Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Right page turn button
« on: November 10, 2014, 11:59:45 am »
Just got off the phone with Kindle CS.   Started reading a new book - and the right page turn button (long line) made the book go back a page.   :(   Left button works  fine.   They had me restart the Voyage (holding power button down 20 secs) - and now its ok - but I'm wondering if it is hardware.  If it starts again - I will  ask for a replacement.

Just saw this on Facebook:

Interesting.. I guess, for me,  it would depend on the titles.  I don't use audiobooks so that isn't a plus.

The Book Corner / Mitch Rapp lives on!
« on: June 23, 2014, 12:31:00 pm »
Very exciting news..    :D   I don't know anything about Kyle Mills but I'm hoping he carries on....

"MINNEAPOLIS Best-selling author Vince Flynn died just over a year ago, but his terrorist-fighting protagonist Mitch Rapp will live on in new books written by someone else, Flynn's publisher says.

Simon & Schuster and Flynn's estate have commissioned thriller writer Kyle Mills to complete Flynn's unfinished novel, "The Survivor," and to write two more books in the Rapp series. "The Survivor" is tentatively scheduled to hit shelves next year."

Let's Talk Kindle! / Prime bumped to $99
« on: March 13, 2014, 05:40:26 am »
Just got my letter.. My prime renews early May - and it will go up to $99.   Its still worth it to me since I buy so much from Amazon now - OTC RX,  Pet Supplies,  cosmetics,  food.   I can get it sooner than when I find the time to go to the grocery store.   I'm also using Amazon Instant Videos with my Roku.    And - I can't wait to try a drone!   ;D

I read on Facebook today that the producers of Hunger Games have picked up the rights to make a movie of Robert Crais' Suspect with Maggie - the dog with PTSD..   Very cool!   8)

The Book Corner / Harvest Home and Tom Tryon and Kindle!
« on: December 03, 2013, 06:56:39 am »
Oh my... I have not been paying close attention..  :o  Just noticed that Tom Tryon's Harvest Home and The Other are both Kindlized..  These are the
only books I have bought in paperback since buying my first Kindle since I didn't want to ever lose them.

If you haven't read Harvest Home - it is right up there with any of Stephen King's novels (in my opinion)...  This is a book that kept me up
at night..

Life is good..

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Back arrow on PW2
« on: October 05, 2013, 05:00:07 am »
I have a question about the back arrow on my PW2.   Sometimes - while I am reading, if I go HOME to do something and then hit the back arrow it takes me to the TOC of the book with the current chapter at the top of the page.   :-[ Sometimes it goes back to where I was reading (where I wanted it to go).  Do I have some setting on that drives this?  Kinda irritating..

The Book Corner / Vince Flynn passes away from cancer at age 47
« on: June 19, 2013, 11:56:16 am »
My favorite author - Vince Flynn passed today from prostrate cancer.  :-[  I'm so unhappy about it.  Such a young author with such a talent for writing.   Mitch Rapp passed today too.

Kindle Accessories / Using skin to cover inside of Amazon PW cover
« on: April 23, 2013, 05:23:45 pm »
I decided I really wanted a smoother front  cover to my pink  Amazon PW cover - so  I could hold it more comfortably with the front
folded back.

Since the  PW fits so snug in the case - I really didn't need to put the Decal Girl skin on its  back.. so I was able to use the back
skin on the Amazon inside cover.

Just love it!   ;D  And the  skin is small enough to not cover the magnet.

The pattern is "Flashback"

The Book Corner / Deal on Robert Crais!
« on: April 22, 2013, 03:57:06 pm »
Just  saw this  on Facebook:   ;D

Kindle people! Amazon U.S. will be offering THE WATCHMAN as a "daily deal" on April 29 for only $1.99! This will be a one-day-only price, and only available through Amazon U.S. for the Kindle. (My apologies to readers elsewhere on the planet, as well as readers who use Nook and other platforms, but this is Amazon's offer and Amazon's rules. If it were up to me, I'd make the offer to everyone!!) So if you're in the US and you rock a Kindle, 4/29 is the day to score a cheap ebook of THE WATCHMAN!

Just made myself comfy to dig into a Brad Thor book -  and there was some flashing and my PW started to reboot  >:(.   When it was done  - I  was Home - and when  I  reopened the book  - I was at the beginning again.  Very strange.  Anyone have that  happen?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Second Time Around!
« on: April 16, 2013, 04:01:06 pm »
Just got my AARP discounted Paperwhite..  My second try!

They sure are doing better with QA on the screens.  This one is flawless  :-* - I can barely see the lights at the bottom.

Took awhile to get my collections imported  (my gazillion collections  ;D - had to move some books into them manually but not many.

So far I really like using the stylus - it compensates for my fat fingers and I think I will like it for reading too.

Still don't like the inside of the Amazon cover   :( but then I always ordered my Oberons without felt.. I may try to cover it so I can hold it folded back.

So far so good.. I do love the screen.. but what I don't understand is how some of you read with the light so low.  I have mine about 15 - don't think I would like the screen much greyer than that..

Not Quite Kindle / The Following and Kevin Bacon
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:40:40 pm »
Is anyone watching the new Kevin Bacon series on Fox - the Following?   I really like it.. very gory - but reminds me of many of the books I've read..  Interesting premise - a serial killer that imitates the violence in Edgar Allan Poe novels..   My only question - is how can they drag this out into an entire season - let alone multiple seasons.   Bacon is terrific!

Not Quite Kindle / Westminster child was dismembered..
« on: October 12, 2012, 04:56:50 pm »
Please say a prayer for my community, the family, and the little girl who was abducted and then dismembered.   There is a monster out there who has not been caught.   She lived about 10 minutes from me.   Please God - take care of the children...

Archives / SOLD: Orchid Hummingbird Oberon Cover for PW - no felt
« on: October 12, 2012, 03:38:36 pm »
I have decided to sell my new Orchid Hummingbird Oberon Cover for the PW since I decided to return the PW.  I know - I should have waited but I REALLY wanted to like the PW.  Think I will use the money to buy one for my K3.

This cover does NOT have felt in the inside cover.. I never liked the feel.  It has a rose charm per the photo.

I prefer Amazon Giftcard.. and want $60 which includes shipping within the US mainland.  PM me if interested

Selling three Oberon covers for a K3 -   Green Paisley, Saddle Celtic, Saddle DaVinci - all without the felt on the  inside cover and gently used.  Charms are attached to the bungee closure.

I may return the PW - so have decided to wait longer before I sell my K3 oberons.

On my K3 - I could either add items to a collection by first selecting the collection and then choosing the items... or else I could choose a book and then - in its menu - move it into a collection.

I cannot find a way to choose a book on my PW and add it to a collection.  I can choose a collection and add items.. but then I need to page all the way thru my long list of books to add it.

Has anyone done this?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Deregistering behavior on PW?
« on: October 04, 2012, 10:42:02 am »
Has anyone found out if deregistering from an account - deletes the books that you had downloaded from that account from the PW?

I had heard that this behavior - which does not happen on the K3 - might happen with the PW.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Should I? Shouldn't I?
« on: September 12, 2012, 03:24:58 pm »
I am going thru the next "stage" of ordering the PaperWhite.   I am thinking about cancelling my order and just buying an Amazon Cover with Light for my K3 on ebay (the only place they still sell them).   I just really do not like "Touch".  I hate my cell phone.  I have turned off that little "pad" on my laptop.

And while I don't use it much,  I think I will want the TTS back - and the extra memory.

And the PW battery life with the light on is not that great.

I'm going to download the new K3 software update soon to see how much better it is.

And the thought of downloading all my books - one at a time - doesn't make me happy.

Haven't cancelled yet - but I'm seriously thinking about it.  I think a lot will depend on how much difference I see on the K3 with the software update.

The Book Corner / Lord Peter Wimsey for Kindle!
« on: August 15, 2012, 07:54:42 am »
Maybe I just hadn't noticed them before - but thinking about PBS and my favorite series - I noticed that the individual Lord Peter Wimsey books by Dorothy Sayers are available for Kindle!

Looks like some have been available for awhile but there are a lot of them published at the end of last month.  Very cool!

Check out:

Love these books!
