Apple devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod...) / Re: iPad Pro
« on: December 25, 2015, 11:46:01 pm »
I have one and love it. Watching movies on it is great and the speakers are really nice.  It is also nice for reading things like graphic, comics, reference books etc. I use my mini ipad for most of my reading.  One thing I have found is you really need a case with a strap to really hold the pro comfortably.  I did get the apple pencil and like it. Found no need to get a keyboard for it as the onboard keyboard works fine for my needs. Overall I have to say I think the Pro is the best ipad they have come out with.

I just got the new Oberon case for the 6 plus and have to say it is really nice, looks and feels good on the phone. No bulk etc. Real pleased with both. The black dragon looks nice on the white face of the gold phone. I have the clear case since the beginning and while I liked it, the dragon really is classy.

If I were you I would hold off until this spring for a couple of reasons. One is the 12 inch ipad will be out and there is some discussion that it will do what you are looking for. Two the Surface comes out in May which means much better deals on the 3 will start coming after the first of the year.  That $100 off isn't that great of a deal. Also remember going to a windows op vs apple you will be subject to more problems not encountered with apple such as viruses etc.  I have a surface pro 2 as well as macbook pro and ipads as well as androids and I keep going back to apple in the long run for every day usage. It is a cleaner easier system.

I have the 11 inch 2011 air and like it. You definitely want to use a external hard drive with it. I just upgraded it to Yosemite and it works fine. In fact the flatter icons on Yosemite look better on the 11 inch screen. It is really lightweight and great to take with you when you want a bit more than the ipad can do for you. I have taken it and my ipad when I go to NE to do genealogy. I can put it in my scottevest pocket if I wish. There are times when I wish I would have gotten the 13 inch air instead but for what I use it for the 11 inch is good.  Having the retina 2012 mac book pro 15 inch, I can say the 11 inch is really small viewing if you are use to the larger screen especially since it isn't retina yet. I think when they come out with the retina air that will really make a difference.  I would check out the prices of the 2011 and see if it is a fair value for your guitar.

Mine has been acting up in a different way the past two days.  The carousel did not show and when I pressed on apps it said I had none, neither in the cloud nor the device.  I swiped down and saw something I'd watched on netflix a few days ago (not the most recent video that I've watched on this device).  I turned that on and it started, proving that I do have the netflix app.  I turned that off and played with it for a while and eventually the carousel came back.  It was on 77% charge and I started charging it, thinking that might help.  It's still charging now.

I had that happen to two separate fire 6s and returned both. The one that I am having a problem with now is #3. The first two were with offers and came from Best Buy. #3 is w/o offers and came from Amazon. My current problem doesn't show up everytime just seems to do it when I am out and want to use it. Sometimes it will act normal after I put it into sleep mode and reopen open it.

Thanks I have done both, resets and also factory restore. Doesn't seem to affect it. I thought maybe it was it was indexing everything as previous kindles did. I do have a large library but I have left it on for several hours so I would have thought that had taken care of it.

Is it just me or is my Fire 6 acting up? Periodically when I go to open it I will first see my book covers or the page I am reading then it goes to a blank screen with the white line crossing at the top under the status bar. It doesn't matter if it is connected to the wifi or not. The other day I took it with me while I waited at dr office. I turned it on expecting to continue reading (wifi was off). It opened to the page then went to the black screen with the white line moving across the top. I waited and waited and gave up after ten minutes. When I came home I opened it up and there was my page waiting to be read like nothing had happened.  Sometimes I need to go to the home screen and wait while it loads and then go back into the book section. I am using this as my library so I don't have any other apps, music, movies, etc loaded just books.

When this first began I figured it was indexing the downloaded books but now I am wondering if there is a problem or if anyone else has experienced the same thing?  Any thoughts on it? Am hoping it isn't defective.  Thanks

I ordered when you posted the deal. Interesting enough I have a ship date of Dec 17. Am wondering why the difference in ship dates, seems like they are all over the place.  Of course I don't why I need but hey, $19 can't go wrong.

The other question, doesn't chromecast plug into your computer? Will this do the same?

Apple devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod...) / Re: iCloud ?

I added how to find it on the mac.  If you still can't get rid of it I would contact apple support and explain the problem. If you erased your 4S before you turned it in you are okay that way.  I have had no problem with erasing and when I do it on either the mac or one of the idevices, it doesn't show up anywhere else.

Go into system preferences, then to icloud. At the bottom you will see how much storage you have use and how much is available. To the right is a box that says manage. Click on that, ten click on backups and delete the one you want. That will eliminate it.  If you go into settings on your iphone, tap on icloud then tap the manage storage. You will see every backup you have in the cloud. Just delete the backup you want.

If you go to the website, they have an article on the benchmarks for the ipads, iphones, etc. I would say based on those marks that people who are saying the air 2 is not an improvement need to rethink their thoughts. Looks to me like there is a large jump in performance.  Anyway I have mine ordered and am looking forward to getting it. I have the ipad mini 2 but am looking forward to the larger screen to play my jigsaw game and watch movies.

You can get around the paypal fees if you list it as a gift to family or friends rather than goods or services  and use a checking account rather than another credit card as the source.

I love my scottevest stuff of which I have several things. The only thing I don't like about the Explorer shirt is that it wrinkles really bad. The other one doesn't and it is nice as a jacket shirt over a t shirt for those times when you need something but not as heavy as a jacket. Sometimes the tropiformer gets too warm for me. I do like it better than the transformer one. Have the Revolution plus jacket got off ebay for really great price brand new but it hasn't been cold enough to wear it the last two years. Picked up an expedition jacket and quest vest off ebay as well. You can get some great deals on them much better than paying full price or even the 20% off deals they have.  So you can say I am a huge fan of scottevest. Great for going through TSA.

Watched a movie on the HD6 last night not bad. I plan on using my to hold my kindle library and use the ipad for movies and games. Best of both worlds!

There seem to be two camps regarding the new ipad air, one who feels it isn't a significant upgrade and those who feel it is.  It is thinner, weights a bit less, has a faster processor, different screen etc. In my elderly mind that makes it a worthwhile upgrade.  I am getting one because I miss the larger screen (have mini now) to do my jigsaw puzzle, watch movies, etc. Also am getting the gold one so it will match my iphone 6. ;) What can I say I am a apple kindle whore and am not getting any money or kisses for my loyalty!! ;D  Had a bunch of BB cert and a gift card to use so it helped justify getting one. At least that is the story I am sticking with!! Also got the fire HD 6 and have to say it has replaced my ipad mini to read at night with. It is the perfect size to take with me when I just want to read and don't want to carry anything larger. It fits nicely in my scottevest and is not as bulky as the other toys. Also will conserve my battery usage on the iphone. Plan on keeping it for awhile this time around so saving on the battery is important.

I ended up with the 6 128 gold rather than the 6 plus and find that the screen size works pretty good for my old eyes. I thought I wouldn't be happy until I got the 6 plus but BB gave me $40 more for my 5 than verizon would have and they had the 128 in stock. My biggest screen concerns were reading and playing a couple of my games. On the 5 the screen was just too small and I would get a headache after 4-5 minutes. With the 6 I am not having any problems at all. The best thing is that I didn't have to wait like I would have with the 6 plus.  Besides I can use the money I saved towards the new ipad! :D ;D That my excuse and I am sticking with it!!

I have not had any problems with any idevices. Having said that I don't use a lot of the apps like alot of people do and that may have a bearing on my problem free status. However if you don't feel the need to update right now I would wait. ;D There are two or three major updates for iOS8 coming up which I am sure will fix many of the problems. Either that or it will create new ones!  Some of them are directly related to Yosemite which is scheduled for release later this month.  The other thing is you can always hold out and get a new Air!!! ;D

iphone 5 and ipad mini retina and the air.  This applies to all devices except iphone 4s and ipad 2 which Apple does not recommend installing iOS8 due to issues with those two devices even though they are at the bottom of the upgradable ones.

Make sure you download all app updates prior to downloading iOS8. Most apps have issued updates to fix bugs or compatibility issues associated with iOS8.   If you do that and also backup your device first then you shouldn't have any problems with iOS8. iOS 8.02 update will fix alot of the problems, not all but quite a few.  I have not had any problems at all with iOS8. Then again it does depend on how you use your idevice.

Upgrading the 4s and the ipad 2 to iOS8 is not recommended due to performance issues etc according to Apple. Newer idevices are not as affected.  Also once you updated you do need to go back into the settings and make sure your settings have not changed.  For example, bluetooth is always turned on after every update even if you have it turned off. There are several settings that you need to check to help with battery drain etc.

I think you are right. Bezos and Jobs are alike in that they don't really care what their customers want, they do what they want. I liked the user removable battery and the sd card slot on the first kindle as did many and those were the first things eliminated on the 2nd version.  Why none of the amazon devices, fire, kindle etc don't have more memory is beyond me. They all push the cloud thing over everything else which is not always the best solution for everyone. At this point I would like to beable to download all of my ebook library to my devices because I am noticing that a lot of my titles are coming up with either the "Out of Print" on the cover or they are simply not in the library anymore or have been replaced by other books but using the same ASIN number. These happened after the last publishing wars when so many books were pulled for awhile and then came back with higher prices and different numbers.  Now I really having to watch because a lot of my books are not showing that I have already purchased them and so I end up with duplicates.   Okay now I getting down slowly off my soap box and return to reading my books!

Looks promising but the reviews on Amazon show some real limitations, os is not current, letters are not dark and some hiccups that would make me question the value considering the price.  I like the higher resolution and the sd card slot but not sure it is worth the price at this point.  It will be interesting to see what the next gen kindles will bring to the table.

So how are the reusable cups different from the one you get with the keurig? I haven't use it yet so am curious. When I decided that I wanted a Keurig, had gone to Costco and they had a discount on it that ended that day. So picked one up for $119 and was really pleased with myself ;D  Am on my second Platinum Keurig from Costco since the first one, after a month, just died. Nothing worked to revive it.  I love the english breakfast tea  hot chocolate and haven't really tried to find a coffee that I like yet. I don't like the bitter strong ones so will sample some others. I like a mild one. Have dunkin donut bag of coffee so may try the little basket that came with the machine.
