The Book Corner / My Kindle attended a book signing
« on: December 12, 2008, 07:11:19 pm »
This evening I went to hear my favorite "fun" author, Tim Dorsey, speak at my local library.  I have all his books on my Kindle, so I figured hey, why buy a dead tree book just to get a signature?

It was his first Kindle signing, so he took a photo of it, too.

Maybe I should finally skin my Kindle so the signature is protected, though it was signed with a permanent Sharpie.  And maybe I'll collect a few more signatures down the road.  Who'd'a thunk a Kindle would become my techno-adult version of the autograph bear?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Yippee! Another Amazon Rewards certificate!
« on: December 05, 2008, 02:13:20 pm »
Y'know, nothing brightens my day quite like a $25 reward certificate from my Amazon Visa card.  :D  Just a little reminder that groceries, car insurance, the cable bill, new socks, and all that mundane stuff can eventually translate into Kindle books.  (But don't carry a balance, or the Bad Guys win.)

Actually I think the cash back rate on my Discover card might be a little higher, but then I'd miss the sheer joy of an Amazon certificate showing up in the mailbox unexpectedly!

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Do-it-myself audiobooks?
« on: November 18, 2008, 09:07:09 pm »
Any chance there's a way to make my own audiobook that can be listened to on the Kindle?  Specifically, I'm wondering if there's a way to put a "wrapper" around an mp3 file (or collection of mp3 files) so it shows up as an audiobook on the Kindle.

I know I can listen to mp3 files on the Kindle, but I specifically want a way to make them show up as audiobooks in the Kindle's book listing, like audiobooks from Audible show up.

My understanding is that Audible's format is proprietary, so no dice there.  Can the Kindle read any other audiobook formats?  (I'm guessing no, but I figure it can't hurt to ask.)  Legal and ethical options only, please.  8)
