The Book Bazaar / The Trilogy of Shadows~ Dark Fantasy GIVEAWAY!!!
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:33:04 am »
I have just released the Trilogy of Shadows.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006GRZC7M

This is the omnibus containing:

Cameo the Asssasin
Cameo and the Highwayman
and Cameo and the Vampire

The Trilogy of Shadows contains books 1-3 of Cameo's bloody saga...

Cameo the Assassin~ The Kingdom of Sieunes is rife with taverns, dirty streets, and clay pipe smoking citizens all toiling to feed their families and keep themselves in something little better than rags. With a foiled revolution just ten years prior still burning in the hearts of many, the royals enlist the aid of assassins to keep things in order.

The townsfolk entertain themselves by dreaming of better times to come and regaling in stories of the undead said to walk the graveyards at night... and of Cameo the killer with corpse-like eyes... Scarred and jaded Cameo is one of the most effective assassins in the employ of the Association, moving from one mission to the next as long as the alcohol keeps flowing.

Her acceptance of the murder-for-hire lifestyle is thrown into doubt when she meets a local highwayman with a penchant for fine clothes and women, and then she begins to think about breaking with the company but no one ever breaks with the Association under good terms.

Cameo and the Highwayman~ The land of Shandow is a place of arctic cold, the scene of the bloody revolution and the location of the item Cameo's master wants so badly. In the dark of winter a vampire lies in wait... Opal is unable to run from his past... and Cameo must make a choice that will cost her the last shred of humanity she has left.

Cameo and the Vampire~ A vampire's bite tormenting Cameo, she pushes forth on a journey that will find her descending into darkness and at Kyrian's request she is forced into the confrontation she has been avoiding for over fifty years with the undead that made her...

Sometimes the antihero is the only hero you can find~

Not Quite Kindle / Can you hear in your dreams?
« on: March 03, 2011, 10:02:47 am »
I cannot. I tend to have the most fantastic dreams (creative mind go figure right?) but unfortunately I can never hear anything that's going on.  When someone is talking to me in a dream it's all garble.  I never thought much about it, but other people claim they can hear stuff in their dreams so it made me wonder how common it was.

How about the rest of you?

Writers' Cafe / New Covers

Glendon Haddix redesigned my covers, so that the font would be legable and hopefully the genre would be more obvious upon first glance. He's really fast and very affordable.  His website~ http://streetlightgraphics.com/

I'd like to hear opinions on whether or not they prefer the old or new covers.

Writers' Cafe / Contacted by an agent... it happened
« on: January 10, 2011, 11:27:56 am »
I've been contacted by an agent who wants to publish me overseas to a Turkish publisher.  She also wants a 25% cut which seems like a lot.

I'm thrilled that it happened, now I just need to figure out a way to go around this particular individual and speak directly to the publisher in question I guess.  Or, I could just forget about it...

Advice from anyone else who this has happened to would be great.  Did you end up finding an agent or how did this occur?  Should I bother with this at all?

Writers' Cafe / Do you read outside of your genre?
« on: January 08, 2011, 08:11:00 pm »
So, I was just having this discussion with my husband about how I prefer Literary Fiction to any other type of fiction.  I write dark fantasy but I rarely read it.  Is that atypical for a writer?

How many of you PREFER to read genres other than what you write?

Writers' Cafe / Should I alter my covers?
« on: January 02, 2011, 12:02:48 pm »
I don't have an ereader so I really don't know what the thumbnails of my novels look like, but I suspect that you can't read the font.  I'm wondering if that's effecting my sales at all.  I was thinking of maybe just changing the font to white or adding new font that is print in white, rather than the cursive I'm using now.

What do people think?

Has anyone found that changing the font on their titles helped sales?

Thanks,
Dawn

Hi everyone,

Through some lucky fluke, I met a woman through a Facebook game who runs an Indie Book Blog.  The blog is Juniper Grove~   http://junipergrove.wordpress.com/  The woman running the blog is Jaidis Shaw~
"jaidisshaw at yahoo dot com", and she's interested in finding authors to interview, and is accepting new books to review.

"I will read almost every genre, including but not limited too: fantasy, mystery, science fiction, thrillers, horror, comedy, romance, erotica, western, and action. I do not often review books that are written with strong religious themes, although I may if requested. In addition, I read books from all age groups, including children’s and young adult."

She is also interested in doing book giveaways for anyone interested.

Thanks very much for your time,
All the best~
Dawn

Writers' Cafe / Kindle issue- can someone help?
« on: October 21, 2010, 09:24:02 am »
Hi there,

A friend just let me know that the first letter of every paragraph is showing up under the first word, in the Kindle version of Cameo the Assassin.  When I view the "sample" on my pc it looks just fine, and this is the first I've heard of this problem since I re-uploaded it.

If anyone has read the novel on a Kindle or has looked at a sample could he/she let me know if you can see the same problem my friend is seeing?

Thanks,
Dawn

The Book Corner / Children's classics

I'm looking for classic book suggestions for my son.  He's 3yrs, and has a lot of books already, which is why I'm starting to run out of ideas for his upcoming birthday and the holidays (yes, I buy early).

Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks,
Dawn
