Writers' Cafe / Contacting Amazon
« on: June 23, 2016, 11:43:50 am »
I'm looking for a simple number or email for issues that pertain to your book.  (Like you want to change covers.) There is more and more clutter out there and it's increasingly difficult to find simple answers to simple questions on  Thank you.

Writers' Cafe / I need help with Photoshop
« on: June 06, 2016, 04:43:56 pm »
It's been awhile since I published a book.  When I got to the section where you upload your cover I found that I could not get my image from Photoshop into the Amazon browser.  I tried every sort of solution, but could not do it.  Fearing the loss of all that preceding data, quite a bit, I decided to make my own cover using their cover generator on the promise that doing so would save my efforts.  I spent about 15 minutes with it.  It's a clever sort of program and I came up with a not-so-bad-cover.

I've made a number of my own covers on Photoshop 5.5, but because of a stroke and time off from doing this, was stumped by this task.  Assuming that I can replace one cover with another, how do I get my image from Photoshop into the browser for cover images in the book building program?  By the way, I got through the whole thing and now am waiting word on the finished book.  The little wheel takes forever to grind away.

Writers' Cafe / How and Where to Store Images
« on: June 03, 2016, 11:07:53 am »
I used to have an image storage facility for holding images for upload to Kboards, but have forgotten it.  What do you use to store images and how does it work?

Writers' Cafe / I have had a stroke

not large one, as it turns out, but a troublesome one.  Hardest hit, is my typing speed, which is a fraction of what it used to be.  Every sentence is labored.  I'm looking for something to speed things up, like Dragon Naturally Speaking, for example.  It would be ideal to find a tying program that typed the correct word, so that "wuz" is always "was," as you type along.  I doubt that I will find such a program, which leads me back to voice recognition software.  What are your recommendations?

Not hard to work with or one who makes eeny-weeny changes.  App. $100.  PM me if you like.

Writers' Cafe / New Photoshop Question
« on: September 26, 2015, 10:31:10 am »
I recently re-installed PS 5.5 on my system after a crash.  However, now I have Win 7 and it doesn't recognize Photoshop.  Therefore, I can't import a image from a stock agency into my system to start a new book cover.  It's default is Image Ready instead of Photoshop before I re-installed it.  When I download my image and try to open it, I get a window that tells me an unknown error has occurred.  What do I do to make my pc recognize Photoshop?

Writers' Cafe / Photoshop Question - UPDATE
« on: September 12, 2015, 07:07:58 am »
I have an older version of Photoshop, PS 5.5 that I have used for about as long as I have had this computer, ten years.  Every time it crashes, I reload it.  I have done this four or five times, though not in a long time.

Finally, I got around to doing this, and when I got to the provide a serial number part, I put in the only number anywhere, a long number that begins with PWW.  The system informed me that this was not a correct number and to try again.  I double-checked  the number and tried again, with the same result.  There is no other number on the disk jacket or the disk.

Not only that, but an image of a shield appeared and asked if I wanted to allow the program to make changes to my computer.  I clicked yes.  Not satisfied with that, it asked again and again.  Yes, yes, yes.  At that point I quit the program.

So now I have no program for accepting images into my system.  I am left with wondering if my system is fundamentally at odds with PS 5.5.  I run Windows 7 and I have Kaspersky as my anti-virus.  Is PS 5.5 now dead to me?  What's the next step?

Writers' Cafe / Amazon to Release New Tablet for $50
« on: September 08, 2015, 10:03:12 am »
I think I saw this on Captivate in the elevator while going up to my office.  Amazon will release a new 6" tablet for $50 sometime in the Fall.  The size and price caught my eye.  Does anyone have more details?  There is no link.

Writers' Cafe / I Don't Understand Amazon's Math
« on: September 02, 2015, 09:38:09 am »
A Robin Reads promotion yielded 53 sales at .99 cents each.  That's about fifty bucks, right?  With KENP pages, it came to $28.70.  I don't get it.  Are KENP pages supposed to lose money for you?  Huh?

Writers' Cafe / What's Wrong With My ASIN?
« on: August 19, 2015, 10:01:23 am »
Several times now I've had a book deal rejected because, they say, there's something wrong with my ASIN.  They don't say what.  I cut-and-paste the ASIN.  So it's coming from Amazon's mouth to their ear.  What is wrong with this ASIN: B00RCGCNIM ?  I'm losing reviews because of it.

Writers' Cafe / How Does AdSense Work For You?

Writers' Cafe / Here Is My Voucher, If I Had A Voucher
« on: July 08, 2015, 10:41:43 am »
I would like to know how I can sell my book, Hospital Days - A Memoir, at a discount to medical Personnel, doctors and nurses?

I am going into the hospital for minor surgery.  I've already established a rapport with many doctors and nurses.  I would be nice to hand them something.  CD Baby sells packs of cards you can give out.  The recipient goes to the site and puts in the code, and download a free copy of your CD.  I would be nice if Kindle had something similar.  That would be giving away the book.  I might be worth it to get a few reviews.

Writers' Cafe / Amazon Echo
« on: June 25, 2015, 11:58:22 am »
Anyone own one of these devices?  It's a cylinder about the size of a glass of lemonade that responds to your voice.  It does just about everything, including read your book.

Says Amazon:

"We are always adding new capabilities to Echo. Recently, we’ve added streaming music from Pandora, audiobooks from Audible, Google Calendar access, live sports scores and schedules, traffic reports, re-ordering, control of connected devices with WeMo and Philips Hue, and more"

Amazon Echo can read your book.  Can it also write your book?

I'd really like to know the answer to that question.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Denial Of Service Attack - Update
« on: June 16, 2015, 07:45:43 am »
My PC is under attack.  A few weeks ago it was Rollback Rx not being allowed to complete its rollback.  That denied me service to the entire computer.  I brought in an outside expert to solve that one.  Now, its a fake Outlook page that won't authenticate any certificate.  I cannot open Outlook.  MSN Outlook cannot open MSN's Outlook.  That is lethal to my online business.  Outlook is my main email.  Once again, I will need help in dealing with this persistent pest.

I have two questions.  One, how does one get law enforcement  involved?  Are there online detectives?  This should be a matter for the FBI since it involves  interstate commerce.  But in New York City the FBI is busy with Homeland Security and I doubt that they would listen me.

And two, can you successfully operate your online business from a tablet or smart phone, or similar device?  Can you open your email with it?  I'm guessing yes.  In other words, can you have what amounts to a second computer that can keep you going even after your main pc is compromised?

Writers' Cafe / Short Works That Have Cast A Long Shadow...

Maybe there was a thread about this lately?

Writers' Cafe / Has Anyone Heard From Choosybookworm Lately?
« on: February 28, 2015, 08:33:59 am »
On February 16 I signed up for the standard review package ($80) at Choosybookworm.  I know that from the receipt from PayPal.  Nothing happened.  I did not hear from Kevin Lee Nunn aka Jay Lee, owner of the site; so on Sunday the 22nd I sent an email to the info address on the PP receipt.  I have heard nothing from Mr. Nunn or anyone associated with his company.  The only contact information he lists on his site is a postal address in Germany.  So, am I screwed?

Writers' Cafe / BooK Expo America
« on: February 03, 2015, 12:39:29 pm »
Follow the link to the corporate site of the largest such expo in America.  You will be able to present e-books (not certain how) as well as paper books at the Javits Center on the extreme West Side in Manhattan, in May.  As I wrote of the Jacob Javits Center years ago: "You could roll a bowling ball from one side toward the other, and it would come to rest before striking the far wall."

Anyway, if you enjoy being in the company of all kinds of book pushers and lovers, this is the place to be.  Minimum $299 to promote one paper or e-book.
