Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle worth it???
« on: October 19, 2019, 08:32:13 am »
I used to read in kindle. I had paperwhite (2) and oasis. However since last 1 month, I started using iPad Air for my needs reading lot of journal in pdf. I found that I almost forgot reading in kindle anymore. The screen in iPad had been equivalent comfortably compared to kindle. this might be subjective.
Now, mostly I bring iPad everywhere, reading using kindle app. I didnít install any games, social media, chat, etc to avoid distractions.

Anyone tried to read pdf files (journal / paper) in the new O3 (or O2)? I only have Paperwhite and O1. Reading pdf is definitely too small for my eyes.

I have white PW3 and yes it's better than the black one. This one reason keep me from buying PW4 (which still has no white version).

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle batteries: Are there any do's and don'ts?
« on: December 21, 2018, 06:28:33 am »
They're just basic do & donts for lithium, i.e:
- don't let battery empty for long time
- don't charge it overnight (full state in long time)
- avoid from heat, especially don't store it in car (as mostly car cabin's temp can be quite high)
- do keep battery around 20%-90%
- do store in cool temp

I read in other forum, there is flickering issue after applying this update. Not sure, but I will wait until the issue has confirmed and resolved.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Buying new Oasis - what do you expect?
« on: November 08, 2017, 06:03:12 am »

I owned the 1st gen Oasis. For you who has bought or decided to buy the new KO2, what do you feel or expect the benefit of KO2 compared to the old one?

I have no complaint whatsover with the old one though.

I used to sleep or work while my kindle is being charged. lol I also sometimes read on my phone or tablet while my kindle is being charged.

I have been about 2 weeks with 5.8.10 firmware. It might be very subjective, but I do see it is faster than I tested in Oasis and PW3, but extensively use in Oasis. Typing the passcode, opening the book, changing page, bookmarking, opening goodreaderd and amazon store. I had 2 book containing arabic with latin fonts. Both are quite thicks. Previously I have to delete one of them to speed up the indexing process. After the 1st one completed, I added the 2nd one. If I used this method, total indexing process will took about 20 minutes. While if I sideloaded both together it may take 5-6 hours to complete. This new firmware can do only around 30 minutes when I sideloaded both together. Again, this is only my personal impression. Yours can be different.

I think the basic answer is because of e-ink technology, which still much slower compared to LED used in smartphone. It's not acceptable to play games from customer experience.
::) >:(  Why doesn't Kindle allow basic interactive games, such as solitare, are jewels?  So disappointed that I paid more, to get less.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Oasis Battery Life--Without Cover
« on: May 16, 2017, 07:59:44 am »
I also seldom use Oasis case-less. It just feel less stable, less sturdy and slippery holding it without cover. Also, I prefer to use black cover than the brown one, as the black one is lighter which feels more compact when holding it.

I rarely read long enough at a stretch to deplete the Oasis' battery cover-less.  And I would put it down, back into the cover, at which point it will charge from the cover until I pick it up to read again.

That being said, my Oasis, in cover, is 8 1/8 ounces and my Voyage, in a light cover by "Exact," is 9 ounces.  I seldom read coverless.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle Oasis leather case is made from?
« on: March 20, 2017, 10:32:13 pm »
I have asked Amazon support, they said they will get back in few days. Unfortunately, I haven't got any update on this since then (already 5 days ago and keep counting).

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle Oasis leather case is made from?
« on: March 11, 2017, 05:29:57 am »
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know black leather case in Kindle Oasis made from what? Is it cow leather or pig leather?

Couldn't agree more on this. Anyone know, how to send feedback to Amazon - for stuff like this?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Traded-in my 1st gen Paperwhite, now what?
« on: March 09, 2017, 04:06:45 am »
I just bought white paperwhite (2016 version). Loaded book same with my black paperwhite (2015 version). I found that the white one is a bit faster than the old one - when moving from page to page. Not sure this is normal or not. The os, books in both kindles are same. Just for your consideration.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: New OASIS better than older Oasis.
« on: February 18, 2017, 03:27:03 am »
Just want to share. I bought Oasis cover (Walnut color) and just delivered this afternoon. My original cover is black. Comparing them side by side, I found the new one is thicker and more weight compared to the black one. The leather is different (which I already predict), the walnut is like silky, while the black one is black dove. The weight difference is quite noticeable, you can feel it right away the difference when you pick up the kindle with the cover attached.

Not sure whether this is normal difference between black and walnut, or possibly Amazon improved their QA.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Screen turns upside down
« on: February 13, 2017, 10:37:32 pm »
I also notice this few times recently as well. I don't remember this happened before. Could be defect on new update

I have had this a couple of times. I don't have offers so I don't have to swipe. Couple of times it would wake up upside down. I just thought I must have had it either totally flat and confused, or maybe my table is tilting  :P. Its been fairly recently I have noticed it, but it might have done it before as I don't really look at it much when I open the cover up. I just look away and then the book is open. I just happened to notice those couple of times.

Like you said, it flipped right back to where it was suppose to be.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Would You JailBreak Your Kindle?
« on: February 05, 2017, 02:40:52 am »
I had thought to jailbreak my kindle (just like my all apple devices are jailbroken) when I first bought my Oasis. But looking at benefit I don't see it's worth the effort. In addition, I could ask to Amazon to remove special offer and (thank God) they removed it for free.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Format Conversion Issue
« on: February 03, 2017, 07:25:11 pm »
Have you tried converting another ePub? I converted hundreds of books with no problem with Calibre. All of them to AZW3.

Sometimes I used ePubor Ultimate (not free). The result is more beautiful than Calibre but with cost of additional 50% size of AZW3 from Calibre.

Please move post if not in the proper boards.

I have a Kindle Voyage and I want to put a book on it. I downloaded the book and it is in EPUB format. This book includes title, page numbers, etc.. I used Calibre to convert it to AZW3 format and I chose Kindle Voyage for page layout. So, Calibre converted it from EPUB to AZW3. Next, I connect the Voyage to my computer, I copied the AZW3 book to Voyage. Next, I unplugged the Voyage and found the book on the Voyage. I noticed the book was missing the cover image and as I went into the book to start reading it, the words and sentences were all on top of each other and it was impossible to read.

I went back and plugged in the Voyage and deleted the book. I noticed that on the Voyage, you have the book.AZW3 and a folder associated with the book. Inside this folder is a whole bunch of other files with file extensions. What are all of these other files? Obviously, they have something to do with the book or how the book appears on the Voyage.

I noticed the book that I converted using Calibre didn't have these other files associated with the book which is probably why the format and layout on the Voyage was messed up.

My goal is to download a book either in EPUB or PDF format and convert it to either AZW3 or MOBi and copy the book to the Voyage so I can read it without any formatting or layout issues. I would like the book to have the proper title, cover, page numbers and layout so it can be read on the Voyage.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Voyager screen more evenly lite than Oasis*
« on: January 28, 2017, 11:41:12 pm »
I am not sure about Voyage. But I have Oasis and PW3. Both are good although the screen color are different.

I asked the replacement cover.  They sent the refurbished one and not asking the original one send back to them.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: How can I order extra cover for Oasis?
« on: December 31, 2016, 06:59:33 pm »
I have two covers now, one is refurbished replacement due to peel in the original one. Same color. But they are functional. Not sure what to do with both as I can imagine I only need one for weeks.

I am still back and forth with my PW3. The yellowish screen in PW3 sometimes more relaxing for eyes compared to white/milk in Oasis. PW3 stay at home while I bring Oasis wherever I go.

My Kindle is my library. I treat it very much like a well organized physical library. I have nearly 1000 books in genre collections, and then a few collections for TBR books. I love being able to browse genres to find something that looks interesting. Classic SciFi? I've got that. Biography? Got that too. Reread a trashy crime novel? Yup. It's my favorite thing about owning a Kindle.

Wow... I have only less than 100 books. The rest were kept in Cloud or Callibre library. Once a while I delete index file and let the kindle plugged to charger and perform reindex overnight. I might be wrong but I feel it make kindle snappier than before [emoji4]

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: How Many Books Did I Read This Year?
« on: December 31, 2016, 08:33:11 am »
I just realised that "Mark reading in goodreads" menu in Kindle does not work for side-loaded books. It only registered books that were purchased from amazon. Anyone seen this too?
