Those are nice cases! I would get the one for the Fire HD 7", since I'll be getting one of those for my son for his birthday this summer. Probably the blue interior.

I am looking forward to reading Stephen King's newest book once it arrives (his are about the only non-electronic books we read anymore, because we have the entire collection of his books).

(Hope I'm doing this right. Sorry if you've seen a lot of these before, I haven't been here in awhile.)

I don't know anything about this book but it looks interesting.

This looks like a children's book.  Again, I know nothing about it but it might be a good one.

Children's book.

Looks good.  Decent reviews.

Thanks!  So far so good. At least it is remembering my logins. Now I have to figure out how to add it to my favorites.  I created a shortcut in ES3 but can't remember what to do next. Oh well, it keeps my mind sharp to challenge myself with new technology.   ;D

Thanks again.

I didn't know I could get Chrome for it.  Do I need to create an account with Google to use it? I will look for it on that 1 Mobile Marketplace now.

Fire Talk / problems with Dolphin
« on: June 05, 2013, 05:20:06 am »
Has anybody else had problems lately with Dolphin?  Starting Monday, I realized it was not keeping track of logins to places like Kindleboards, where I've checked the box that says "stay logged in forever".  Believe me, it was a hassle trying to remember some of those passwords!

So I updated to the latest version of Dolphin, but it's still happening. I checked all the settings I could find, but I didn't see anything that would help. So frustrating!  It is also crashing a lot more than usual.  Silk crashed all the time too, so I'd rather not go back to using that, but at least it remembers my login info.

What a great story.  Scary, but with a happy ending.   :)  Very nice of you to give Ms. Gomez a thank you gift.  Congrats on getting your Kindle back safe and sound!

Fire Talk / Re: Order of items on Fire HD's Carousel

Toby and MINImum, which specific models do you have?

KF HD 8.9

Since we have two KFs on one account, I'm wondering if the things that are showing up randomly at the front of my carousel are actually things my husband is accessing?  I know when I download something new it shows up on the front of my husband's carousel.  Perhaps the same is true of items merely accessed?

Mine are the same way.  There appears to be no rhyme or reason as to how the carousel is sorted.

Fire Talk / Re: New Kindle Fire HD Camera (only front?)
« on: March 02, 2013, 07:51:47 pm »
I thought it weird, too, that it only faced front.  I really can only take pictures of myself since I'm a bit uncoordinated (and lovely pictures they are, too; the angle is usually perfect for getting all my chins in each shot, even the ones I didn't know I had).

But it's not a deal breaker at all, I didn't even know it had a camera when I bought it.

Fire Talk / Re: Kindle Special Offers (HD Fire) -- $5 account credit

Thanks for posting this! I just watched it and got the credit. Someone at the beginning of the preview had a tablet, could have been a Kindle.  :) Looks like a good show, too.

omg, that worked! Thank you so much!!! If you were here I would bake you some cupcakes because I'm so grateful!  ;D

I sent an email to Yahoo about this but I haven't heard back yet and thought I'd see if anyone here is suddenly having this issue too.

Starting this morning I cannot send emails with my Yahoo accounts on my Kindle (I use the native email app on the Kindle). I can receive Yahoo emails but not send them. I can send and receive Yahoo emails from other devices. I can send and receive emails on the Kindle using my gmail account.

I reset the modem. I powered off the Kindle and tried again. Nothing worked so I deleted the two ymail accounts to start over. Now, I can't even add my accounts back on my Kindle! I get an error saying "unable to safely connect to the server".

Any suggestions, other than wait for help from Yahoo?

Since you have such specific requirements you may want to get one custom made. Do you have any acquaintances who sew? If not, maybe you can find someone on etsy who will help you.

Never mind, I found it and it worked just like you said it would.

Dolphin doesn't show up in my normal list of apps so I have to open ES first to open it. Kind of a pain.

Also, the 1Mobile site is a little weird. Not the greatest grammar and then one part of the marketplace app is all in Chinese or something. Is it safe to use this site? I am ultra paranoid about that sort of thing. I am used to Apple products and feel reasonably safe usually, but not sure with Android.

Betsy, what is ES File Explorer? Can I get it from the normal Amazon app store?

Reiterating: Chrome browser downloaded easily from 1Mobile (assuming 'unknown sources' are allowed) and loaded and works fine.

Nope, just tried to install one of the Chrome browsers they offer (it's hard to tell which one I need) and it still gives me a popup that I need to download 1mobile marketplace, and when I do and go to click on it in my downloads list, it says cannot open file.

I get the feeling I don't know what I'm doing so I may give up for awhile and try again some other time. :-(

I didn't know I had to do that but I just did it after reading your post (it said unknown parties instead of third parties) but it still didn't work. I restarted the Kindle and tried again, still says cannot open file. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? After I hit "download" (or "install") on the website, I go to my downloads then click on it.

Wow,I read to get lost in the story. There are times when I don't even know what I'm reading it on. How silly of that journalist, especially as someone pointed out there are probably more people reading her column online than on paper.

Okay, I found the 1mobile website and tried to download Dolphin. First it asked me to login to Google, which I did. Then I tried to install Dolphin but it gave me a popup screen with an option to download the 1mobile marketplace app. I clicked to download it, went to it in my download folder and clicked on it and I got an error saying "cannot open file". What am I doing wrong?

Hi! Me again with another question. I tried to search for the answer here first but couldn't find it.

Can I organize my browser bookmarks into folders?

Fire Talk / Re: Typing on the Fire

??? ???    Can someone explain how to swype? I tried it on my HD7 and can't seem to get it to work right (I know it's me and not the HD). Do I press or tap the first letter? Then do I just drag to the next letter and hold for a second then on to the next? I see the orange line when I try this, but like when I press on the letter "e", I get a popup with variations on that letter (accented, unaccented, the number 3 etc.). When I slide to the next letter it seems to register several of the letters I've slid over. Yikes!  :o

If you are getting a pop-up for alternate letters or variations, you may be holding your finger on the letter too long. Just touch the letter then move to the next letter, etc.

Then again, obviously I am no expert. I had to experiment a little to see how it worked. It's much faster for me to just type normally.

I'm not sure if it's every punctuation mark, as I haven't actually tried them all. But I just tried your two tricks and they work great! Look at all the contractions I'm using and I haven't had to fix a single one. And sliding from the period to the spacebar is wonderful, though it doesn't capitalize the next letter for me. Thanks so much!

Off to go read more of your tips.  ;D
