Introductions & Welcomes / Let me re-introduce myself...
« on: May 07, 2014, 05:05:15 pm »
Hello KB Family... My name is Angela. I am a longtime member of this forum who has been away for over a year due to many circumstances beyond my control. I live in NE Texas where I moved in 2007 from Houston to help care for my parents. It was late 2008 when I purchased my 1st Generation Kindle and joined this forum while I awaited his arrival. In 2010 my father passed away and my first Kindle died a horrible death later that year and was replaced with the 3rd Generation Kindle (which is still going strong). My mother moved in with me in 2011 and the hubby who had remained in Houston to work while I took care of parent's finally was able to move north in 2013 and is now working out of our home. I got a Paperwhite for Valentine's Day this year and don't miss the reading lights one bit!! Anyway, a lot has happened that kept me away and out of touch. I hope to reconnect with my many KB friends & family as well as meet new people. Looking forward to getting to know you all again!!  :)

Archives / WTB: Vera Bradley Dog Carrier
« on: February 27, 2012, 09:40:15 am »
I am looking for a new or gently used VB Pet Porter/Carrier. I prefer the more muted colors or at least something that my little boy wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen in!!  ;)  I have found a few on eBay, but I can't spend $100 or more on one. Thanks!

Bad news first - My dearly loved K1 that I have had since November 4, 2008 has died. I was so upset when I was unable to revive it last night that I actually had trouble sleeping! There is some type of damage to the screen that will not allow the last used screensaver to go away and all you can see of the home page is a small square in the upper right hand corner.  Even with the power off, that partial screensaver is still there taunting me. I will admit, although I am a bit embarrassed by it, that I cried... and am still a bit weepy because of the demise of my K1. I feel like I have lost a very dear friend and can't believe that the loss of an inanimate object has affected me so deeply!!  :'(

However.... Good news is I was able to place an order today for a new K3 Graphite, 3G/Wi-Fi with an estimated delivery date of tomorrow. I am just hoping and praying that I get one as good and reliable as KWINN was and will not have any of the issues that I have been reading about on KB!!  :o  Early Christmas present for me!!  ;D :D

Kindle Accessories / Machine washing Vera Bradley's
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:28:32 pm »
First off, a huge apology if this has been covered elsewhere, but I am desperate and need answers...  ;D

Has anyone actually machine washed a Vera Bradley Bowler Bag? If so, any suggestions or things to watch out for? I know I will need to remove the cardboard base before washing. I spent the afternoon with a dear friend at her house and she is a smoker. I wasn't thinking, and carried my VB inside with me. Needlesss to say, the bag now smells like an ashtray (as do I). If only I had thought it through, I would have left it in the car. Now I need to do something quickly because I can't even stand to have it in the house with me right now.

Thanks for any help!

OK, Kari... now we have a place to discuss this season's SYTYCD!

I have to go to Senior Awards at my niece's high school tonight, but the DVR is set and I am ready!

Not Quite Kindle / Aptonyms: they are what they're called!
« on: May 21, 2009, 07:25:33 am »

People gravitate to places and things that remind them of their own names -- they feel an affinity for them. A guy named Dennis is more likely to be a dentist and marry a woman named Denise and, I dunno, cheat on her with Della from Dellaware. If someone with a similar name to your own asks you to take a survey, you're more likely to agree, but if someone asks you why you agreed, you probably won't realize the name was a factor.

There is a proctologist in Humble, TX by the name of Butts. Seriously! :)

Book Klub: One Year Bible / OYB Participants and Prayer Partners
« on: May 19, 2009, 09:58:05 am »
The following is a listing of the OYB Participants and Prayer Partners. There have been so many who have been a part of the discussions and daily readings since we began talking about it in the Christian Fiction Fans thread in December 08. This list includes those who are participating in the OYB Klub, those who have expressed an interest in The One Year Bible or other Bible Readings and Daily Devotions and those who have been a part of the Prayer Requests thread.

I will do my best to keep this as up-to-date as possible. If I have missed anyone, please forgive me and let me know and I will correct it. If for some reason you prefer not to have your name on this list you can send me a PM and it will be removed, no questions asked.

We started out with about 18 people in January 09, and by March we were up to 33! As of August 9, 2010 participation has grown to 115 individuals. :D Note: This does not include all threads in the OYB Klub.

Not Quite Kindle / Mothers' Day Fun
« on: May 06, 2009, 07:30:38 am »
We've all been posting "mother" stories related to books on Harvey's contest thread, so I thought we should have a non-book thread just for mom stuff. How about funny stories, pictures, etc. dedicated to mothers everywhere?

I just saw this one on a friend's Facebook page that her daughter sent her.

Not Quite Kindle / Dom DeLuise is gone

Just heard on the TV that Dom DeLuise passed away in his sleep last night at the age of 75. Very funny guy!

Let's Talk Kindle! / New Sprint Commercial with Kindle
« on: April 29, 2009, 12:35:15 pm »
Has anyone seen the newest Sprint commercial? I saw it on TV last night during Dancing with the Stars (or maybe it was American Idol). Anyway, the whole premise is how large their 3G network is and all that takes place at one time and one scene was a woman with a Kindle and they were talking about x number of women downloading books onto their Kindles. It was pretty neat.

Not Quite Kindle / I have a new gadget/toy!
« on: April 16, 2009, 01:29:26 pm »
I recently was given an early Mother's Day present from my son and DIL. Thus another reason I have not been online!!

I am now the owner of a Nintendo DS lite. The one thing that I swore I didn't need and would never use! I have games on my computer and my phone... I have a Wii and more games than I can play... why would I need something else??  ;D

I am now addicted to my DS!!  ::)  I am not a big *video* game person, but I am so in love with the BrainAge type of games. My game collection is beginning to grow and I am afraid book purchases and games purchases will be competing with each other!  I am also now beginning to eye those mini laptops and I KNOW I don't need another laptop!! LOL

Stop the insanity!!  ;D ;D

Archives / Wanted: Vera Bradley Bowler in Cafe Latte
« on: April 16, 2009, 07:36:03 am »
I am still in the market for a Cafe Latte Vera Bradley Bowler, but am limited in funds. Does not have to be *brand new.* Would prefer to pay with Paypal, but would also consider paying by Amazon gift card.

Introductions & Welcomes / Hello KindleBoard Family!
« on: April 15, 2009, 08:13:44 am »
Just thought I would post a quick message here in the Intros to say that I have missed you all and that even though life has seemed to have swallowed me up, I am still alive and well in NE Texas! I would also like to say WELCOME to all of you who have joined KB while I have been out of touch!

There was so much going on in March that I hardly had time to breathe let alone spend time online. DH is still commuting to Houston and I am now volunteering at the church office 2 days a week. My kids and grandkids were all here for Spring Break and we had a wonderful time!  :D

The following week a dear friend from West Texas spent 5 days with me and the week following I was moving my 19 year old niece into our guestroom and she is now living with me!  She is a senior in high school and has no transportation so “Aunt Angie” is now taking her to school everyday (3 towns over)! Having her here is a good thing and we are hoping and praying that she will be able to reestablish her relationship with her dad (my brother). I am the only one on our side of the family that she has had any contact with in the past 6 years.

One good thing about being “mom” to a teen again is that KWINN and I have spent lots of time together in the past 3+ weeks in line at the high school for after school pick up and/or while waiting for tennis practice to be over. Last week we were at the District Tennis meet at Tyler Junior College for an entire day… Lots of wonderful reading time!! Woo Hoo!!  :D

Well, that is enough for now… I may try and catch up on a few posts although I am afraid there may just be too many to tackle and I will probably have to just pretend I am a newbie, hit the *mark all as read* and start over from today. I know I won’t be able to spend as much time online as before, but I do hope to check in a bit more often. I have actually been going to bed at a decent time since we have to be ready to leave the house no later than 7am to get her to school on time! No more late nights on KB for me… at least not until school is out!  ;)

PS – a very special thanks to those of you who have sent PM’s checking up on me… they really meant a lot! Love you guys!

Let's Talk Kindle! / Transfering from Kindle Memory to SD Card
« on: February 18, 2009, 10:25:19 pm »
I have been transferring books and samples from my Kindle memory to the SD Card through Content Manager. 5 transfers did not work. There is a message at the bottom of the page that is a line that states:

! 5 items failed to transfer. Please ty again later.

I finally got these 5 items to transfer by using the USB cable and my laptop, but I can't figure out how to get rid of this statement. Has this happened to anyone else?

Archives / Wanted - Kindle1 Original Cover
« on: February 18, 2009, 08:22:06 pm »
Although I love my new M-edge cover, I still prefer my original Kindle1 cover. I know it is nothing fancy, but I like the lightweight feel of it and prefer using it for reading in bed. While my original cover is still in fair condition, I would love to have a spare or 2 on hand for the day this one bites the dust. If there are any original covers still lying around out there, I would be happy to take them off your hands.

The Book Corner / Feedbook question
« on: February 17, 2009, 10:36:55 pm »
It has been a while since I downloaded the feedbooks kindle guide to my kindle. I know that it is updated periodically. Should I delete the current catalog from my kindle before downloading again, or will it just overwrite the old one??

Archives / SOLD - Brand new Vera Bradley Bowler to trade or sell
« on: February 06, 2009, 09:09:24 am »
I have a brand new Vera Bradley Bowler that still has tags and has only been taken out of plastic once to look at it. It is Classic Black and also has matching wallet (price tag on wallet says $25). It is very nice, but I really wanted one in Cafe Latte. I would be willing to trade for a Cafe Latte Bowler or perhaps another style as long as the Kindle fits inside. I would also be willing to sell the set for $45 (includes shipping). Send me a PM if you are interested.

Not Quite Kindle / Free Christian Music Downloads from volumMonster
« on: January 01, 2009, 09:35:18 am »
I have a wonderful friend who writes and co-writes beautiful Christian Praise and Worship Songs and poetry. She and one of her co-writers have just completed a new song that is available for free download. It is called Reason for the Season. If you are interested you can get it at with a redeem code of: 1234567

I am hoping one day that she will publish some of her writings and they will be available for the Kindle. I guess in the meantime, I will have to be happy with her music!

Edit from earlier today ~~
Note: this is not a studio recording. It is only Tim on the piano, singing. There are other artists who have songs available for free downloads as well. I have listed some additional CODES in another post below and will periodically list codes as they become available.

Not Quite Kindle / Thank you and Merry Christmas
« on: December 23, 2008, 08:34:41 am »
I just wanted to say thank you to my wonderful new friends here at Kindleboards and especially a huge thanks for the many PM's and public postings on my behalf this past week. You all have been such an encouragement to me in your show of support to allow me to be who I am. I have been asked by many of you to put my sig back the way it was by many of you who don't even share by beliefs and that means a lot. I have modified my sig for the remainder of the holiday season, but without my *billboard.*

Thanks again to you all and a special thanks to Harvery (and the Mods) for giving us all a safe haven to discuss our love of books and to meet and make many new friends.

PS - I am about to shut my laptop down and pack it in the car for the trip to Midland. I may be out of touch for a few days so I will be seeing you all later on! Have a safe and wonderful holiday however you celebrate. My thoughts and prayers will be with each of you.

Suggestions, Comments / Text messages from KB
« on: December 08, 2008, 09:56:43 am »
Is it possible for us to receive text messages when we have a Personal Message? I wouldn't necessarily want to receive message or notification on postings, but it would be very helpful if I got a text message on my phone with either the PM attached, or at least letting me know that I have one.

I posted this here rather than sending you a PM wondering if others were interested in this, tool

Thanks, Angela

Not Quite Kindle / @ Larry's apt in Houston, poor internet, no whispernet!
« on: December 04, 2008, 03:12:40 pm »
Hey everyone! I am in Houston for a couple of days to spend some time with Larry and the grandson's birthday party. Internet at Larry's apt is very limited. I am using his aircard right now just to let you know where I am. Before he got home from work I tried to connect to the web on the Kindle and I have no bars showing. I guess the SW side of Houston has dead spots. Well, at least I have plenty of books downloaded already! I have email on my cell phone, so if anyone sends me a PM, I will get the notice. Have fun and I will check in when I can!

Love you guys!! Angela

PS - Maybe tomorrow while he is at work I will see if I can find a coffee shop with WiFi.  :D

The KBoards Photo Gallery / Kwinn's New Skin
« on: December 02, 2008, 02:24:57 pm »
Kwinn now has her new skin. I love the way she looks. Not too pleased with the way my Mighty Bright glares on the shiney skin, but with a little adjustment I think we can make it work! I am still using the original cover for now. I have a brand new Vizu cover that is being held back for Christmas (the one compromise to getting Kwinn early). I will post pictures in the new cover after Christmas.

The Book Corner / I Can't Get into Feedbooks!
« on: December 02, 2008, 01:01:37 pm »
