Writers' Cafe / Anne Rice post this morning - Tips for Writers
« on: January 10, 2014, 01:42:40 pm »
Something for a little inspiration today, Anne Rice just posted this link on Facebook with the words:

There are no rules for all writers. If any of the advice in this article doesn't work for you, disregard it. That's my advice to new writers, including the advice here given by me.

Writers' Cafe / 10,000 sales milestone!
« on: January 04, 2014, 07:24:15 pm »
I never thought I would be posting this, but today I hit 10,000 paid sales. When I published my first book, just under a year ago I thought I might sell a few copies. I found this place, and took on board what others were saying and just kept on writing.

Erotic romance was fun to write, and I did all right for myself. Then, I came up with a story that meant a lot to me personally and wrote it. It was a bit of a change in direction, and I put it out there expecting again that maybe I would sell a few copies.  Another Chance started selling on day one and hasn't stopped, selling over 5,000 copies since the 23rd of November. This has just been staggering. It sold best on Amazon US and UK and then out of nowhere Apple picked up, resulting in my book hitting number one on the Australian store on the 28th of December and staying there until the 1st of January.

You know that thread about dealing with insecurities? Well, that's been me this past week watching my book sitting between James Patterson and Robert  Ludlum/Eric Lustbader. I have just been looking at it thinking how much I don't belong. lol  I hadn't told many people I know that I was writing in the first place, so I don't know what my mother thought when I called to tell her.  :D

Anyway, what I wanted to say was that there are threads about whether writing more books is the answer or not. I don't know if it is the answer, but what I can say is that particularly on Apple if you've got a breakout book, people will go looking for whatever else you've done.  Sales for everything else I've done have gone up too. So all that writing has been worth it. And just be ready, because it could happen at any time, even when you least expect it!

Moving forward, I'll be looking to find an editor I can work with regularly rather than the mix of things I've done so far with very little budget. Even a whole lot of eyes can miss things. Other than that it'll be working on whatever comes up next.  :) For now I have to go to the mum things and clean up after my 2 year old.

Writers' Cafe / My freakout moment tonight
« on: December 28, 2013, 03:00:56 am »
Today I turned 40, and spent a chunk of my birthday watching the Australian iTunes store where I started selling a couple of days ago in much bigger volumes than normal.  It's nearly midnight, and after my book sat at number two on the store all day it's just moved to number one.

I am tired, and have had a few drinks, but this is the best birthday present I could have asked for and I think I'm going to go back to celebrating. :)

Writers' Cafe / Milestones
« on: December 01, 2013, 02:21:03 pm »
Last night I was really excited to realise that November was the first month that I topped $1000 in royalties. I'm also closing in on 5000 paid sales since the end of January this year.

This forum has meant a lot to me in this time. The support that everyone shows each other, and the depth of information to be found has been invaluable. I've never been very self confident, but knowing other people are in the same boat as me helps a lot. So, thanks! You're all awesome.  :)

Writers' Cafe / Contacted by a reader for the first time
« on: November 26, 2013, 09:27:51 am »
I am a bit overwhelmed this morning as I just recently published a new book. It's a change in direction for me, and I cried like a baby while writing it because it is a very emotional book.

This morning I got this amazing message from a reader, to tell me she cried while reading it, which characters she liked and an idea for a novella for some of the minor characters. I have been sitting here crying from reading her message, and I love that my writing did that for her.

I just had to share while I try to get my act together to get my children out of bed and ready for school and daycare. It's not looking good. :D

Writers' Cafe / All Romance Bestseller List
« on: August 02, 2013, 01:40:58 pm »
I just wanted to share my little bit of excitement for the day. I released my latest around a week ago (last image in my sig) and ARe picked it up on Wednesday, featuring it in their Hump Day specials. They told me it was because they thought it was a bargain and they loved the cover.  Sales picked up and this morning I received an email to say that it's in their bestseller list.  It's at 49 now but that has generated more sales today (I think!).  One more little achievement to cross off the list and a boost to my day.  :D

Writers' Cafe / My Summer Daniels is awesome thread
« on: July 19, 2013, 12:06:17 am »
I have been in bed with the most awful flu ever and had put my books on special for 99c prior to my coming new release but not done much because I've been so sick.

Woke up this morning to a whole bunch of sales and found a post on the What to read after Fifty (50) Shades of Grey FB page. Very uplifting to see but now I'm going back to bed to try to shake this off.

In the meantime, for the record this was the highest Hot For The Boss Complete Edition got today.
