Fire Talk / problems with Dolphin
« on: June 05, 2013, 05:20:06 am »
Has anybody else had problems lately with Dolphin?  Starting Monday, I realized it was not keeping track of logins to places like Kindleboards, where I've checked the box that says "stay logged in forever".  Believe me, it was a hassle trying to remember some of those passwords!

So I updated to the latest version of Dolphin, but it's still happening. I checked all the settings I could find, but I didn't see anything that would help. So frustrating!  It is also crashing a lot more than usual.  Silk crashed all the time too, so I'd rather not go back to using that, but at least it remembers my login info.

I sent an email to Yahoo about this but I haven't heard back yet and thought I'd see if anyone here is suddenly having this issue too.

Starting this morning I cannot send emails with my Yahoo accounts on my Kindle (I use the native email app on the Kindle). I can receive Yahoo emails but not send them. I can send and receive Yahoo emails from other devices. I can send and receive emails on the Kindle using my gmail account.

I reset the modem. I powered off the Kindle and tried again. Nothing worked so I deleted the two ymail accounts to start over. Now, I can't even add my accounts back on my Kindle! I get an error saying "unable to safely connect to the server".

Any suggestions, other than wait for help from Yahoo?

Fire Talk / Folders for bookmarks in the Sik browser?
« on: December 29, 2012, 06:12:19 pm »
Hi! Me again with another question. I tried to search for the answer here first but couldn't find it.

Can I organize my browser bookmarks into folders?

Fire Talk / Typing on the Fire
« on: December 25, 2012, 07:16:58 pm »
I got my Fire a couple weeks ago and I am getting used to how everything works. One thing that is still difficult is typing. I have never made so many typos in my life. In particular I don't seem to be able to hit the spacebar quite right every time. And having typed on an iphone for past several years, I am learning not to compare the typing experience for each device (for example, double clicking the spacebar on the iphone adds a period, space and capitalizes the next letter; I miss that).

But one big issue I have is the punctuation. It seems the Fire adds a space after every punctuation. In some cases it is helpful. But not when using an apostrophe. I have to go back any manually fix every contraction I type and it is a pain.

I suppose I am just venting, not sure if there is a fix for this. But in case there is a way around it, I would appreciate any advice.

Kindle Accessories / Kindle Fire HD 7" case question

Does anyone know if an Oberon cover for the old K2 will fit the Fire HD 7"?

Cover / Case reviews / i-Blason cover for Fire HD 8.9
« on: December 18, 2012, 08:30:51 pm »
I got this case today and didn't see any reviews for it so I thought I would post something for those who are cover-shopping like I have been doing for the last week.

This cover seems very well made and sturdy. It stands at two different positions, but only horizontally. I feel the Kindle is pretty sturdy while it's standing.

There is a pen loop on the outside for a stylus (the case comes with a pen but they call it a stylus; no, it's a pen). I removed the pen right away because not only is it unnecessary it's in the way. I thought the loop would annoy me but I don't even notice it. In fact, despite it being shown as black in the picture it's actually the same color as the case.

I got this in purple and it is bright, vibrant and gorgeous. I don't know if it's real leather but considering it only costs $19.99, I doubt it. But it's very pretty.

There is not a strap to keep it closed but it does have a magnetic closure which is pretty good. Also, the Kindle sleeps when the case is closed and wakes when it's opened.

I cannot think of any negatives for this case. At twenty bucks you really can't go wrong. I have no plans on replacing this case with something pricier.

Here is a link, hopefully I am doing it correctly.

Fire Talk / Fire HD 8.9" charger
« on: December 10, 2012, 01:55:32 pm »
Hey folks! On a whim I purchased the Fire HD 8.9 today. I had been wanting an iPad but after comparing specs (and with today's $50 off promo) I decided on the Fire instead.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've tried to read the info on Amazon as well as the reviews, and the threads here, and I cannot figure out whether I need to purchase a charger. I get the impression it comes with a USB cable but that you have to supply the actual thing that connects from the cable to the wall outlet. Is that correct?

If so, can I use the one that came with my old K2? The cable for the K2 is shot but the plug thing still seems fine.

Is this normal for electronic devices lately? I'll admit it's been about 2 years since I've bought anything new like this, so I'm a little behind the times. :-)

Kindle Accessories / New Borsa Bella fabrics?
« on: October 13, 2010, 09:36:02 am »
Maybe I just missed them earlier, but there appear to be several new fabrics available for the e-reader travel bags on Borsa Bella's website. I particularly like this one: (sorry, wish I knew how to just add the image instead of the whole link). It's a little busy but it's very intriguing. I may have to start saving my pennies. :)

Archives / SOLD: Borsa Bella original e-reader bag in Black Beauty $12
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:17:07 pm »
This bag fits a naked Kindle only (K2 for sure, I don't know about the K1). I got a cover and can't use this anymore. I've had it for about a year but it shows little wear. Non-smoking home. The zipper is on the short edge, there is a cross-body strap as well as a wristlet strap. $12 includes shipping, Paypal or Amazon gift card.

Archives / SOLD: M-edge Latitude cover in red for K2 $15
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:12:29 pm »
Selling hubby's M-edge Latitude cover because he bought an Oberon from someone here on KB. It is in pretty good shape, but shows a little wear. Non-smoking home. There seemed to be a stain on the back of the cover (third picture) but I couldn't get it to show up in the picture, and I really couldn't even quite see it at certain angles. May have been a shadow. $15 includes shipping, Paypal or Amazon gift card.

Archives / SOLD: Borsa Bella Let's Do Lunch purse in Laceworks $30
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:05:08 pm »
I bought this purse a couple months ago and I really love it. However, I can't get used to using a purse that doesn't have a long cross-body strap, so I thought I'd sell it to another Borsa Bella fan here on KB. Smoke-free home. Asking $30, includes shipping, either Paypal or Amazon gift-card. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you need better pictures. The second picture is of my husband's Oberon case inside the purse so you can get a feel for how big it is. There are three inner pockets (none with zippers) and a key-fob clip inside.

Edited to add: I don't know why the second picture is so giant. I always have a problem using Photobucket. Sorry. :(

Not Quite Kindle / Follow the Car: Penguin Publisher event
« on: May 27, 2010, 06:16:03 pm »

This looks pretty cool. Penguin is driving across the country to promote literacy and will meet with several authors in different cities who will sign the car. At each stop they will donate books to a local literacy group, and at the end they will auction the car for charity.

Because I am a fan of MINI Coopers, it caught my eye. :)

Let's Talk Kindle! / Amazon to open stores in London?

While not technically a Kindle-related article, one wonders if maybe Amazon will soon be selling Kindles in actual stores if this really happens.

The KBoards Photo Gallery / Finally dressed my Kindle!
« on: October 24, 2009, 02:33:21 pm »
It took forever but I finally decided on what to use to protect my Kindle.  I decided on a skin from DecalGirl (Pink Tranquility) and a small K2 bag from BorsaBella (Black Beauty).  I'm pleased with my decision.  As much as I love some of the covers available, I decided I liked holding the Kindle without a cover.

Here's Charlie (she's a girl, by the way):

PS:  Sorry the pics are so huge, I will try to fix that.  And that's my iPhone with the K2 and the bag.  :)

Let's Talk Kindle! / Does your Kindle have a name? - COMBINED thread
« on: October 21, 2009, 06:55:33 am »
Okay, this has probably been done before but I searched and couldn't find a thread.  Feel free to move this and slap me on the hand if it exists somewhere else.   ;)

My Kindle is named Charlie, but she's a girl.  I was trying to come up with a name and thought about the word kindle, which means to start a fire.  One of the first "adult" books I read as a kid was Firestarter by Stephen King and I fell in love with it, and subsequently became a lifelong SK fan and a huge reader of pretty much anything.  So I named my Kindle after the little girl who is the main character in that story, because that book helped to "kindle" my love of reading.

Your story?

Introductions & Welcomes / New to the boards and to the Kindle
« on: October 15, 2009, 03:09:50 pm »
Hey folks!  I just got my Kindle today and my husband got one too.  I'm thrilled with it so far!  I am so happy to have found a forum to get some tips and tricks as well as book recommendations.  This is wonderful!

I can't believe people name their Kindles!  That sound exactly like something I would do.  I have named my Roomba and my MINI Cooper, so I'm sure I'll be as crazy about my Kindle and personalize it as well.  I will probably want to get a cover (I'm already drooling over the ones they sell on Oberon...) and possibly a skin.

Thanks for listening!  Can't wait to get back to reading.   :)
