Writers' Cafe / The new KU, who's doing well?
« on: April 04, 2016, 10:54:07 am »
With all the stupidity going on with KU and the scammers working their magic in there...I'm wondering who is still making good money in KU?

If you would like to share, would love to know what genre you're writing in, how many books you have, and what promo you're doing if any?

Thanks to all who are always so generous with their information and advice.  :-*

Very excited to announce the release of part 1 of a sexy NA serial THE OTHER BROTHER.  Out now for only 99 CENTS.

We are also hosting a contest to celebrate the release for a chance to win an iPad Mini.  If you are interested, check it out here.

Am thinking of going through them to format for createspace to get a print copy done.

Just wondering if anyone has used them for this.

Writers' Cafe / Self Pub Like a Pro - blog series at RT book blog
« on: March 13, 2014, 11:13:53 am »
They are talking about covers today, and there is a blog post from Frauke from Croco Designs (she's my design artist and has been for the last 7 years) and she's talking about what makes a good cover.  Thought this might be of interest to some here...

She does covers for publishers like Harlequin, but she also does a lot of covers for indies. I highly recommend her.

I thought this was a good grab from the article..

What's the most important thing a cover has to do? Convey what the story is about? Catch the reader’s eye?

Covers must give hints about the genre and content of the book to attract the targeted readership and in the best case go one step beyond it by attracting readers who usually don’t belong to that audience. The perfect cover does the story justice but at the same time also fulfills its commercial (“attention-grabbing”) aspect so it is not bypassed.

Writers' Cafe / Looking for UF and YA book recs
« on: March 09, 2014, 12:37:34 pm »
I posted this in the book corner but got no joy so...

I am looking for uf and YA book recs from indie authors that don't have any romance in them.  And if that's not a tall order, I would love to read those with female main characters.

Writers' Cafe / New Genre - New Name?
« on: July 14, 2013, 11:33:45 am »
I am writing my first NA, and am wondering if I should put it out under a new name, or under my YA name Tawny Stokes.

Do most YA authors who are writing NA keep their names?

The biggest problem for me I guess, is that all of my previous work is paranormal.  And this NA isn't.  It's contemporary.

Thoughts oh wise kboarders?

Writers' Cafe / The Rebirth Process
« on: July 12, 2013, 06:59:03 pm »
Am thinking about completely reimagining my career. Doing a complete overhaul and putting out completely new stuff in a new genre.

Has anyone done this?  Did you just kill yourself off completely and pop up as someone new? Did you let your readers know where you were going?

I feel like my career as stalled, well maybe even taking a nose dive and I need to just cut bail and run.

Writers' Cafe / Sexism in the Publishing Industry
« on: June 10, 2013, 01:27:17 pm »
This is a fabulous blog post on sexism and misogyny in the publishing industry, especially in the scifi/fantasy genre.

I don't always agree with Chuck Wendig but I love that he makes a stand.

Writers' Cafe / Nook apps removed
« on: June 08, 2013, 12:12:59 pm »
NOt sure if someone already posted this...didn't see it.

Apparently, now we won't be able to check our books on our PC or Mac nook apps to check formatting and such...not unless you have a Nook.

I have a Nook app on my computer so I can do just that, and now I won't be able to.

Writers' Cafe / From Smashwords to Draft2Digital
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:31:10 am »
Has anyone pulled all their books from SW and put them through D2D?

I'm thinking of doing it, but am loathe to lose all my reviews.  And any momentum I've had on B&N.

Guess I'm looking for someone to tell me to DO IT. or DON'T DO IT. you're crazy.  :-)

Writers' Cafe / Rankings. How long do they take?
« on: April 23, 2013, 12:16:32 pm »
New book out today, The Vampire Affair, part 2, have been selling pretty well, and so far I have no ranking.  Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!  I want to be ranked.  Cuz I know it will be a good one.

Anyone have this problem before?  Do I need more patience? *looks in pocket for some*

Very excited to say that The Vampire Affair, part 2 had been released.

Writers' Cafe / Why are these books not selling?
« on: March 07, 2013, 12:59:33 pm »
What do you think of the covers?  I love them, they are exactly the look I wanted for the books, after the disasterous covers Kensington gave me when they were first published.

Thoughts?  I'm going to change the blurbs again.  And drop the price of Vanquished to 99 cents.

Any other ideas of things to try?

Writers' Cafe / B&N categories HELP!
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:43:45 pm »
Anyone know how to get a book put in the right category in B&N having to go through Smashwords?

My YA book is climbing the charts and I noticed it isn't in teen category, it's in like miscellaneous...  it's not going to get the visibility that it should in that category obviously.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Writers' Cafe / Help with a blurb
« on: November 04, 2012, 05:35:29 pm »
I'm repackaging and relaunching my YA book Demon Whisperer in January, but I desperately need help with the blurb.  I have a kicking new cover and a new title, but I think my blurb is too's lacking something..

Demons of the Rich and Famous

Supernatural possession is the new “disease” and teen exorcist Caden Butcher is the cure…

Having to take care of his father, Caden makes a decent income curing the new “disease” — supernatural possession. He’s known as the whiz-kid exorcist to the stars, obtaining most of his work in Hollywood. What others don't know is the exorcisms are all staged with his demon BFF, Dan. Not everyone is happy with Caden’s star status, including Remy Martin, a high ranking member of the International Order of Exorcists.

So when a real exorcism goes wrong and Caden lets the nasty demon inside a teen girl jump bodies, the crap hits the supernatural fan. Not only does the Order strip him of his license but Caden discovers the demon is one he knows and he’s hell bent on destroying Caden’s life, including outing him as a fraud. Now with the help of his demon buddy, and Caden’s girlfriend Aspen Spencer, a necromancer in training, Caden must track down the rogue demon before he can end Caden’s reign as the one and only Demon Whisperer.
