Anything Else Amazon / Re: Thinking about letting my Prime lapse
« on: April 02, 2015, 09:11:18 am »
I sure absolutely positively no desire to cancel my prime membership... It is just to darn convenient to me...  I do read almost every evening sand when I watching  TV even with cable there are some nights that nothing interesting is I use the Fire Tv to view Prime Video or Netflix

Just this morning I fed the fish in our small indoor pond and realized I will soon have to start feeding the fish in our outdoor ponds so I pulled out my phone and ordered a 5 pound bucket of fish food .... quick easy I'll have it in 2 days with no spending time driving to the store save on gasoline as well as  the cost of the other Item I walked out of the store  with...      I also used my Amazon Points to pay for the darn bucket so In the end I did not pay a cent ...

Free cloud storage for all my pictures, is a plus for me...and although I do not listen to music prime music is nice to have  so I can listen to music on my Tablet as I read out pool side in the summer...

To me the Prime membership price is a major bargain

I'll have to check to see what the actual books were..  BUT I was on WiFi ....

Still scratching my head   ????

Anything Else Amazon / Re: (OT) Fire TV
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:44:23 am »
I do own a Chromecast. A Roku Stick, as well as the Kindle Fire TV....    The Fire TV works pretty easy BUT in all honestly I much prefer the Chromecast  EXCEPT that it will not allow me to watch prime videos.. serious problem...

Only drawback to the Fire TV that bugs me is that the voice search always seems to only look on amazon never on Netflix etc to match what I am looking for... no real big deal however...   The Roku just does not cut it...

Fire Talk / Re: Original Kindle Fire (love)
« on: November 28, 2013, 09:02:08 am »
I just posted in another thread that I to have an original Kindle fire.,..

BUT I also own an iPad4

The reason for this my post is that I find myself using the Kindle fire the majority of the time ..   The larger iPad is just tooooo big to even use as a reader, and  it does not function all that better then the Kindle for short sessions using the the web...

NO WAY would I even think about buying another larger tablet... The mini iPad "may" have replaced my Kindle ...MAY HAVE

Fire Talk / Re: Original Kindle Fire to be $79 at Staples on Friday
« on: November 28, 2013, 08:52:58 am »
Yes I have to agree that its 2 years old technology...

BUT I own an original Kindle Fire as well as an iPad 4 ...  and guess which one I use the most...

Drum roll >>>>>>>>>>>>>  The Kindle

100 percent of my reading is done with the Kindle mostly because of its smaller and much easier to hold size but non the less it does the job even when  I need to check the web for a piece of information I need now! ...

I also agree with your comment on shopping way will I even think about doing that "task"... Heck even CVS is too large a store for me... Now the Liquor store is small enough so its a possibility lol

Fire Talk / Re: Fire HD vs HD 8.9
« on: March 18, 2013, 07:27:42 am »
My son (an adult) now has possession of my 8.9 and I kept my originality 1st generation  fire...

The larger one was not nearly as convenient (for me)  to carry with me ...
and I honestly did not like reading a book (old paperback guy) on the larger screen... I really do not do much web surfing on a table so the larger screen just did not do it for me...

Quick... easy ... and fast web surfing is now handled by my Acer Chrome book...for the most part

Fire Talk / Re: Just Purchased Orignal Kindle Fire on the Bay
« on: March 01, 2013, 06:41:38 am »
I'm a little Leary e about Audio books when purchased off ot Amazon... Perhaps I'm just not paying attention when I purchase a audio book...because of the 3 I though I was purchasing only one was in fact an audio book...
Using Audiobooks website I always get what I want...

I find the Radio apps ( TUNE IN RADIO) extremely useful since I NEED to listen to something when I go to bed..and since CSpan is not available for the Kindle I can still listen to CSpan history lectures and their Q&A programs via TUNE IN set a timer to turn the darn kindle off at whatever time I want ..It also allows me to listen to just about any "radio station" I want to no matter where I happen to be in the country ..Talk music whatever ...

I purchased mine when they first hit the market (had to wait until they were released...and I still enjoy watching
some the the videos Documentaries specially Ken Burns ones (free for the most part if you are a prime member)
After over a year I'm still satisfied only gripe is the sound. is not as good as the Fire HD I purchased for my wife

Bob G..

Inside especially at night I use the fire...
Outside I ALWAYS use my regular kindle...

Whats interesting to me is that I hardly ever use the Fire for anything except reading I make very very little use of it as a Android Tablet...

Fire Talk / Re: Buying wife's Fire--questions........
« on: October 01, 2012, 10:11:12 am »
My wife and I share a Prime membership just RENAMED our individual kindles on the Amazon web site under Manage your Kindle

1. Orig Bob
2. Orig Barbara
3. Bobs Fire
4. Barbara Fire...

all 4 Kindles have the same content in the Book archives and the 2 fires have the same content in the Cloud..iOur individual kindles only have our own personal apps and books installed ..

When I order a book I have it downloaded to my Kindle ...but my wife can retrieve it from the cloud and install it on her etc..

To be honest both my wife and I now read on the fires...  rarely do we use our Original Kindles ..which came as a surprise to both of us...

Kindle Fire HD reviews / Re: Fire HD 7" - First Impressions
« on: September 20, 2012, 06:36:02 am »
I purchase a new fD Fire for my wife as a gift and it arrived yesterday...Only messed with it for a few hours BUt I like it a heck of a lot more then my original FIRE..especially the SOUND..

So far I sure miss the little gear icon on top..and I have not yet figured out how to get out of some apps BUT that will be her problem....(lol) I also miss the GREEN charging light..ALLOT !

Anyway I put a battery App on it and while the App  does work..t starts up with a message  that I DO NOT OWN the APP... (?????)   has a box that says to see details press here..but that does nothing..

Anyway my initial reaction is that the HD is VERY MUCH a better device then my original.. I may be trading my original Fire in for a HD...

Fire Talk / Re: Man's Kindle Fire Portability Question
« on: September 06, 2012, 01:05:06 pm »
I purchased my fire because IT WOULD FIT IN ONE OF MY FRONT POCKETS of my dress pants. or in a lot of pockets in my cargo pants..

Seriously with the Malware or whatever the case name really is I have no problem sticking it in my pocket and driving to a doctors office etc..

Fire Talk / Re: Progress bar ?
« on: August 08, 2012, 09:03:26 am »
I noticed this a few months ago...I have the Kindle ap on my phone and own a Kindle keyboard inaddition to my Fire...

When I sync (I did have some issues syncing at first) ..when I switched from the fire to either the phone or my Kindle I would always come right back to where I last was reading BUT in every case the Progress bar was different on all 3 devices...

The Phone always showed I had more to read then the Fire...BUT both were  less then the regular Kindle..

I originally though that the difference was because the page size and font size differed but now that makes no sense...

Oh well..  I'm not going to worry about it. lol

Fire Talk / Re: Took my Fire to Europe
« on: July 20, 2012, 05:00:55 am »
Well You don;t have to travel to Europe to discover the glare issue is real when sitting in the sunlight...I like to sit poolside with a drink after dinner and read.. BUT I leave my Fire in the house and use my old keyboard Kindle now...

After I finally figured out how to force each to sync I'm good to go...

Fire Talk / Re: App for finding new books
« on: July 13, 2012, 12:28:06 pm »
I loaded this 99 cent app on my Evo 4g Phone...and it keeps giving me an error message that it can not search...
so I deleted the app and received my refund..

BUT ..that honestly is a shame as it looks like it would be perfect for me to keep a list of my favorite authors and see what (and hopefully when) they put out another book...

Bob G.

Forcing the sync on either of my 3 devices seems to have solved my all three came up showing the last page I had read...

The only problem (and it is not a big deal) is that the phone actually  uses a page number and  not a location as the fire and the keyboard kindle do ... I actually like that (page number) much much  much better then a location number wish the fire and my regular kindle did that...

Bob G

No interest in a phone is good enough for that
Definitely do not want a larger screen then a 7 inch one..

Now open the Fire 2 to use a straight Android system and not as restricted as the original Fire and for that reason alone I would upgrade...

Bob G

Thank you Ann....

I;ll try that

Bob G.

due to the heat (and loss of power) I have been spending a lot of time outside by the pool and much prefer the regular kindle for reading in the sunlight....BUT when I switch from the kindle to the Fire or between the fire and the kindle I find that my sync function is NOT working as it should...

I always run the Kindle with 3G turned on..and i always run the fire with the WiFi on.. it does work occasionally one out of 10 times ...

Another problem with my Android Cell Phone (EVO 4G) I can't access my archives via the kindle app itself...

Anyone one have any clues or reasons for these problems...

Fire Talk / Re: HBO GO to come to Kindle Fire June 10?
« on: May 17, 2012, 06:03:25 am »
Interesting... I do subscribe to HBO via cable BUT to be honest I was seriously thinking of cancelling it mainly because nobody in our house can remember the last time they  watched something on HBO...

But a quick read of one post after goggling HBO GO i see I can view past as well as current offerings  shows, movies, documentaries etc ..maybe I'll give it a try on my fire BEFORE I cancel HBO from my cable company

Bob G

I do own an Android smart phone..EVO 4 G as well as a Fire...

Fire lacks of course the camera and the GPS of the phone which I do not use anyway on the phone except I can get local weather via the GPS when traveling with the phone..I;d have to manually set my location to do that with the weather app I have on my fire...

Screen size difference is huge ..reading a kindle book on the phone is doable but not quite as easy on the eyes
Plus  the phone can supply a wifi signal to the fire  if I am out of range of a wifi signal.. and need one for the fire...

Personally I could not "survive"  without either of them..and both of them easily fit into my pockets so they are both truly  mobile devices..

Fire Talk / Re: Kindle Fire plugged in overnight?
« on: April 09, 2012, 12:32:08 pm »
I leave my Fire turned on (wifi connected ) and plugged into the charger 24/7 when not in use and in the 4 months or so that I have owned it i have had absolutely no problems what so ever...

Fire Talk / Re: Software Update to 6.3 Coming
« on: March 29, 2012, 07:16:45 am »
I've been out of WiFi range all day . . . but will leave the Fire plugged in over night. . . . .

I always leave the Wifi turned on 24/7 and as of  this morning Thursday the 29 still have not received it...
No big deal but it does make me waste 5 seconds checking   lol

Fire Talk / Re: ZDNet article about a larger Fire..
« on: March 27, 2012, 04:01:38 pm »
Gheeze for $200.00 the warranty should not be of any major concern.... since I paid an additional 79 buckeroos for prime membership I'm willing to say I have already saved well over a $100 in shipping charges alone ..

I have absolutely ZERO Games on my fire but I still would like an SC card..and boy would I love it if I could
download any standard Android app  ...  The Android Market ( now Google Play or something like that is a royal pain to use when compared to Amazons app store...

Bottom line I love the size my only complaint is that I have to be careful when reading a book as my thumbs may advance (or turn back my page by 10 or more and I have a devil of a time finding my place again.  I wish it had buttons liker my keyboard kindle...

Fire Talk / Re: Fire is a lousy e-reeder my opinion
« on: March 22, 2012, 04:30:25 pm »
My son owns an iPad..and to be frank it too has a lot of glare when used under bright better however then my fire...

IF I want to read outdoors on in the daylight hours in the sun room in the house I too will use my Kindle keyboard ..  like you said much easier on the old eyeballs...unless the room is onthe dark side

But in the evening I'll use my Fire every time..its a pleasure to use...

I fully expect to use my Keyboard Kindkle poolside this summer not the fire..
