Hey, all. I tried looking for a solution to my specific problem, but couldn't find one. I'm currently reading a book that I manually uploaded to my Kindle Oasis, and I was wondering if there's a way to upload the highlights to Goodreads? Even though I am on wi-fi, the option to share is greyed out. Does it have to be a book in my Amazon Kindle library for me to share? If anyone could offer advice, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle Oasis Screen Unresponsive?
« on: May 06, 2016, 08:59:56 pm »
So, I was using my Oasis today and noticed I couldn't get the brightness to pop up. Upon further poking at the screen, it appears the screen has become unresponsive. I restarted it several times to no avail. I'm at a loss at what to do because I bought a Merlot from Best Buy. And of course, they're sold out in all colors. So, I'm guessing I won't get a replacement. And it's a Merlot too, so I won't get one from Amazon until at least July. I'm just wondering if this has happened with anyone else. I'm extremely upset because I was planning on taking it with me on my 2 week trip next week. I don't even have a backup Kindle to use. I'm just lost now.

Kindle Accessories / Reusing my Oberon Kindle DX cover?
« on: October 09, 2014, 09:56:17 am »
I sold my Kindle DX, but still have an Oberon cover. It is the beautiful Dragonfly Pond in Sky Blue. I was wondering if there might be another use for it because I would hate for it to go to waste. Does anyone know if an iPad 3 fit into the cover? I currently don't have my cover with me right now to try it out. Otherwise, I guess I might have to sell it, but it's so gorgeous I wanted to keep it. Any suggestions?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle Voyage going down in price for the holidays?
« on: October 09, 2014, 06:34:53 am »
I haven't bought a new Kindle for myself since May 2009, so I haven't been keeping up with pricing on the models as they are released. I wanted to get the new Voyage (without offers and Wi-Fi only), but the only thing stopping me is the price. Has the pricing for Kindles always been that expensive? Has Amazon ever lowered pricing for the holidays in past years? Basically, I'm asking if I should hold out on the Voyage for another couple months or would it not matter if I got it now. Any advice/input is appreciated!

Let's Talk Kindle! / How often do you upgrade?
« on: October 09, 2014, 06:25:56 am »
So, I sold my first and only Kindle (Kindle DX), as it was time for me to upgrade. I have been eyeing the Paperwhite for awhile (and am thrilled that they are coming out with a newer version), but I never took the plunge for sentimental reasons. But I was just curious as to how often everyone upgrades to a newer version of Kindle. So, cast your vote!

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle Screensavers?
« on: January 03, 2012, 07:39:41 pm »
Since I've had my KDX as my only Kindle, I was wondering what screensavers all the other Kindles have (without the hack, of course), not including the special offer Kindles because, well, they display the special offers. Are the screensavers still the dead authors for the other Kindles?

Kindle Accessories / Remove Wool Felt From Oberon Cover?
« on: January 02, 2012, 08:18:54 am »
I got my Oberon cover for my KDX way back when, but I now realize why I had stopped using it for a period of time - the felt used to "protect" the screen. It feels extremely weird when I bend back the cover to read, and I'm beginning to think it picks up more dust than it's worth the trouble of keeping. Does anyone have any idea on how I could possibly remove the felt with minimal damage to my beautiful cover?

Not Quite Kindle / Audible Question
« on: December 27, 2011, 08:25:54 pm »
Ah, I wasn't sure where to put this, so feel free to move it, if it's not in the right place.

For those who use Audible, I have a quick question for you!

Can you purchase extra credits, or do you actually pay for the whole price of the audiobook after you've used up your allotted credits?

Not Quite Kindle / Silent Short Film That I Did
« on: December 21, 2011, 06:49:28 pm »
Hey, guys! I thought it would be fun to share a little silent film with you, that I helped create. It's about the spirit of giving, which is perfect for the holiday season. It's the first film we've ever done, so it might be a little sloppy. We're just amateurs. Haha. But enjoy, and feel free to leave comments and like it!

of something you can't remember? I'm burning a vanilla candle (I normally hate sweet scents) with a smell that reminds me of childhood. I'm trying to remember why it strikes me as familiar, but nothing comes to me. It's comforting and also a little sad for some reason. Does anyone ever go through that? I pride myself on having a stellar memory (people comment on it all the time), but no amount of brain jogging can seem to extract this one particular memory.

Kindle Accessories / Land of Lost Accessories?
« on: December 18, 2011, 07:59:15 pm »
I was going through some of my boxes to find my Oberon cover (that I haven't used in forever, due to its weight), and I came across two more cases/covers that I completely forgot I had. I haven't used them since I first got my KDX, so they've been sitting around. I just can't believe I didn't realize I had them because I could have definitely used them on several occasions. Has anyone ever forgotten all the accessories they've gotten, leaving them to the land of lost accessories?

The Book Corner / Audiobooks: Yay or nay?
« on: December 17, 2011, 09:17:39 am »
I have never listened to an audiobook before, but I'm just wondering if many of you KBers do. If so, what do you listen to it on? When do you listen to it? Why do you listen to it? I'm just curious to test it out, but I wanted to hear the opinions of others to see their reasoning behind audiobooks. :)

Let's Talk Kindle! / Confirmation on Kindle Readable Files for the K4
« on: December 16, 2011, 08:41:00 am »
I was hoping someone could confirm the Kindle readable files WITHOUT conversion or having to e-mail myself, specifically for the K4. Here are the ones that I know of:

Kindle  .azw, .azw1
PDF .pdf
Text .txt
Mobipocket mobi, prc

Are there any other ones I might be missing?

So, I received an e-mail from my second home's public library yesterday. I could literally hear my happiness drop. I went from one day being able to check out book eBooks (my first time too!) to not being able to check any out at all. I have access to the eBooks at my real home's library, but I'm extremely disappointed that my home away from home's library decided to cut those off who have a different permanent address. I live there for more than 9 months of the year, so to me, I find it unfair. I understand that I'm lucky to get access at all, I suppose, but they have a much better selection when it comes to eBooks, but now I don't have that option anymore. I feel frustrated, since I was really looking forward to finally getting to borrow and read some books. Doesn't look like that's happening anymore. I actually just e-mailed them, but I don't know how lenient with their policy they will be. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Or do you think your library will be next?

Ever since I saw the trailer for The Hunger Games, I've been pretty mad at myself. I can't seem to recall what the characters looked like in my head when I first read them awhile back. I waited to see the cast list because I knew that I would lose what my imagination had created for the characters. I hate when that happens. It always seems as though once I have the actor/actress in my head, I can't separate their portrayal and original character I imagined, even though I don't like the casting (That's a story for another time!). Does this happen to anyone else?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Stark contrast in e-ink!
« on: December 14, 2011, 06:39:37 pm »
So, I just received my brother's Christmas present, a K4, today. I am setting it up, and the one thing I realized/noticed (other than the annoyance of not having a keyboard) was the amazing e-ink screen. I guess I'm so accustomed to my KDX that I didn't realize how much advancement in the technology Amazon has gone with it. It AMAZED me. It almost makes me want to get a new Kindle for myself, but I won't. Haha. I guess I'm wondering if anyone else noticed the stark quality, for those who have both older and newer Kindles?

The Book Corner / Shortest Piece of Writing You Will Read?
« on: December 13, 2011, 08:46:35 am »
As I'm stocking up on books for Christmas break, I find myself getting annoyed at all the novels that aren't full length. Maybe I'm just being picky, but I like a good, long storyline, so I can see the characters develop, dive into the book head-on, etc. I am generally okay with novellas, but when it comes down to novelettes, I start to get picky. I just avoid short stories altogether. I've read many (at my leisure and at my job) and find that they're too short to be of satisfactory quality for my taste. I see a good plot as I'm reading summaries, and then the dreaded amount of words/pages shows up at the bottom. I feel disappointed because it seemed like such a good plot. However, if I find myself completely drawn to it, I do end up reading the piece, but like I said before, I always feel it comes up short in the end. So, what is the shortest piece of writing you will read?

Not Quite Kindle / Any Candle/Home Fragrance Fanatics Out There?
« on: December 12, 2011, 07:16:36 pm »
I seem to have an obsession with keeping wherever I reside smelling nice. I love buying home fragrances - everything from plugins to candles to fragrance oils. Anybody else a fan?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Do you have a hard time parting with your Kindle?
« on: December 11, 2011, 03:28:24 pm »
So, I'm looking into getting a Fire, but I'm starting to wonder if I should sell my KDX. I honestly don't even know what it's worth nowadays, since it's the original KDX. Anyhow, I just don't think I could part with it. I still want an e-ink device, but I was thinking about getting a K3 with 3G instead, so it would be nicer to carry around. Have you had problems in parting with your Kindle devices? Or does the prospect and excitement of getting a new Kindle overwhelming that feeling of loss?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Does Kindle ship with other items?
« on: December 11, 2011, 11:08:57 am »
I was wondering if you order other items with the Kindle, does it come in one package? When I ordered my KDX way back when, I didn't order anything else with it, so I was wondering if anyone else has. I just want to know how many packages to expect if I order other items along with it. Or maybe two Kindles - a K4 and a Fire (we will see!).

Not Quite Kindle / Crazy Ex-Roommate Rant
« on: December 10, 2011, 06:20:53 pm »
So, I just spent the last four hours cleaning up after my roommate who moved out yesterday in my apartment. Want to know what she did? She left rotten onions in the laundry room, under the couch, in plants on the windowsill, in the crevice between the wall and fridge, and that's not all. She also left raw chicken on top of the kitchen cabinets, under the sink, under the oven, in the microwave, under the fridge, and probably some places I have yet to find. Oh, and there's more. Cracked eggs that have now since dried are in between the fridge and the other wall, under the sink with the raw chicken, underneath the trash can, and in the drawers of the fridge. I can't find any way to clean it up without having to bend and scrub. My back and ankles hurt. My fingers are raw.

I live with two other girls - one of which is one of my really good friends. The other is never around. She practically lives at her boyfriend's, but we had never had any problems. So, all the signs lead back to this girl who always seemed to hate us. I don't know why because we never talked. I have never been so angry and upset at someone before. I just really needed to rant because it's causing me so much stress, when I should be studying for finals. I just can't imagine how someone could stoop so low as to do that. I want to confront her, but I don't think I could. I don't think she would even answer my call. I can't seem to calm myself down because I just keep thinking about it. Thanks for reading, I guess.

The Book Corner / Sites That List Free Kindle Books?
« on: December 10, 2011, 07:07:29 am »
So, I was wondering if anyone knows of some good sites that update frequently (daily preferably) that list free Kindle books from Amazon. I know that I've seen some around KB, but for the life of me, I can't find the website again. I think it may have been in a siggy. Nevertheless, if you have some good ones you could recommend, that would be awesome!

Let's Talk Kindle! / How many Kindles do you have?
« on: December 09, 2011, 10:42:41 pm »
So, I was just curious as to how many Kindles you PERSONALLY own. So, that means don't count your family's total, but how many you actually have. I'm looking into buying another Kindle for portability. I don't usually carry a bag/purse with me, and when I do, it's extremely small, as I only need to carry the necessities, which is where I would love to include a Kindle as well! It probably won't be for awhile, since I'm already spending money to buy a K4 + accessories for my brother this Christmas. I normally wouldn't get two of the same type of device, but I'm possibly willing to make an exception here. So, how many do you have, which ones do you have, and why do you have that amount?

Kindle Accessories / DecalGirl skin damaged my KDX!
« on: December 09, 2011, 11:44:32 am »
I don't know if it is because it's been on there for awhile, which caused some problem with the adhesive to the surface of my KDX, but it peeled off about a centimeter of the white surface on the "Home" button. I was utterly shocked because I've never had problems before with DecalGirl skins. I was changing the skin because it was due for a new one, since the old was a bit deformed in some places. When I peeled it off, it took some of my KDX with it. I was just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone, and I suppose it's not a big deal because I have another skin on it now (I should have taken a picture before I put it on!). It just shocks me. I know that I didn't do anything that would have caused it to take a bit of the surface part off.
