constant pains in my legs, ankles and shoulders. Must just be old age!

I pray you all have a safe and blessing filled Labor Day weekend.

Happy Mother's Day everyone. I hope this finds you all well and happy. I continue to pray for each of you daily. As promised, I will try to update you on my life. My momhasa now been living with me for just over a year now.  Each time she finishes a round of home health care and physical therapy she falls again. Back in March she fell while I was out running errands and didn't bother to tell me she was on the floor when I called to check on her. She was on the floor for nearly 3 hours. I had to call 911 for help to get her up. She wasn't hurt, she just did not have the strength to get up. Then the day before Easter she was out shopping with my aunt and fell in the parking lot and spent 6 hours in the ER. It has been an exciting Spring with her!

Now for my news. I have a new job as the Ministry Assistant for the Kilgore College Baptist Student Ministry. This is a part time job and tailor made for me. I have been there for 3 weeks now. That is praise #1. Praise #2, I have a good and strong heart... Thursday evening I was having some pain in my upper back. I promised my hub by if the pain got worse I would go to the doctor. I asked the Lord to give me a restful night and would go to the doctor if the pain was still there by morning. I slept like a baby, but as soon as I got up Friday morning the pain was so bad I could hardly breathe. I went to the medical clinic and they decided to do an EKG, decided it was abnormal and sent me to the ER. They admited me and ran a bunch of blood tests and ended with a stress test on Saturday. As soon as they determined that my heart was OK they kicked me out and I came home. I still have some mild pain, but have no idea why I am hurting.

So that is what has been up with me. Oh, and we now have high speed internet which means the hub by is closer to being able to move home! :-)  We are looking at 4-6 months for him to retire. It will be good to have him home full time.

That's it for now. Love you all!

Will be upgrading soon. If I can convince myself to give up my slide out keyboard, I will get the Razr or the Max. If not, then the Droid4.

"May You be Strengthened With all Power":

11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy,
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.  (Colossians 1 : 11 - 14 - ESV)

Life has been crazy. I will try to update next week. I miss you all and pray for you daily.

Praying for you all this beautiful Easter morning.

"A Prayer of Blessing":

2 Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.  (3 John 1 : 2  - ESV)

Loving this season so far. Didn't get to see the elimination, but I had guessed it would be Martina. Can't wait till next week!

Edit:  also posted the question on the Xoom Forums and received a response. . .turns out holding the power button is just turning on and off.  A soft reboot is done by holding the power button and the volume up button at the same time. . .that's fixed it and I'll be MUCH more careful about how dim I make the screen from now on! :o

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that powering down the XOOM was not a true reboot. Good to know.

sjc - love you girl and praying for you.

As always, praying for each of you here as well as your families and friends. We are doing well here. My mom has been released from Home Healthcare. Now if she will only keep up with her exercises!

Can't wait!!! I need light - I'm photosynthetic!

The puppies will sleep an extra hour (they get up at the crack of dawn) and I can fiddle around in the garden or run in the evenings.

Hooray for the puppy sleeping later! Oliver is up as soon as it begins to lighten up outside and then wants everyone to go to bed when the sun sets. Plus I love the extra evening sunlight on my back porch. Let's me know winter is almost over. Yea sunshine! :-)
