I think doubling up on "nuclear" takes away from it.

I agree with this.

And it might just be me, but "She Vowed Nuclear Revenge" sounds clunky. I would just leave it at She Vowed Revenge.

A Google search for "Author UpROAR"  (with the quotes which is a search operator) returns 2 pages! And that's pretty much their social media pages. So apparently no one is talking about them--or using them and singing their praises.

That's a lovely site. I have the same black background with white lettering and sometimes I worry that it may be hard for some people to read - have you ever found that?

You should worry about it. People with astigmatism can't read white on black. I'm one of them, and it literally hurts my eyes. So when I land on a site that feels this is a good design choice, I immediately leave.

Note I said it's a design choice. No one is going to tell you you can't do it. But nearly 50% of people have astigmatism, so driving that many people away from your site probably isn't a smart marketing choice.

My download links are greyed out too, but I do have access to all lifetime invoices. If you open the invoice you can do a screenshot since there is no print option. That seems to be the only thing to do.

I would just leave things as is. Anyone who wants to read your book and is bothered by DRM will just strip it anyway.

Hmm. By the looks of it, I can buy a US phone number on my Skype account for only a fiver.

It's tempting to pull the trigger on that in order to resolve this quickly.

May that fiver be returned to you many, many times over during your BB!

Glad someone had a usable suggestion for you.  ;D

Yeah, and at the last step it says you need a US phone number, haha

Seriously?

My apologies, then. I'm in Canada, and that's the process I use to contact them. I just assumed it worked for everyone listed in the pull-down menu.

And annoyingly it won't let you phone KDP from the UK,

Are you following the buried, round-about way to connect with them?

Go to the KDP help page

>Contact us
>How Can we Help
>Pricing
>Price Matching
>Phone/call us
>UK
>Call me in 5

How do I do this?

Save your Word doc as a PDF, and then upload it.

Is the link maker not working for everyone or just me?

It's not just you. It hasn't worked for ages, just like the signature tool.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Next 100 - Top 200?
« on: June 08, 2020, 12:47:32 pm »

Use the search bar to narrow to your cat then input square brackets. Nothing else.

This will not give you a true sequential 1 - 200 because you can only sort by whatever Amazon has "featured." However, most of the bestsellers will show up on the first pages of the results, so it's a guideline at least.

That's the entire kindle store, but you can do this with any cat and sub-cat.

That happened to my wholesome title "I love Cooking, Dogs and Grandma" because I forgot the comma.

Did they suspend the account because of the comma?  :o :o :o

Read the title again without the comma. Then realize she is joking.

There have been a few threads on this lately. I think the tool is broken. I do remember reading a post by Becca saying she'd look at it, but I don't think she got anywhere.

Amazon was down for a while yesterday. Perhaps they lost cookies with a reboot and don't recognize you.

And are you using 2 factor authentication? If not, I would start. Everyone should be using it.

No. But I did read an article today that said they were starting to put back all measures they'd taken away, trying to throttle buying. All the look at this and buy that they took down. If they're putting their advertising back, it's a great time to play around and split test. And I did see an ad pop up in my Google feed today for Audible.

Check your privacy settings. Have you told Google not to index your page?

Secondly, how long ago did you create the page, and does anything, even your first page, link to it? Google needs time to index it. I don't know if they automatically crawl every new FB page that's made, so they might need some sort of social signal in order to find it and crawl it.

So you come and ask for info and then want us to prove it's true? Amazon has the info buried somewhere in their help pages. I've read it.

I've also read that there is no guarantee they will indeed push your update. There is no guarantee there will be a notification in a buyer's library telling them there is one available. If you have no notification and you have updated, you know this is true.

Pushing an update is entirely up to their discretion, and they tell you so. If you need proof of that you'll have to find it in their help pages.

I'm Canadian and buy from from the US store. It took forever for Kindle to make it to Canada so two things happened. People went with the US store and just stayed there despite Amazon pestering us to move our libraries. Or, more likely, readers said screw Amazon and went with Kobo, which was the homegrown option. And even though Kobo was eventually sold, they have a huge foothold here.

I meant Kindle Unlimited, not KDP. As far as I can tell it's much more effective to spread your ebooks over as many platforms as possible.

That depends. What's your genre? KU is extremely powerful and there many people making 6 or 7 figures using it--and some of them are right here in this thread.

There is no one size fits all. You have to study your own market and research the industry. Some of us have some series in KU because that's where they will do best, but have other series or stand alones on other platforms.

If you've been doing this a while this is probably not it since it would be obvious to check, but I've freaked myself out with this before.

Have you checked your date range? Unless AMS is broken for some, that's all I can think of. My data is still there.

Writers' Cafe / Re: KDP Publishing Delays
« on: May 03, 2020, 06:58:55 am »
A lot of us have had simple updates take about 10 days in the past. You never really know what they have going on that slows things down.

KDP has a new lead as of a month or so ago, so maybe changes are being made. Or maybe now it's not just everyone and their brother publishing a book. With so many people out of work, I bet there are a whole lot of people falling for the "you can write some crap and make a bunch of cash" scams. Which just creates a bigger backlog. Or, as you suggest, maybe a lot of the team is sick. Even too sick to be working from home, as many of them do already, I believe.

Basically, we have no idea why things are running behind.

I don't have much any faith in this sock puppet who is singing their praises.  ::)

Check the eligibility requirements. That's your answer.

Can u share your experience?

The question was posed two years ago, so their experience back then would be completely irrelevant today. Especially in a today where many are wondering how bad things are going to get for print books.

You would be better off keeping an eye on the market for print before taking this a step further.
