Not Quite Kindle / Re: I cut the cord OMG I cut the cord

So moving into a house has gotten me into gear to try this. Our triple play thingie bill with uverse has now reached 300 bucks. Yep, that is right, 300 american dollars. It just kept going up. Promos ended and all that. That is for internet, TV and phone. So I started just internet with Spectrum at the house. Uverse gave us a whopping 24 download in the apartment, we get up to 400 with spectrum. Then I signed up for youtubeTV for $40 to get locals and a bunch of other stuff. When we get closer to moving I'll get Ooma and move our home phone over to that for $5.5 a month of taxes.

If I feel still frisky I'll add PhiloTV to get the history channel and hallmark and other stuff youtubeTV doesn't have for another $16.

This will bring down the cost quite a bit. As far as premium channels go like HBO and starz, I will get them as I need them. One at a time via prime video. I already have that and netflix and hulu. I will cancel one of those, probably hulu.

After that no more worrying about the home phone number and being locked into a deal with a cable company. We didn't have much of a choice where we lived, still live for now. Not much choice at the new house either really, its ATT or Spectrum. I am waiting for google fiber to come closer.

We been testing YoutubeTV out at the house and here still at the apartment. We aren't moved yet. Its working really flawless and even tennis looks good. Tennis is always my test with streaming. Wee ball going really fast and all that.

They did have to bury a orange cable in my new backyard. Looks a bit like garbage right now but its been raining.

I did this cold turkey after thinking about it for a while. But I couldn't really do much while still in this apartment dead spot.

Oh, unlimited DVR recordings with YoutubeTV. And no more paying an extra fee for a 2nd box from the cable company. We just put Roku's on the TV's.

Did you make the leap to YouTubetv? How do you like it? We are thinking of making the same jump since cable is getting so out of hand with prices. How is the dvr part working for you? I definitely want a dvr since that's how we end up watching most of our shows.

Thanks, everyone! Checking out my options. I love all the choices out there, but find myself going back to the Keurig for ease and lots of options to fit our household.

« on: November 07, 2017, 12:08:44 pm »
I currently have a Keurig and I've had it for years. They had to replace my first one within the first year, but this machine has lasted for many years and I'm starting to have problems. I've started searching & reading reviews and of course, they are mixed for every machine. There is a BUNN that is supposed to be good. Anyone own that? Thoughts?

There are many different Keurigs out there and it seems a lot of stores have their own model.  Trying to decide if I want to go the Keurig route again or try another. They seem to have a lot of options that are nice, but quality seems to be an issue. I see Sam's Club has a Keurig that comes with a reusable Kcup. I don't see others with that. Can all of the newer 2.0 versions use a reusable kcup? That is basically all we use here. I very rarely actually buy the kcups.

What do you think is the best single serve coffee machine?

Not Quite Kindle / Re: Need help with HP printers going offline constantly
« on: November 06, 2017, 06:42:37 pm »
We finally got it figured out after much frustration and trying things. When we changed to WPA2 it caused our router to want to keep changing "channels" and every time it changed channels it would kick the printers offline, which was very often. Once we changed the setting to not change channels, they stayed online! Yay! We changed it a couple weeks ago and they are still online with no problems, thank goodness!

I don't know if that will solve anyone else's problem with the printers, but wanted to post what we did in case it would happen to help someone else.

Thank you! I did see this way but it isn't how I've done it in the past so I was looking for that way and going crazy! There used to be a way to import them all from another device which was easier than one by one, but I guess if that's what they've changed it to, then that's what I'll do. Thanks for your answer!

Help! I can't find where to import collections from my original Oasis to my new Oasis! I know it's simple, but I'm going crazy trying to find where that is! I don't remember where it is and my searches are not coming up with anything helpful. I remember seeing a place where I could choose from what device I wanted to copy them from in the past, but my brain is just not helping me today!

Got mine about an hour ago. I love the tan leather cover. It is suede-like but I love that! I have the Walnut one from last year and was hoping it would be like that one. All I've done so far is get it up and running and set up a few things. I am loving this larger screen!

Isn't there a way to copy your collections from another kindle? I know I did this before but I can't find how to do that now. The dreaded part of a new kindle...setting everything up again and getting the books on it.

Not Quite Kindle / Need help with HP printers going offline constantly
« on: October 19, 2017, 04:53:28 pm »
Recently we changed our router from WEP to WPA2 security and ever since we've had problems with our printers. We have 2 HP printers and they constantly go "offline" or are in "error" status. The only way we can get them back online is to reboot the router and that's just crazy. We have walked thru the HP support troubleshooting and have tweaked just about everything that's been suggested. Each printer has their own IP static address assigned to it so that's not the problem. I know there are many possibilities as to why they go offline, but I'm hoping someone has a piece of advice I haven't heard yet, as nothing else has worked! We are so frustrated at this point that I'm surprised I have any hair left.

If you've had a similar problem or any idea what the problem could be, please share! Any ideas are appreciated!!

The Book Corner / Re: Okay, so who does audiobooks?
« on: December 09, 2016, 11:03:48 am »
I love audiobooks. I love reading on my kindle as well, but some days it just doesn't happen much. I can listen to audiobooks while getting ready in the morning or while doing boring tasks around the house. I especially like to listen to them if I am knitting, as others have mentioned. I feel that I am getting so much done if I can knit and "read" a book at the same time! :)  Sometimes I am just too tired to read, so the audiobooks are great for that. For the most part I feel like the audio version can really bring the book to life if it has good narrator(s).

I like to get the kindle book from the library and then buy the audible version (usually for a very cheap price) and switch between the versions, depending on what I am doing that day. i can get through the book much faster that way.

Oops, I'm a little late to the party, but I'd like to join again! Geoffrey, can you just use my link from the previous round?  Thanks!

I upgraded to the Oasis recently so I no longer have a use for these Paperwhite leather covers. They are from Amazon and gently used but in good condition. I see nothing wrong with the pink one at all. The purple one has a few scuff marks on the spine and a couple small ones on the front. It also has a tiny spot of glitter on the back. I will sell the pink one for $25 plus actual shipping cost. I will sell the purple one for $20 plus actual shipping cost  I prefer to receive an Amazon gift card as payment to avoid paypal fees. PM if you're interested or have any questions.

I feel your pain, Atunah!! My daughter and I were just talking about it earlier today. We are so sad to see the magazine no longer in print. I also loved that it was something I could read through and enjoy without being attached to a computer! I also hate reading magazines online...just doesn't work for me. Just feels wrong. I have also been to their website in the past and I felt like you...not sure where to go to see what I wanted and got off on a tangent before finding it. I normally wasn't there very long before I just left. Really sad that it's the only way now to see the info. Now it's no different than going to Amazon or elsewhere to read reviews online. There are so many crappy magazines still being published out there that I can't believe they couldn't find a way to make it work. I feel like I am on my computer a ton already, so reading a magazine on it just doesn't appeal to me.

Thanks to Sharing the Settlement love!!!  Looks like you've been busy sharing a lot! I can't wait to get back to these books.

Wow!  $224 and it was a big surprise. I saw a notice on facebook in a book club I am in and went to check my balance. I about fell over as I was expecting a smaller sum based on what people were saying about theirs in the book club. Then I knew I had to come here and get the scoop...and to make me feel better about about my book buying! I was afraid to say my balance in the book club, but I knew I'd feel at home here. ;D

Just got to thinking...they may have spent a lot on books too, but a lot of them read paper books so their gift card balances were not as impressive probably for that reason.

I've had mine for over a month and have to say I love just about everything about the Oasis. I love having the buttons back and being able to switch hands and keep reading. I find myself doing that a lot depending on how I am sitting or laying, and it is so seemless to flip and keep going. I haven't written down when I charge the battery, but it does seem like I am charging it every 4-5 days, which is more than my Voyage. Not a big deal since I can just plug it in at night anyway, but not sure it's an improvement for me. I do miss the adaptive light feature though. If I had one thing I could change on the Oasis, I would ask for that back. Otherwise, I find it easy to hold and love the size and weight. The Oasis is very much a step up from the Voyage, for me. I've loved all of my kindles, but this has to be my favorite I think.

That was the problem. I wasn't seeing understanding it was the 2nd drop down. I was choosing Collections from the first drop down. Thank you. It was driving me crazy.

Yep, I read it like you did. Sounded like the first drop down should be collections, but instead it's "all" and the 2nd one is "collections". Mystery solved...frustrations over!

Tried that. When I choose Collection it only shows the collection with the books in the collection, but not the books not in the collections. I have 26 pages of books and over half are not associated with a collection. Once change it to collection none of the books show that aren't in a collection.

Ditto. The only way I can see the books that are not in a collection is to change the middle drop down to "books" or "all items". This is not how it worked on my Voyage. I do not want to have to switch that drop down all the time to see the books not in a collection. Is this a change they made with the updated software? If so, this is disappointing.

I know I'm going to feel really stupid after I get this answer, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out right now. I have just downloaded some books from Amazon to my current Oasis. Now I cannot find them.  I have it set to see collections by title. It used to be that any books downloaded that weren't in a collection already would show up at the end of the collections. I could then find them there and put into a collection. However, nothing shows up now after my collections. The books I want do not show as any of the 3 main books pictured on the home page and they don't show up at the end of collections, so where did they go? I know I can probably search and find them, but I don't want to have to do that for every book I download. Help!

How long does the trade-in kindle usually stay in processing after Amazon receives it? I guess I am a little anxious.

Mine was in processing for 2+ days. On the morning of the 3rd day I got an email saying the gift card was in my account.
